Well after it has been determined that my bladder doesn't contract at all and the inter-stim device that was installed to help does not work for the problem anymore, I am finally having surgery to place a Supra-pubic catheter. This is due to my limited dexterity will be a capped device and will not be draining into a bag as myself being active, I can't connect the bag effectively enough to keep it together. If it does become uncapped it will drain into my diaper like my current catheter, worst part of that is the cap get lost in my pants and things get soaked fast. But my Doctor and NP, like myself have no worries about this or infection as I too am an infectious disease control specialist clinic nurse specialist so the chance normal cleaning are no greater than a normal supra-pubic. I'm just trying to find out if I can swim with this thing in, this summer, but I guess I'll find out. I would have had surgery on the 23 of this month but I got Covid-19 on the 30 of January and that messed that up so I had to wait so I can handle the general anesthestia.

Hope the surgery goes well for you

If you think this is your best option and you can live with it. Then I say it should not be to bad and go for it. They can be removed and later in just hours the ostomy will close up on their own if left open. I would choose this over a Foley the natural way. If I needed it long term.

The capped foley has been kind of a pain and painful, it hangs kind of low and catches on things and keeps disconnecting with how active I am. This will sit higher and I'll have a bit more control over it. I'm not holding out over the cap staying on as they are normally meant for people who are less active than I am but it's from the four options I was given the best I can do to cope with the problems caused by my MS.

Well I will say a prayer for it all to go well. I think I would like it a lot more than a constant tube up my penis. They are not very comfortable long term for a male. Especially hen you get a erection. They really can be a mood killer

You might look at some tagaderm to place over the wound and seal it from getting wet when swimming. It is used a lot to keep surgical sites dry. You might ask your doctor if he thinks it is a good idea. They may even have a product that works. If it does not seal it good I guarantee a ostomy bag over it would. You can leave it capped and inside the bag and it would keep it dry and seal up even better. My wife is a ostomy patient and she swims and soaks in the tub a lot and it never leaks water in or stool out. This is just me thinking about the issue I have no experience in this issue. Again it might be worth asking the doctor but I cant see how it would hurt anything. I doubt they are going to want it to get soaking wet just for infection purposes. But it sounds like you know little about all of that. Let us know how it goes. I might end up there one day myself. My bladder walls just keep getting thicker and loosing more ability to stretch and contract. I have had to self cath daily since I was 19.

I have to be careful about using things like tegaderm and any medical adhesives as I'm allergic to them and I'm not really in to rashes or being on predinisone to get rid of them. But I understand what you are saying as it goes it I will figure things out between my doctor and the nurse practictioner I went to school with we'll figure this out.

I have no doubt sure you will. Also ostomy adhesive are made with natural products that don't effect most people just for that reason. Many use a fruit nectar to make them is what the ostomy nurse told us many years ago. I know every ones allergies are different too. Man that clear medical tape the hospitals use will blister my skin in minutes. I won't let them near me with it. Tagaderm has never bothered me. I use to use it to hold a pain patch down. That and every time they access my port. But like I said we are all different. I am very interested in how this turns out for you. So keep us posted.
