This always comes up, with dozens or responses. Maybe I'm the exception, but I've been shaving down there, for decades! I use a typical 3-5 blade razor, don't change it that often, and it takes me less than twenty seconds. I currently use surgical soap, mixed with regular soap, but have used everything from shampoo to conditioner to hand soap to bath gel, with the same basic results. I started with the surgical soap after s bout with MRSA infections, not related to shaving.
I think, in the initial stages, there's more upset to hair follicles, but, as you continue to shave every other day, I think they just settle into that being the norm. I do get some small reddish spots, occasionally, but I haven't had an ingrown hair down there for decades.
Now, if I could just get rid of those pesky nose & ear hairs, and stop the growth on my back...
