1 Timothy 6:10 "For the love of money is the root of all evil".

I have always been a believer of this. But people miss quote it all the time and say "money is the root of all evil". But its not the money in its self that is evi; but when you love it enough to put making it, steeling it or acquiring it above what is truly important is when it is evil.

I find that people who use the misquote are rather hypocritical to quote it. They certainly have much more money than I do. But I have money enough, always make ends meet...and accomplish my goals. And I never wish or ask for more than I get every month. "I'm alive and doin' fine!" 🥳

I am on a fixed income due to my health but I was lucky enough to have made good money when I worked and paid my house off in 12 years. I don't even have a car payment now. I feel really blessed because even though I have a limited income compared to what I use to make I still have a comfortable life. I could not imagine being on SSD and having a $800 a month house payment, So I feel god has blessed me. My house is nothing fancy 3 bedroom 1 bath brick home but its mine. I personally know a few millionaires in my life and none of them seam to have a clear conscience. They had to put money first to get where they are. But I too was guilty once when I was driving I was never home and kept telling myself I am working like this to provide for my family. But the truth was I wanted to be able to buy things for my kid I never had. Then I realized all the toys in the world wont make up for me being gone all the time. That's when I stopped driving all over the country and took local work,

I suppose there's a great deal of truth to that one: growing up from the cradle to adult life, I learned by observation that when it comes to relationships and all within, it's Ladies' Choice: the guy has no say on whether a relationship beyond friendship exists between two people, it's all the female. Is there an intimate bond? It's because the female wants it and says/shows so. Sex? The woman initiates it, it's her body being intruded by contact & penetration. Another guy tries to muscle in? It's not up to the woman's male...it's up to her. And her male defends accordingly to her say-so.

It's not that social contract that bothers me in regard to relationships; it's the manipulation and even lying I detest that can happen. My marriage of 13-1/2 years was not because of my efforts to keep it; it was my denial of that fact that over the long haul, I married a manipulator, a sexual cheater, a budding felon and a liar. She left...but I filed after she demanded reconciliation on her exclusive, draconian terms, hiding behind the kids all the while. It did hurt my kids some but all in all, I can only imagine the eventual, greater harm resulting from a bad reconciliation.

I don't miss having a partner; I look upon a relationship as a potential partner feeling deprived, in my instance, because of my passion for doing the things I love and the love I give my kids & grandkids. I won't subject a partner to feeling that excluded. To that end, I'll gladly take friends...but nothing more.

Sorry if I rambled a bit.

Post 'em here!

I won't use the quotes I already use in my profile or in my signature so it comes down to fresh material. Lemme kick it off...

"The only time a woman succeeds at changing a man is when he is a baby." --Natalie Wood. Guess that's why Robert Wagner bumped her off the boat? (j/k) 🤭 Anyhoo, it's a perfect quote for our genre-ation. 👈🤭

An extremely favorite character of mine is from the Jurassic Park empire: Dr. Ian Malcolm...what an amazingly-profound guy! As a chaos-theory specialist, he wasn't religious but he did touch upon theology & morality a time or two as expression in a few of his quotes:
  • "Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
  • "Don't you see the danger, John, inherent in what you're doing here? Genetic power is the most awesome force the planet's ever seen, but you wield it like a kid that's found his dad's gun."
  • "God creates dinosaurs, God destroys dinosaurs. God creates man, man destroys God. Man creates dinosaurs..."
  • ...and the most-profound 4-word quote I've yet seen: "Life finds a way".
So now, I'm curious: did Ian Malcolm's genius come from a Character-Development Team comprising 35 quasi-intellectuals on something infinitely more powerful than Sanka...or did the script-writer randomly throw a loaded typewriter into a tornado and it came up with that? 🤔

Finally...Anissa Jones, the girl who played "Buffy" (no, not the 'vampire-slayer') in Family Affair (1966-1971). I was 27 months old when I first saw her on TV...and fell in instant love with her. I wanted a snuggle or a hug from her so badly! She made curly pigtails my all-time fav girls' hairstyle! So adorable...anyway, when on a TV talk show, while still little, she was being interviewed and came up with this utterly-golden gem:
  • "I can read...except for a very big word we sometimes have. Like the word 'philosopher'. Do you know what a philosopher is? Well...it's a man that thinks a lot, but doesn't do anything much about it." 🤣🤣🤣
So...there's my contribution. Got any good ones?
I love all those quotes and Jurassic Park (both the book and the movie) Ian Malcolm is so cool!

