I wasn't sure if this would come under the admin forum, but I think it goes better in here...

Basically I just figured out how to switch the panic button back on, cos i's clever :D
Question for everyone who uses it - what have you set your panic button URL to and why?
I've set mine to Studio Daniel Libeskind Architecture cos it makes me look like I'm doing research for one of my uni essays. :p
I highly doubt there are any users who can't think of a good URL for their panic button, but you never know, might come in useful... =3

I have it on ESPN.com, though I might switch it to a Supreme Court case.

Mines' set to Addictinggames.com
I saw the panic button one day, clicked it, and it took back to the same page! Then it was gone, and I didn't even realize that you could turn it on and off! Thanks for the info

I've set mine to google.com

Just something to drive the site away for the time being.

I don't even have a panic button....not on ADISC anyway. I know there is one, I know what it's for, but I don't know where it is or how to activate it. Not that I'd use it anyway, since I'm well over the age of consent and I live alone! :p

Maybe I could set mine to be somewhere else exciting but this is mostly the only site I visit (aside from IMVU).

mine is set to

javascript:{ alert('Oh noes!'); }

I know, not very useful :p. But, I don't really need one and I felt the need to amuse myself.

Mine will be set to www.cansat.nl/phpBB2/ as it's one of my most visited sites (that my parents know of and even IF I were to need it at school (which I don't as I don't go on here at school) then I could use it).

I don't use it. While the page that it's linked to is loading, it still shows the page I'm on for a while, which increases the chance of someone seeing. I just close the tab it's on so it disappears instantly and switches to the other tab I have open, which is google, in case you're wondering. Although I suppose I could make the panic button close the tab, which might be quicker than hitting ctrl+f4...

EDIT: Or not... It seems that it won't work in firefox.

Hmm that's odd, Jack26, it works fine in my Firefox. Anyway, I haven't needed to use it yet, but i set it to digg.com as a generic site that I visit often. Usually I'm just lazy and assume that people can't read the text on my screen from the doorway 11ft away.

In firefox try ctrl+w to close the current tab.
Bah! ctrl+f4 > ctrl+w! F4 has less other keys around it so you're not as likely to accidentally hit something else :p. Besides, I'm just more used to ctrl+f4, it's what I've always used.

Is there a way to close the window with javascript that works with firefox then? Because I did something like window.close(); and it worked fine in IE but didn't do anything in FF.

As far as I know, firefox will not let a script close a window/tab that it didn't open. So I'm not sure that you will be able to make it work.

Yeah, I used to use that, except the F4 broke off my laptop the other day (the little clips broke, so it won't go back on either), so teh panic button may actually see more use now

Also, it's ALT+F4, I don't think CTRL+F4 does anything (though I don't want to try it just in case... I have alot of important tabs open at the moment :p)

ALT + F4 Closes the whole window, CTRL + F4 just closes the tab.

There's that, but usually if I'm in the middle of typing up a reply or something it's better if I don't have to close the tab and hence locate the thread and start over (especially when I've spent time quoting specific comments... grrr!) Using the panic button means I can back-page and my unfinished reply will still be there :D
