"Let us suppose you can dream any dream you want. At first you'd dream of all the pleasures you desire until you're bored with it. The next night you wish for more of an adventure, with risks, a dream where you're not completely in control. Eventually you will forget that you are the dreamer, and dream of the very life in which you live now." - condensing a long quote from Alan Watts

"What most call reality, is in fact nothing more than a culturally sanctioned and linguistically enforced hallucination."

"The metamorphosis of conscious life occurs beyond the grave. The butterfly even to the Greeks was the symbol of psyche and metamorphosis, and what our culture is on the brink of learning is that our terror of death is a misapprehension of how the universe works. We are like caterpillars contemplating pupation, saying my God, no longer will I chew on the cabbage leaves and moving around under foliage, I don't want to be a chrysalis, lying still, exhibiting no sign of life. The caterpillar doesn't know, unless there are shaman caterpillars, that on the other side, are these miraculous creatures moving through the air in exultant iridescence, it is the human soul, and the mystery of our becoming." - Terence Mckenna

“The most important aspect of love is not in giving or the receiving: it’s in the being. When I need love from others, or need to give love to others, I’m caught in an unstable situation. Being in love, rather than giving or taking love, is the only thing that provides stability. Being in love means seeing the Beloved in all around me.” - Ram Dass

"Thou shalt love your neighbor as thyself."
"For the light of the body is in the eye. If thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be filled with light. If thine eye is evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. Therefore, if the light in thee is darkness, how great is that darkness! "
"Know ye not that ye are gods?" New Testament Canon
"Whoever discovers the interpretation of these sayings will not taste death." - Gospel of Thomas

"We are a species with amnesia." - Graham Handcock

"No tree can grow to Heaven unless its roots reach down to Hell." - Carl Gustav Jung

"The psychotic drowns in the same waters the mystic swims through with delight." - Joseph Campbell

"The war not brought to peace in our minds, will eventually find its manifestation reflected in the outside world." - me

"If you are frightened of dying, and you're holding on, you will see devils tearing your life away. If you have made your peace, the devils are really angels freeing you from the earth." - Bruce Rubin in the movie Jacob's Ladder

US President Lyndon Johnson, “ Don’t spit into the soup, we all have to eat”.
That reminds me of a story an old colleague told me during his time in the army, there was a drunk cook who sometimes did his business in the soup. That's why my colleague never ate soup ever again once he found out o.o

Post 'em here!

I won't use the quotes I already use in my profile or in my signature so it comes down to fresh material. Lemme kick it off...

"The only time a woman succeeds at changing a man is when he is a baby." --Natalie Wood. Guess that's why Robert Wagner bumped her off the boat? (j/k) 🤭 Anyhoo, it's a perfect quote for our genre-ation. 👈🤭

An extremely favorite character of mine is from the Jurassic Park empire: Dr. Ian Malcolm...what an amazingly-profound guy! As a chaos-theory specialist, he wasn't religious but he did touch upon theology & morality a time or two as expression in a few of his quotes:
  • "Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
  • "Don't you see the danger, John, inherent in what you're doing here? Genetic power is the most awesome force the planet's ever seen, but you wield it like a kid that's found his dad's gun."
  • "God creates dinosaurs, God destroys dinosaurs. God creates man, man destroys God. Man creates dinosaurs..."
  • ...and the most-profound 4-word quote I've yet seen: "Life finds a way".
So now, I'm curious: did Ian Malcolm's genius come from a Character-Development Team comprising 35 quasi-intellectuals on something infinitely more powerful than Sanka...or did the script-writer randomly throw a loaded typewriter into a tornado and it came up with that? 🤔

Finally...Anissa Jones, the girl who played "Buffy" (no, not the 'vampire-slayer') in Family Affair (1966-1971). I was 27 months old when I first saw her on TV...and fell in instant love with her. I wanted a snuggle or a hug from her so badly! She made curly pigtails my all-time fav girls' hairstyle! So adorable...anyway, when on a TV talk show, while still little, she was being interviewed and came up with this utterly-golden gem:
  • "I can read...except for a very big word we sometimes have. Like the word 'philosopher'. Do you know what a philosopher is? Well...it's a man that thinks a lot, but doesn't do anything much about it." 🤣🤣🤣
So...there's my contribution. Got any good ones?

BobbieSueEllen !!

"Imagination"

How's this Squidward?" "Not a picket fence you ding dong, picket sign."

"What are you two doing? We're playing with our reef blowers. That's the most childish thing I've ever heard of. But it's fun. How can you possibly have fun with one of those oversized hair driers? Like this!"

"Licking doorknobs is illegal on other planets."

I’m not sure whose quote this is, I think Mark Twain: “The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction has to make sense.”

"Pete Townsend used to say that being on stage is like being on Heroin, but I've never been on Heroin. But that felt like 4 paracetamol, which is the most drugs I've ever taken"