“Don’t spit in the soup, we all have to eat”. During the 1960’s, someone made a copy of Mao’s little red book using the quotes of then president Lindon Johnson. That was on the preface page.

A book was recently published. One of the later chapters was titled with that phrase. Here is the beginning of that chapter.

'Right, boys,' said Prof Roland Smith to his assistants. 'The Foundation officials have queried several statements in our research proposal. They want further clarification of the objectives of the work, they want to know exactly how we are going to tackle the project, and they want to have a clear idea of what we plan to get out of it. So, let us get back to the word processor and produce a new proposal to meet their requirements. ' This scene is re-enacted repeatedly in numerous universities and research establishments all over the world. Research personnel faces similar problems, except their research plans may not depend on an external grant-giving body and are usually judged internally. From time to time, every research group needs to produce some justification for its current budget or the allocation of future funds, and the decision-makers in charge of the purse strings are constantly struggling to adjudicate between competing demands for scarce resources and deciding to make choices. Therefore, it is not surprising that they seek more and more information to assign, with the expectation that comprehensive proposals, crammed with data and detailed schedules, would help reduce uncertainties and increase the probability that the research would lead to tangible results. It would be refreshing to have a foundation that scorns all this paperwork and is content to allocate funds purely on the reputation and track record of the applicants. Such applicants would expect during their research to depart from their declared initial program and follow their intuition. One research funding body in the medical field does precisely that, but many have regarded such an approach as too risky.

Moreover, it is relatively rare. The general desire to reduce uncertainty is allied to the need for decision-makers to be accountable for their actions. As they become more reluctant to make mistakes, the level of risk aversion throughout the process of managing R&D tends to increase.

Furthermore, funding decisions are often driven by committees and rely on peer review panels. Such decisions are standard practice for charitable foundations and appropriations machinery in the industry. An observation is that committees tend to be conservative, which leads them to seek consensus and compromise. The greater the pressure on limited resources and the more accountable those participating in the decision process, the more bureaucratic the process becomes. As bureaucracy increases, so does the level of frustration of research workers and innovators. One often hears the exasperated comment from an applicant for funds that if he (she) could specify in detail what results would emerge from the proposed research project, there would be no need to ask for money to carry out the work. A suggestion is that many applicants purport to forecast detailed results, which are none other than those already obtained in their most recent projects. In this way, they eliminate the risk of not achieving the objectives enumerated in the research proposal, and they can finance the next stage in the research program using the allocated funds. Such a system means that the allocated funds represent a reward for work already done~ as opposed to proposed future work. By appending published papers and detailed reports to a research proposal as 'proof of tangible results, the applicants significantly increase the chances of getting approval.

Saw this one today da

Funny quote. But very wrong.. violence is simply violence, not an answer or a solution. My enemies have their reasons , if I kill 100 of them I will create 1000..

We all have some bitterness inside ourselves.. I like you allot , and it's nice you can vent emotional poison to us.. please remember that the past is gone and the past has absolutely no right to poison the mind of a lovely person like yourself Bobbie Sue Ellen!😊. So I hope you can let go , and not judge - it because women can, it because men do.. etc.. really, truthelly - it because humans are daft and inexperienced and ALL of us make silly mistakes , and unfortunately some of us are simply unkind..

Every since I saw this thread its all I think about. This one I could only remember half so I had to google it. Thank God for google it remembered the whole quote. Those that watch NCIS will remember this.
