I've never really thought of shorts as specifically childish. Where I live, most people wear shorts during the summer outside of work.

Personally, I'm wearing shorts once it hits 60 or above in the spring. Sometimes as low as mid-50s, if it's a large jump up from the previous temperature. It's the exactly opposite way in the fall, though.
