So when I lost Goldy the vet clinic sent a grieving package with a paw print, signed card from the staff and a package of wild flower. There was also a poem that I loved called "the Rainbow bridge".

So in the great void that exists in every house the Mother's day card and my son's graduation card has entered this zone. In looking for them I found that grieving package again and here is the poem.

The Rainbow Bridge
"Just this side of Heaven is a place called the rainbow bridge.
When an animal dies that is especially close
to some one here, That pet goes to the rainbow bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all our special friends
so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine,
And our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill or olds are restored
to health and vigor, those who were hurt or maimed
are made whole and strong again. Just as we remember them
in our dreams of days gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing;
they each miss someone very special to them
who was left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when
one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent,
his body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group,
flying over the green grass, his legs carry him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet
you cling to each other in joyous reunion,
never to part again.

The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress
the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusted eyes
of your pet, so long gone from your life
but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together............

My vets did the same. I have her paw print in a drawer in the kitchen. I also got, maybe the same poem and I got a card that the entire staff signed. Veterinarians and their staff are good people who love animals. I'm sure they grieve with each family who has lost a pet. I was so lucky with my dog in that she died naturally while at the vets with me and my son with her. She was suddenly very sick and her passing was a blessing, just like my wife. But both passings hurt so very much.

I wanted to thank everyone for their kind replies. I received her cremains and there was a wonderful paw print and condolence card from the animal hospital. It made me well up again, but it was so very nice to have.

When I lost my cat, he vet returned her remains in a cardboard box. I got a white leather covered file box with brass corners and mounted an engraved plaque with her name and birthdate etc. on the top. I wrapped her in a fur blanket and placed her inside and wrapped the b ox in heavy plastic and placed her in my garden under a red rose bush my favourite aunt gave to me. She too liked my cat and was sad to hear she has passed.

I had a dream last night where I was walking my dog, I guess because of reading this thread last night. I woke up crying. How fortunate we are to have sweet dogs in our lives. They can brighten a miserable or depressing day.

I'm so sorry for ur loss it's never easy to say bye to ur best friend in the whole world, I use to have a beagle border collie cross and we lost him last fall, he was only 10 years old but vary slow going up stairs so I decided to take him to the vet for a check up and after check up, x rays and blood work I never got to come home with him as he had a volleyball size mass in his stomach and didn't show any signs of it, took about a week for me to stop crying my self to sleep and being angry with my self for taking him to the vet and the worst of it is the date was Friday October 13 four months later we adopted a six month old German shepherd because I just couldn't survive without a loving friend
So take care and be positive there is always sun after a storm FB_IMG_1611840375711.jpg20240301_173156.jpg
