Hi all! So I'm someone who is on the rounder side of things and I was looking for some tips and tricks on how people are able to diaper themselves? I personally seem to have a lot of trouble with it, typically being I can't strap my diaper tight enough so it falls down and leaks pretty often. As someone who eventually wants to start wearing diapers in public, I'm worried that one of these times my diaper will leak and it'll be a whole fiasco. I try using underwear to hold it in place but it doesn't always work. Any help would be appreciated! ❤️

Do the tapes reach around to the front? Maybe try a larger size?

As someone who is on the rounder side myself I usually wear my diaper under my belly unlike most people who wear their diaper over their belly. I feel like it still leaks a bit quicker than it should but not as quick and it also doesn’t fall down as i can strap it pretty tight. Hopefully this also works for you.

If you’re looking for something to keep your diaper in place a onesie would work better than underwear but I usually don’t wear anything over my diaper unless I go out of the house with my diaper.

I have been cursed with a pot belly. Not overly huge though, just enough where my diaper can be fastened over my belly but will fall under after getting up. It happens. I found that onsies keep the diaper up and snug even if the waistband falls to the waste line where I wear my pants. Also when wearing slacks or shorts that require a belt I I keep the diaper up higher than my pants then button my waistband with the diaper inside then use my belt to tighten around the waist to keep the diaper from falling down. Works like a charm. Btw I'll also be wearing a onsie under my pants.

Do you diaper yourself lying down or standing by a wall? My experience has been that standing by a wall can allow me to get a much tighter fit.

Hi Lintukoto, i had the same problems when i bought and tried my first pack. The diaper seemed to be enormous, i was trying to diaper myself up laying down on my bed and i couldn't get a tight fit, no matter what, the nappy fell down every time.
But everything changed when i learned to do it standing up. Just press the back of the diaper against a wall or door to hold it while you tape the bottom tapes first. You have to tuck the front wings tight with your opposite hand while you doing it, and ensure the front of the diaper is around the same level as the back. So if you are tapering the right side first, then you tuck the right front wing tight with your left hand and do the right bottom tape far enough to keep it tight. Then you do the bottom left. Then you do the top tape from the opposite side you began with. So in this case, do the top left and then the top right. This is to compensate, because the first tape you do usually pulls the nappy to that side. Then you can readjust any tape you feel not tight enough or overly tight.
If the tapes from each side are very close or touching each other, then maybe the diaper is too large and you have to bought a size down.
Different bodies have different tape landing zones, but usually you want to tape the bottom tapes pointing slightly up and top tapes pointing slightly down.
For the leaks, ensure that the leak guards are up, and roll your finger all around between your leg and the leg gathers. It has to be a little tight, but not that much. Also, fold the diaper in two along the long side, before you diaper yourself, to make something like a "U" form, so the pee is channeled to the back.

So, that's it, hope it helps! i'm sure there are some diapering guides here on the forum.

I didn’t know standing up made a difference as well. I always put on my diapers standing up, never tried it lying down. I thought I was pretty much the only one who did it like that. I don’t use a wall though, I put the bottom of my diaper in between my legs and put my legs together to hold it in place.

That made me smile ... 😊

They do, I just have trouble holding them in place to actually strap them properly ;w;

It sounds like I should invest in a onsie then :>

I usually do it sitting down or laying down, but I'll have to try the wall! I've never really thought about that ;o

I wouldn't be surprised if the diaper is too big to be fair, I tend to worry about my size and getting a pack that doesn't fit so I normally just get the largest one 😅
Thanks for the detailed advice! I'll be sure to try it later ^^

Is it possible to order single diapers. The store I usually order from also sells single diapers, so if I’m not sure about which size to get I just order one of both sizes and try them both. I don’t know how big you are but I’m a bit on the big side myself and large diapers are way to big for me so I always wear medium. If you can’t order just one smaller diaper it might be worth it to order a pack of smaller diapers to try them.

I am also large with a belly. When diapering I do it in front of our dresser with a large mirror above it. I get the front of the diaper where I want it, lean against the dresse to hold it in place. I can then position the rear of the diaper to begin taping. The mirror helps me to postiion th tapes right where I want them. I can get them very snug.

Same … standing up, no wall. And I don’t have a problem with sliding down. Matter of fact, I struggle to lower for #2.

Now that you mention it, me too. I never thought it could be due to my diaper being too tight. But then again I barely ever do number 2 in my diaper
