I stand corrected. I understand exactly what you mean with the senior lances, guys nearing eas, etc. Those combinations are certainly a drain on discipline. Was the scenery out in town st least decent?
yes, it definitely was. The guys who were married and could live off base had a vastly better experience than those of us stuck in the bricks. In the rare times we had extended leave it was amazing, I was able to climb the stairway to heaven back before Instagram existed and the spot was blown up which was really cool. Getting the required hours for my humvee license by driving giant loops around the main island was pretty cool also. The chow hall was also more tolerable than it was in Lejuene thanks to all the fresh fruit and stuff. The Corps institutional need to be as spartan as possible and the environment at the time, the surge followed by Moshtarak, just kind of ruined any joy of being in Hawaii outside of the few moments you could get away and forget why you were in HI in the first place.

Ok, I'll be the first RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force), 23 years. Now I do the same job without a uniform. I was lucky, I only had to live in barracks with roommates for 15 months and the whole time I had a house to go home to on the weekends. Any other time I had a private room unless deployed. Long deployments were torture but I did a few. I don't do well in tight quarters as it is but to then take away all psychological outlets was hard and resulted in a few bouts of depression. You don't realize how little human contact you share until you are deployed and then get home or how lonely you can be even with other people almost on top of you. But there are benefits and good times too. Experiences that you will never forget. Don't let me paint it as all bad. I wouldn't have stuck around so long if it was.

Hello, I got to wondering how many of us in here are prior or active military? I served in the Marine Corps from 90-94.

I grew up as a bedwetter and wore diapers till 14 then lost bladder control at 35 and have worn 24/7 for the last 15 years. I wore occasionally while in the service but not as much as I would have liked top at the time.
I was Army from Jul 2001 to April 2006 then changed it National Guard April 2004 to Jan 2010. Was in Iraq in 2003 and 2005

I was injured in a car wreck April 2006, I was was just 24 years old, (14 days before releasing to National Guard) that left me with full incontinence, 6 damaged disks, nerve damage and a broken wrist. I have been in diapers since April 14, 2006.

I hated having to go to my unit medics to get the documentations and referrals to specialist about my incontinence and back issues. So embarrassing. It was easier to keep my diapers hidden, except for that needed to know, from my fellow soldiers. I ended up with an Honorable discharge from the Army and an Honorable discharge for medical reasons from the Army Guard.

USMC 07-11 here!

I was an 0351, so being in a line unit might have had something to do with it, but kbay was an absolutely miserable place to be stationed. It also might have been the time period, getting dropped in to a unit with senior lances whose own senior lances had been Fallujah Marines, along with a few of those Fallujah Marines still in the unit as close to eas corporals, meant rampant alcoholism-fueled hazing was the order of the day. add in the fact that all the division hq for 3rd mar div is located in Okinawa, so kbay was really just this unsupervised wild west.
