Let me just put out a hypothetical....
If I were to come up with a private AB/DL retail space that could be "by appointment only" in South East Texas, would there be an audience for it? It would be listed under medical supply.
I caved and bought some when a seller didn't know what they had. I paid around $100 for a sealed bag of 30. Now, singles go for $35 a pop. This wasn't too long ago either.
It was worth it to have something in my room that connects me directly to my childhood in a unique way.

Anything from the 70's about 1999 were crinkly. Then every company had switched to nearly quiet cloth covers. Even ABDL plastic diapers that exist today are not as noisy as the ones available back then.

This should break up enough of the padding to make it more efficient. If you ruffle it, I tends to break up the padding too much leading to clumping and leaks.
There was one incident when I was a 5 and my parents took me along while shopping for a new SUV. Somehow, I was allowed to drink a 20oz bottle of soda before we left. We were about 15 minutes from home and I was bursting so, dad had to make an emergency stop at a McDonalds so I could go pee...
I went out and bought out the last of the Gerber prefolds at Target just because they make wonderful cloths for cleaning vehicles & furniture. The old ones we had were pretty ratty and from when I was a kid and needed to be junked.
