… that when I was about five I had a (presumably non bed-wetting) friend who had an older brother who wet the bed. My friend took delight in taking me to his brother’s bedroom and showing me his brother’s wet bed. I remember sniffing the same and it smelling strongly of wee (quite an evocative smell, a wet bed!)
I recall that they had a little sister who must have only been two or three as I remember seeing girl nappies in the house.
It strikes me now as quite cruel to have an older child waking in a wet bed every morning while their younger sibling gets to wake up in the safety and comfort of a wet nappy.
At the time I suppose the perception among some parents was “nappies are for babies, (or at least unacceptable after age 3).
