Could diapers become trendy and norm?

While anything is possible, I don't see adult diapers becoming an actual trend within my life time. It is true our general acceptance and understanding has grown in the last decade or two, but that has been a slow process. As mentioned, I believe that acceptance is closely akin to the lgbtq movement. Seperating out the sexual aspect and focusing on this is who we are is what has helped us to this point. However, society (and even us ourselves) have much further to understand before we will ever go main stream, let alone trend setting.

From a practicality standpoint, in limited situations, they already have. It's now common knowledge that many people standing and waiting for the ball drop in NYC were wearing diapers, how else would they keep their spot for 12 hours or so without leaving to find a bathroom?

From a fashion or "cool" perspective... exceptionally unlikely. Not only is there the stigma "diapers are for babies and old people", but there's also the fact that it's dealing with human waste, which rightly so is a big NO for most people out there. You never know what's going to happen in the future, though.

Could the market (depends, rearz, ABU, Crinklz....) expand a wee bit and target more audience?

- City bus driver? Don't be late! Be dry and on time with ABU city skyline prints!
- Going to a concert? Join the crowd, have that beer, and enjoy the show with rearz rebel diapers!
- Going to the casino and don't want to lose your machine? Stay seated and win big with a lucky pair of ABU Tolls.
- Going on a road trip? Feel relieved and worry free with rearz road trip pattern diapers!
- Going to the movies? Enjoy that coke and watch the movie without worrying about "excuse me, excuse me, excuse me"; or maybe you just want a cozy night at home on the couch with your favourite blanket and PJs... then you need crinklz quiet movie time diapers!
- Long commute in car or transit? Stop worrying with the discrete line of Depends Commuters (obviously they would have a cool patterns, or be solid colour)
- Tired of getting out of bed just to pee once or twice? Get super comfortable, stay super dry, and strap on rearzzzzzzz sleepy time line of cool and trendy diapers.

Or even deeper...

- Embrace your inner child and spend the afternoon wearing rearz safari diapers
- Girls night? Look pretty in pink or rebellious with rearz!
- Child regressing? It's a phase many boys go through. Spoil them with Classico Baby Diapers

etc... etc.. etc...

Maybe add in some polls and facts to push things along...

(the following are just made up numbers; might a bit biased :D )

We asked 1000 people to wear a diaper for the day and night.

- 98% felt dry after wetting
- 78% people felt immediate stress relief and/or happiness after putting on the diaper
- 58% considered it more comfortable than underwear
- 65% enjoyed wetting themselves
- 75% would wear one again

I'm not the best when it comes to writing out what I'm thinking... but I really believe a good handful of people will gladly wear a diaper more often if some business started creating a scene, and diapers started to appear to be cool and more normal to wear.

Honestly, I don’t think diapers becoming commonplace in society will ever happen. Don’t get me wrong, it’s less of a taboo thing nowadays, especially when you see ads for stuff like Depends that basically say it’s okay to wear them, but that’s coming from a medical standpoint, a need more than a want. And yes, we do have a lot of cases where children are potty training later than they used to for a number of different reasons, but I wouldn’t expect that to spawn a shift in the way society views diapers.

I will say this, though. I think there is a better shot of diapers becoming more acceptable in society as opposed to becoming fashionable and trendy as well, but even then, I wouldn’t get my hopes up for anything.

There is more openness to wearing diapers now, but it wil never be a "norm" I guess.

I don't think we can go too much further on the front of Diapers being acceptable for medical needs; I just think its insane how people think it is so wrong to just like diapers.

I think that comes from the commonly used approach by parents to associate Diapers with Babies and not being considered "Big" if you wear diapers, and parents may often go as far as to say that Diapers are "Nasty" or "gross" ; so you end up with the majority of the population being ingrained with these same ideas.

I think Diapers are often a more hygienic route than public toilets, I mean have you seen how nasty public toilets can be?

I think Diapering is Akin to Showering, if you do it often enough and thoroughly enough it isn't dirty at all, but if you slack off, that is where being dirty and smelly comes in; same with public restrooms too, if someone isn't cleaning them often they soon start to look filthy and smell to high heavens (like Port O Potties).

