Carrie & The people under the stairs by Stephen King. I had just turned 5

Man, now that I think about it, I have no idea. o_O

Though this reminds me there's huge variation in R-rated films. Some are a "hard" R, full of violence and torture. Some of are just a couple extra F-bombs.

The Patriot, at around 10 I believe.

I was 11 when I saw Psycho, though I don't think movies had ratings back then.

Unless you saw an "R" version of the PATRIOT, that was PG13 at best.

Why is the Patriot Rated R?
WHY THE MPAA RATED IT: R

For strong war violence.Jun 28, 2000

Right from common sense media

Make sure you know what you’re talking about before posting

I’m not positive, but it might have been Terminator. Either that or Die Hard.

sorry about that Jason, it was a very violent movie. I stand humbly corrected.

Hot Fuzz with Simon Pegg in. I thought I could handle it but I couldn't, I laugh it off now and it's become one of my favourites. It's a good film though and I'd defiantly recommend it as well as The World's End and Shaun of the Dead.

I was going to put Sixth Sense in but I had to doublecheck what certificate it was since UK/Europe Ratings are a bit different.

If you asked scared the shit out of you R movies I’d have to say poltergeist 1982 I wasn’t even 10 yet. My older brother and his friends took me to that movie I had nightmares for weeks

I remember when I was 8 years old I saw Soylent Green. This was the early 70's when I saw it. I too had nightmates for weeks.

Was that the one where people were turned in the green goo on crackers?

Hammer House of Horror's, The House That Bled To Death 😱

Part of the anthology, currently available on Amazon US, and the most notorious for it's scariness (hey, it was 1980!).
It's 18+ in the US, not sure about the UK.

I must've been nine when my sister and I watched on telly, one Saturday night whilst our parents were out on the piss and she was undertaking her newfound role as babysitter for me (as if).
We were normally babysat by one of the girls up the road, so my sister's stint had it's share of trepidation.
We'd watched all the previous episodes leading up to this one and Hammer was generally considered tame.
Nobody was expecting The House That Bled To Death.

Alien. In the early 90s with aliens being second
