Lucky sod, before I was able to afford my own computer (leaving my parents powerless.), they refused to let me have my own personal computer in my bedroom. Not that it ever stopped me from browsing TBDL, it's just nice for convenience sake.

Very Nice! I remember when I got the computer in my room for the first time, I was 15. Although that still wasn't safe, mom used to come in, and "clean" my computer out, which was her way of snooping through my documents, recycle bin, etc... Then I bought my own, but they still controlled the internet. Now I bought a laptop so I can face the door, that's nice because I can see who walks in the door, get wireless from others so they can't take the net away, and many other things! It's very nice!

You got one computer in your room? Pffttt.... Come back when you got 7.
But on a more serious not. Yea congrats. I guess I was lucky. I first bought my own computer when I was 13. And it was in my room. But before that. Yeah, The stupid cover up window to hide your real activities. :p.

Just don't spend too much time on it. Not to alarm your parents that you are spending too much time on your computer instead of homework.

Guess I'm lucky for my parents not to snoop into my things on my computer. May be when I was younger. But now my knowledge of computers completely surpasses them. They can't really get into my things, then again I'm 18 and they said they would respect my privacy. I'm old enough not to do anything stupid.

So maybe try to brush up on your computer skills. But don't go into super PARANOIA mode and add a password at every possible point. Just don't look too suspeicous.

Also, when you leave your computer for a short moment. Use Win Key + L. IT basically locks the computer. So you need to 'log in' again, but all your web pages programs are still loaded in the background. This was for me mainly to stop My friends and brothers touching my computer. I hate it when they touch it, X(, Even on my 'Clean' computers.

Or use control panel -> Display -> Screensaver, set to come on after 60 seconds and require a password to unlock...

I was lucky(?) enough to have my own laptop and a lock on my door before I started going on those kinds of websites. :p

Same thing I did, except my dad had commercial software that let you wathc a computer in real time to see what you where doing and he could record what I was doing for any given amount of time, got a laptop and used my neighbours internet(he knows how to check where someone has been going through the router)....having your own computer(s) is great

Yeah, it really is. My dad wouldnt know how to check my history. Also, i am pretty computer savvy so i either hide it or delete it. Either way never been caught yet. The only thing that scares me is when he walks in while i am on a site like adisc :p I would almost jump out of my seat. (how ironic he walks in the door when i am typing this ROFL) He pretty much keeps to himself though and leaves me a alone.

Nice! Is it a particularly good computer? Because I recently got a comp in my room but it's over 10 years old, and it's stopped working already. So, back to using my parent's one. But while it lasted it was great - I felt so much more free!

I got my first computer in my room just under a year ago! Yeah... I waited a long time for it.

But I couldn't be happier. I now have absolute privacy in what I do, not to mention it's available to me anytime I want it and I don't have to share with the family. Honestly, looking back, I have absolutely no idea how I survived having to share the computer. Perhaps I'm getting so addicted to it that I can't fathom going 10 minutes without a fix. :p

I've had this computer in here since... October 2005, so nearly three years. I'm planning to build my mother a computer, as I don't want to share this for quite obvious reasons.

However I have had my own computer since I was 10.

Nahh, thats not fair.... xD

So James, you got one! Is it yours and only yours now? If it is, get your hands dirty with *cough* a fresh operating system!

I've had a computer in my room since I was 8 years old or something like that. So I can't really contribute much to this discussion, although computers these days aren't all that expensive, and second hands ones are almost for free. At times, you can pick one up when people put out their trash, and if you know a bit about computers, you can probably get it to work again.