I did read an article in Japan by 2020 adults will require more diapers than their baby counterparts. Just because of the aging family are living longer.

They will never be considered as part of the norm. DIAPERS are for BABIES and people with DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES! Others need not apply! That's how society is! Deal with it!

You are fantastic in writing what you think! This is exactly what we need to make it more acceptable in society.
https://www.healthwick.ca/ is great when they say "Sleep through the night, worry-free" That is exactly why I wear diapers at night!
Thank you for your great input here!

Except we all know this way of thinking is outdated and is completely wrong. Society is and has been coming to terms that even adults who are otherwise healthy sometimes need to use a diaper too. Deal with that.

Sure it's outdated. But that's the way a lot of people still feel.

Well, AFAIK Japan is #2 when it comes to longest life expectancy at 90 years old, so of course you would expect a lot more of the population to be in diapers due to health issues related to being old, I would imagine needing diapers at an old age is probably one of the easier things to deal with, especially if you have worked hard your whole life.

I remember reading something a while back that a lot of young professional people are using them in Japan in order to keep working and not have to stop what they are doing!

I don't think diapers will ever become 'fashionable' though. Especially as we are becoming more and more environmentally conscious. If plastic straws and plastic bags are out, I can't see society embracing disposable diapers! The environmental aspect is actually my only source of guilt about being a DL, and I wish I could switch to cloth but it just doesn't appeal at all.

The long life-expectency is one thing, and the other problem is couples aren't having more than one kid very often. As a result, the population is classified as "upside-down", meaning there's more people dying than being born, leading to a decline in the population. This is causing a problem with their elderly society, since they've got a strong cultural inclination to take care of their elderly but they don't have enough youth to DO the job. This is a problem they've seen coming for some time and have been trying to start adapting to, but it's a hard problem to find solutions for.

Strangely enough, China's taking a totally different path that's going to lead them to about the same place. The government is (legally and socially) encouraging people to only have one or two kids, and that's in a culture where having a male heir is very important to them - businesses "are supposed to" be run by the men of the family. The result is a "suspiciously high" female infantile mortality rate. (some couples that discover the wife is pregnant with a girl will contemplate ways to "get a second chance" at having a boy as their one child, rather than trying for a second or third chid, and with it the government sanctions that will bring them) It was already a problem, and the new rules and pressures have made it skyrocket because it's considered more socially acceptable due to their already existing history with it. The result is they have a lot of young men that simply can't find a wife due to low supply. They're going to have at least a few generations of elderly with few youth to take care of them here starting around 2040. (it's already becoming common for families to Adopt adult men to fill a vacancy in their aging family groups that haven't managed to produce enough heirs to head and run family businesses)

Shure us baby Boomer's are getting diaper age if not now soon

While the aging population will change things somewhat, most of them will hate it and would never go for the "fun" diapers. While those of us in the ABDL community would largely be so completely thrilled with adult sized Pampers, those who are not would never cozy to it.

Our fetish/lifestyle/orientation (what ever you want to call it) is a niche. I think thst's fine honestly. Never big enough for Wal-Mart to carry Rearz. Though I would like to see more acceptance.

LOL, yeah right.

It is a possibility, while a low possibility, it could happen. The disposable diaper wasn't invented until the 1950s and they've forever been improving. If they were still cloth I doubt as many people would enjoy it and it would never catch on. Now they have diapers that hold more and adult diapers hold 5000ml, some may hold more. As someone previously mentioned people in Japan wear them to work and in places like Vegas people play on slot machines wearing them so they don't have to leave to go to the bathroom. More and more people are signing up to this site and I'm seeing people more and more on the Internet saying they're ABDL and there's a lot more recognition in mainstream media. The main stigma is parents will tell their children "diapers are for babies" and we're talking about human waste which is often associated with disease. Also so many people that don't understand ABDL or DDLG perceive us as paedophiles and whatnot.
