Lucky me, I could still fit in the largest size of Pampers (the European size 8) and some Asian brands.

I'm not quite sure if this is what you mean - I was hooked when I first wore a certain generic french white plastic-backed diaper with blue tapes in the 80s which just felt heavenly, and I've had a predilection for white disposables with blue tapes ever since. All the time I try to replicate that feeling from my childhood.

I was so glad when I could buy adult sized diapers and plastic pants that looked like baby diapers, so even though I couldn't fit into baby diapers, I was extremely glad that adult sized, baby looking diapers were made and sold.
