Looking to understand proper use of diapers

  2. Incontinent
I have Parkinson's Disease, and as a result my bladder has a small amount of leakage... nothing my underwear couldn't handle, but it really needs that extra cleaning. I have heard that over reliance on diapers can result in more severe incontinence. Is any of this true? What can I do to avoid this? Ideally I would like to continue to use the large adult diapers (and not simply pads) while sleeping and napping.
My condition has no cure and will continue to decline.

Wearing protection whether it's a pad, pullup or diaper will not make you more incontinent.
Now of course as your condition worsens over time you might get more IC (Incontinence) but that's not from the diaper it self.

If a pad works for you right now to keep underwear dry then do what works.
If you need to step up your protection game we are here to help you find the best product

Talk to your medical team as there is likely help you can get to cover the cost of your IC products

Oh, I didn't realize that may be covered under insurance.

Start looking into it
it's usually not the fastest process so by the time you get approved you might really need them.

Remember you're not alone in this. We're all battling the IC monster in one form or an other

They can be, depending on your insurance. It also requires a referral, so if you're not comfortable talking to your doctor about it then you may not be able to

I've never been shy to talk to a doctor about this kind of stuff. Maybe I would have been 20 years ago, but not now, and not considering it is a symptom of a well known neurological disease. My opinion on doctors has been to tell them the truth as they are very understanding. Most of them have "seen it all" anyways and are more interested in making sure you are healthy, which can lead to not so great results if you hold back indicating you have unusual lifestyle choices. That being said... I'm a bit more hesitant to talk amount some my mental deviations (except for ASD).

I am moving soon, so I will end up with a new set of doctors and specialists though, but I am fairly certain there won't be any issues.

As you know far better than me, Parkinson's Disease is a progressing disease over time. So, you approach with your medical team is perfect! To that point, be talking with them regarding their recommendation for a medical team at your new location. They may be willing to recommend a group and provide them with your medical records so that your set as you arrive.

Your choice of wearing an adult diapers while napping or sleeping is a wise choice especially if you are an active sleeper. As stated by SparkyDog
Insurance groups are normally slow acting and it is not unusual to have to work your way through their system. Do not accept a no at first as many systems are adding diapers as part of their coverage.

As also stated by SparkyDog wearing diapers will not contribute to your becoming even more IC. Only actively working at becoming IC will, which no one from the IC forum would recommend!

i can't comment on a medical condition and i know very little about Parkinson relying on your doctors is best . i do fully agree with being completely open and honest with your doctors they need know everything so they can treat you. relying on diapers won't make you incontinent so if you prefer a full on diaper while sleeping or any activity i say you will be fine. there are many individuals using diapers for various reasons who aren't incontinent. the important issue is getting the best sleep / rest possible.
