  • Yeah true. I thought I recognised the alien thing the kid was sitting on. :p Thanks for the vid btw. It seems like so long since that movie came out now!
Yes its from toy story 3. Here a YouTube clip of it. I saw this the first time I watched Toy Story 3 and thought it was funny.
I just paused the movie on my laptop and did a screen copy to get the pic. Also that means Toy Story 3 needs to be added to the list of movies with diapers or pull-ups in them.
You smoked the Brembos! Good Lord what were you doing to that poor thing? :p I've never smoked the brakes on Dad's and it's got piddly brakes compared to yours. True, true. If you are going to mod it hard, it's probably best to let the next owner worry about problems. :p This is why you should never buy a second-hand WRX. They've all been thrashed by the previous owners. Well you're lucky to actually have options like that! I just have to take what I can get and be glad for it. What do you do for a living? I like to talk extreme and dream big too. My ideal car would be my avatar, the Leone STi ver. 8. Not a factory model, shall we say...
and everything on mine seems excellent, still. I haven't had any trouble with it except for the fact that i have brought it home on multiple occasions with the bremdo rotors and calipers smoking hot. lol. I just thought that if i could always keep an sti with under 50000 miles and over 400 horsepower then i would be happy that i wasn't going to have to worry about fixing anything and that i could get the thrills I'm used to. I hate it when cars have to go to the shop. Anyway, I dream big and like to talk about extreme circumstances whenever i get into gear-head mode. It's gonna be so much fun to have more options financially. Buying new turbo kits and upgrading the fueling system doesn't sound as daunting as it used to when you bring home double the amount you used to. I can't wait.
It's probably something to do with the fact that I learned to drive manual in it, and so did all three of the previous owners' kids... :p
Is it an EJ or an FB with chain timing? Is it closed, open or semi-closed deck? Does it have forged internals (being STi I'm gonna say yes). To get that much power, you're going to have to seriously upgrade the fuelling system; aftermarket injectors, braided dash-big lines from the solid tank line, and possibly a more powerful pump. Making 440hp from a 2.5 is getting serious. Although I'm probably lecturing the professor here. :p If you do it correctly, with the right fuelling and tune, you should be able to run boost in the 20's on stock STi internals, provided the block is closed or semi-closed, to prevent torsional forces cracking it. Our Impreza has 125,000km on it and it runs like new, to be honest. Brakes are good, suspension is pretty good (although the bushings need replacing; they're a bit cracked from too much gravel road driving). The gearbox occasionally makes strange noises going into third when cold, but it's just the 5-speed, which is nowhere near as good as your six.
It's Subaru! There was a Leone on TradeMe (NZ's version of Ebay) that had done 494,000km on one engine! And there are many and sundry original Legacy turbos with 200,000km that are still fine. To be on the safe side, I'd probably replace it at 100k miles. Although worst case scenario, you have to rebuild the engine, which frankly isn't that bad... Yes, mods like the ECU are best done professionally, as is porting and polishing, but it's really easy to fit turbos, exhaust, intercooler, etc. You might want to do a bit of research on your block.
You have given me some good suggestions , most of them ones I have thought of. I wanted to replace the wires and plugs because I have been running the hell out of it I have 40000 miles on it already and it is still going strong. I figured that if I was going to upgrade the aspiration and exhaust then I would go ahead and replace the electronics. Although you may be right, that migh be fruitless. I just wanna make surr that there is very little left to chance if I am going to add 100 bho or so. It already had 340. I will be talking with some professionals before I do anything. An even though I would love to so the modifications myself, I would rather someone with better equipment and better understanding do it or to walk me through it. We will see what my money is looking like in January. I probably won't buy a new one, but it would be cool to just replace them before they got to 50 k miles. That would get expensive , lol.
Although ripping 1st-2nd at the redline, I have managed to trigger the traction control, which means I must have spun the front wheels or something... Doing this also makes the driveline thump QUITE badly, so I don't do it often. Tuning an exhaust is quite an art, yes. I have been doing a bit of reading on it, and back pressure is quite important in a turbo.
The 2013 model is just the same as your 2011 isn't it? Or have they released the new-gen one, based on the new Impreza? Because I thought that was supposed to be an MY14 car. Personally, I would just modify the old one. Really? Replace the plugs and wires? Wouldn't have thought that would make much of a difference, unless it's done high kms. You could go with a huge turbo like a VF59 twin-scroll, some 800cc injectors, and a new turbo-back with ported header and intake, plus a better intercooler. And then tune it with a Link or similar. That would be sick... Yes, fair enough. I wouldn't tune it all for top-end power; it's quite easy to make it boggy and lifeless at low rpm. I should know; I drive an NA 4WD 2.0. :p It doesn't have a lot of poke below 3500...
Yeah it is...Luckily, I still have mine. I'm going to either do some gross modification to it in january or I am going to buy a brand new 2013 model. Depending on how much my new apartment will be, i could just be upgrading the chipset, have the electronics (plugs, wires, etc) replaced and have it programmed for higher fuel consumption. Maybe even upgrade the turbo and exhaust again. I'm gonna have to find a balance with the back pressure, because it effects power-band throttle control. Not that it matters for AWD, but i like the perfect efficiency/ power limits to be balanced, as well.
Yeah, I am quite into the older stuff, although I am a recent convert to the world of jazz, so I don't know that much yet. I listen to pretty much anything though, from Miles Davis to Benny Goodman (I love his version of Sing Sing Sing; we did it at prizegiving). Great work on your degree! One of my friends, and the drummer from the band (and also the guy who got me really into jazz) is starting his comp sci degree next year. He's more into the technical terms. I just listen to it, and do my best to play it. I'm slowly learning the art of improvisation (I play tenor). Still got the STi? One of them pulled up beside me at the lights today; current gen STi hatch. I learned that it's quite a bit faster than a 2.0R Sport hatch. :p
very well. I am currently in the same situation. I am finishing up this semester, including my final exams, and then i will have my Computer Science Degree. I am so looking forward to have most of my time focused on myself and those i love instead of being absolved with school. This is my second time through and i have had enough for a while. Have i told you that i too, love jazz. Well i love music a lot, but jazz specifically interests me due to time signature derivations and more difficult concepts like dissonant atmosphere's and disjointed poly-rhythmic sections. The only problem is, that even though i am musically savvy with the past 2 decades, anything before that (besides maybe 70's prog and classic rock) is gonna be harder for me to talk about intellectually. Like, i know that most jazz musicians worship the classics, like Stanley Jordan, Miles Davis, Chick Korea and return to forever. Anyway, good talking, hit me up anytime :)
Hey man! Long time no see! Not a lot to be honest. Just mucking around on Adisc for a bit before one of my last school Jazz Band concerts. I'm in the middle of exams at the mo too; two down, six to go. How's life for you?
