From my experience, none.

I find plastic backed diapers generally reduce odours slightly more so than cloth-backed. It doesn't appear to be a huge difference, though.
I can't comment on messing as I don't tend to mess my diapers, I only pee in them.
For pee, I don't think I've ever really noticed a smell unless I've worn for a super long time for testing purposes (not recommended, hygiene reasons etc). I only rarely wear for a super long period, usually if I'm testing a new nappy. I find staying hydrated = pee smelling less intense, this seems to help more than any diaper 'odour control' in my experience.
Some diapers are also scented, if you'd prefer that? Some smell really nice, the Rearz Daydreamers smell great! I'm not sure how long the scent lasts though, especially if wet/messed.

the best odor control :
change frequently (every 4-6 hours)
clean your self well between each change
add some powder to help with the smells a bit
staying in a wet diaper half a day or even a whole day you are going to smell
there is no magic diaper to hide that
change often & clean your self
your skin will thank you

The best odour control is Hugo Boss Bottled Infinite.
Or Adidas sport cologne. Definitely cheaper than the first option.

Go for plastic backed disposables or active fit. In my experience cotton style nappies never smell good even if it’s just a wee
