I don't like taping panels

I prefer diapers with the tape panel for night time use as it seems that I can get a snugger fit to prevent night time leaks.

But they can also be an annoyance in a daytime diaper.

funny I was just thinking the other day that I don't like the taping panels on a couple of cloth (washable) nappies I have, one from Snuggleblanks / Blankencare and one from "The Continence People" / "The Washable Incontinence Shop". They are shaped washable nappies which fasten with velcro tabs but they both have a loud (crackly) and stiff 'taping' panel at the front
I have Snuggleblanks nappies - both the thick original Contislip which is super absorbant but takes an age to dry, and the pocket ones that you stuff with inserts . Both are bamboo cotton and feel so nice to wear, but agree that the Velcro taping panel is a bit stiff and large. Wonder if they would have been better with rows of snap fasteners like some of the baby all in ones . Not tries The Washable Incontinence Shop nappies but they look to have some great designs. Was looking into this but last time I looked it seems that every item is listed as out of stock. What do you think of them.

Like you I am a cloth lover. For years I used Terry nappies pinned on.

What plastic pants do you use with your Snuggleblanks ? I’m finding it invcreasingly difficult to find good plastic pants. The Babykins super soft ones I used to buy from Incontinence Shop, Bolton are no longer available . Another company specialising in adult plastic pants, Arizona healthcare, have stopped trading and there seems to be a lot less choice around. Some of the ones I’ve seen are too narrow in crotch for a bullky terry nappy.

I don't really like them either. I just have mixed luck with them and yeah, sometimes the top tapes especially 'want' to go higher than the panel.

I really like hook and loop though.

For me having worn diapers 24/7 for nearly 20 years now, this added front panel is a huge plus, a def improvement over diapers without! I actually feel I get and maintain a very snug diaper fit. I don't remove or lower my diaper for BM, so that isn't for me. But being able to get that snug fit which stays snug is a huge win. I'll admit though, public diaper changes can be a bit loud!

In general, the tapes will work best when placed in the tape panel. If you need to put the tapes in an area other than the tape panel, it probably means that you are using the wrong size diaper or you are just really unfortunate in landing in between sizes.

Normally, tape panels on diapers means that the stickiness of the tape is much greater and the diaper will have less issues with stretching and getting out of place over time. It also means that you can normally get the waist tapes just a bit tighter without having to worry about the tapes unsticking or having the tapes ripe the plastic of the diaper.

The nappies from 'The Continence People' / 'The Washable Incontinence Shop' are similar to the ones from Snuggleblanks / Blankencare in that they have a large and stiff taping panel, the edge of this can dig into your legs a bit, but apart from that they feel nice and are nice to look at in the trendy grey colours. You're correct that everything is shown as out of stock - on 20/12/23 they posted on facebook that they had to temporarily suspend orders due to a family emergency and there has been no news since.

I use any old plastic pants from my random drawers full of them. I have pants from UK, France, Spain, Poland, Argentina etc but always pull-on for me. I never really bother with ABDL shops, I kind of like the naughtiness of buying stuff from normal shops and wearing for fun! I do wish I'd got round to trying Arizona though, that was a serious omission on my part. Also I had a pair from Hazel Jones which were great, wish I'd got more from there!

Thanks Sambus for reply.
I did speak with the owner of The Continence People when they first started. The owner is incontinent himself and prior to that he worked closely in helping Vicky at Snuggleblanks design and test her adult size nappies. The products look great but at the time I couldn’t justify buying more. Wish I had now.

All my adult life I’ve been in search of the perfect cloth nappy and Snuggleblanks is as close as I’ve got. For many years it was makeshift terries from appropriate sizes towels which my ex wife trimmed and hemmed and then sewed in a soaker pocket into which I could then stuff a folded baby size Terry to give extra thickness and absorption down the centre. I’m 61 now and been in night nappies for most of my life, the only real down time was through my 20’s and early 30’s when I seemed quite relatably dry at night. Kept nappied at night until 17 even though after I was 12 or 13 my night wetting became a lot less frequent. However I loved the feel and security of being nappied and wouid occasionally wear when I got the urge.

In my early 40’s spinal issues and surgery have resulted in my issues returning and with the support and understanding of my wife I am nappied every night now and have been for most of the last 20 years. Fortunately I like wearing too and it brings me great comfort

I've been pleasantly surprised over the last year by how Rearz has expanded the taping panel. They now extend lower than I can typically achieve with my taping, and high enough that the waistband doesn't fold over. It wasn't always this way... with them or with anyone else... but recent purchases of Daydreamer and InControl+ have been glorious in this respect.

Same here.
Taping panels also are noisy themselves and when trying to remove a tape discreetly.
I always wear a diaper when flying transatlantic and if I were to change
in the lavatory, trying to open those tapes would probably ring through that thin door.
Never had that issue with BetterDry which are my go-to diaper for those flights and nights.
Also never had an issue with tapes coming undone or tearing the plastic backing when wet,

the original attends had tapes that could be re fastened and did not need a taping panel. I suspect this took alot of engineering between the company that made the tapes and the company that made the plastic diaper shell. How much easier and less expensive it is to just overlay a stiff plastic panel. And that is my main objection, the stiffness. If a taping panel must be used, can't we find a material that is as soft as the main shell?
