Do you have a song that always makes you cry, and why?

For me it's "Bring Him Home", by Josh Groban, also Les Miserables. I will always attribute this beautiful song, with my beautiful and talented friend, who lost his life, tragically in a car crash in 2018. I miss him so much, he was too young to be taken away. His mother played this song during his funeral service, and every time I hear it, I'm reduced to tears.

I have various that'll make my eyes sting. As to why, it's rather hard to say. I guess they just hit a nerve (in a good way, that is).
Here are a few:

- Walking in the Air by Nightwish (cover). A perfect example of a cover being better than the original, in my humble opinion of course :)
- Enter One by Sol Seppy. I stumbled across this beauty as it was played in an episode of Final Space. It was a rather dark scene, so this song fits perfectly.
- Parisienne Moonlight by Anathema. A rather nice instrumental piece that's far too short.
- Hello by Evanescence. This is a case of a beautiful song, and lyrics hitting home.

No, let's say my playlists aren't made of "songs that make you cry" eheh
But I can think of other medias that do, such as the movie Hatchi, it always get me.

Haven't seen that one?

There are tons of songs of mine that are tearjerking, like:
Way Down We Go - Kaleo
Hometown - 21 Pilots
We Go Down Together - Khalid & Dove Cameron
That’s all on my mind

21 Guns by Green Day comes to mind but it makes me more mad than sad. I guess it has to do with just thinking of all the young men and women lost in war and hoping their death was worth it. Also Air in a G String by Bach comes to mind. It wasn’t a sad song for me till after 9/11 when they played it as part of the memorial service and that setting just struck a chord for how I’d feel about it. I think of the many lives lost. Sorry probably getting too deep here

Mike and the Mechanics, The living Years. Its sums up my relationship with my father. Thankfully I have a far better one with my sons.

Lyrics

Every generation
Blames the one before
And all of their frustrations
Come beating on your door
I know that I'm a prisoner
To all my Father held so dear
I know that I'm a hostage
To all his hopes and fears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years
Oh, crumpled bits of paper
Filled with imperfect thought
Stilted conversations
I'm afraid that's all we've got
You say you just don't see it
He says it's perfect sense
You just can't get agreement
In this present tense
We all talk a different language
Talking in defence
Say it loud (say it loud), say it clear (oh say it clear)
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late (it's too late) when we die (oh when we die)
To admit we don't see eye to eye
So we open up a quarrel
Between the present and the past
We only sacrifice the future
It's the bitterness that lasts
So don't yield to the fortunes
You sometimes see as fate
It may have a new perspective
On a different day
And if you don't give up, and don't give in
You may just be okay
So say it loud, say it clear (oh say it clear)
You can listen as well as you hear
Because it's too late, it's too late (it's too late)
When we die (oh, when we die)
To admit we don't see eye to eye
I wasn't there that morning
When my Father passed away
I didn't get to tell him
All the things I had to say
I think I caught his spirit
Later that same year
I'm sure I heard his echo
In my baby's new born tears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years
Say it loud, say it clear (oh say it clear)
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late (it's too late) when we die (it's too late when we die)
To admit we don't see eye to eye
So say it, say it, say it loud (say it loud)
Say it clear (come on say it clear)
Say it loud
(Don't give up, don't give in and don't look away 'til it's too late)
Say it clear
Say it loud (say it loud, say it loud)

No songs, but apparently when I was a baby, police sirens made me cry. There’s even a picture of me sitting on Mom’s lap crying, and she said that Dad was making a police siren sound when he took it. Mean, right? Years later, when my uncle was visiting, he joked that I’d probably been a criminal fleeing from police when my previous life had come to an end. He told me not to feel bad though, because he hated turtleneck shirts and sweaters, which obviously meant he’d been executed by hanging in a previous life. These are the sorts of things that were joked about at the dinner table when I was a kid.

Who wants to live forever by Queen. Both the way the music swells and the topic of the lyrics make me cry ever single time I hear it.

I'm a big Mike & the Mechanic s fan. When I saw Paul Carrick in concert in Norwich back in 2010, apart from his solo songs, he also performed this one.

"Nightswimming" by REM. The song is about yearning for the past and happier times. ("These things they go away, replaced by everyday "). The clarinet solo at the end of the song always gets me and makes me sob.

For me it's "I don't want to say goodbye" from Pokémon mystery dungeon explorer's of time/sky/darkness that scene was really sad for me when I first saw it and the music was 90% of the factor it still makes me tear up.

Wind Beneath My Wings by Bet Midler.

When my mother was in the hospital and dying, she INSISTED that I travel to NYC to attend a Dead show that I had tickets for and that she would hold on until I returned home to her bedside. I was sitting in a deli with my niece when “Wings” started playing on the deli sound system and I totally lost it!!
