under free market capitalism everyone has the same shot to make something of themselves
That's completely untrue. Free market capitalism is a FAILED social experiment. We've proven that it's unsustainable and retards economic growth. Since the Victorian era, all developed countries have embraced socialist ideals.

Why are you so intent on the destruction of modern society? How would free market capitalism improve America? You haven't thought it through.

Just imagine what your life would be like if the police didn't exist, if anyone (even children) could buy heroin, fentanyl, ricin, nerve agents and bombs, all of which were advertised on TV. Imagine if anyone could work as a doctor, without training, using treatments that are medically dangerous. Imagine if the food you ate routinely contained toxic ingredients.

Would you feel safe, knowing that America had no police, no military, no border guards, no checks on immigration, just a literal "land of the free"? Do you think you could stand there by yourself, with no one to help you, and defend the whole of America from organised crime and terrorism?

He might be, in which case we really need to look and see if such is the case, and if it is, get him out of power, but he might not be, at least to the point some are making him out to be. We have to figure out, with help from each other and our own research, what is the truth/fact, what is exaggeration, what is a half-truth and what is an out and out lie. By that token, we also need to listen to each other without applying labels/at least give each other the benefit of a doubt as finding the right words, tone, etc is hard for even the smartest of us.
I feel that way base on how he speaks and tweets, nothing more. Remember the wall shutdown? Ya thats a tyrant push, that is not supposed to be our process, that is abusing technicality to get his way, while he might fulfill all the check marks to allow him to do that technically, it is defiantly not what it is supposed to be for. Also republican core belief is more local power over federal, so there is lots of reasons why he shouldn't of done it. That is just one example, the kurd thing, the Muslim ban, cages, passing disinformation on different issues that we had, etc is the reason I said what I said.

So guess what the pandora box he opened up doing that? The democrats can turn the tables and do the same thing for climate control, gun control, gobal warming and other things. IF THEY DO THAT, it would only increase the polarization further. I am very fearful what trump did to effect our future, he is so clueless and never think about the consequences and distant future impacts on his decisions.

There is if he acts like one. Wake up! PLEASE wake up.
I am awake, but I’m not an alarmist. I think many of the Republicans in Congress are putting their elections over their responsibilities because of Trump, but I’m not going to call Trump a dictator.

This isn’t a new thing. This is a tried and true method to play hardball with Congress.

It’s horrendously reactionary, and possibly bigoted, but not exactly new. Trump is very similar to Gilded age presidents.

eh? I lack knowage in this area, plus it was longer lasting then any other. The only thing I can think of that was worse was that 70 w/e fillabuster based on .... had do with segregation or something.

That was the filibuster for the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Southern Democrats had used the tactic of refusing to bring revenue bills to a vote unless the president withdrew civil rights bills for decades by that point.

If I was American and back in 2016 us election that I originally wanted Bernie Sanders to win but he lost and I didn’t like Hillary either. So I was very disappointed. For 2020 I think Bernie is getting too old (no offence) like he would be 79 1/2 by the time the next inauguration and 83 at the end of his first term. I think we should pick somebody young like Buttigieg. But again that is my opinion.

While many of the ideals are nice and utopian, I prefer to make my own decisions in life. It concerns me that there are many plans for us in the near future. Perhaps a link to https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/ will look a little less unhinged. If it could work it could be awesome, if unlikely.
I want clean air, water, etc as much as anyone.
Seems a lot of power and money could go into few hands.
I do like the idea of Michael Tellinger's Ubuntu movement.

His ideas sound great. But when you start breaking down what will Socialist cost for America for lower and Middle class it sounds like a failed idea. What do you all think of it.
I think you should be careful about saying how much it would cost for people it is you also have to look how much is it costing not having it from what I saw we have 4% tax and everyone could have health care that doesn't sound too bad I know there's a lot more than just that involved.

I don't like using the word socialism because if you think about it America is a capitalist socialist Nation. The word Socialism or socialist has a very negative stigma but when you really think about it it's not that bad especially if you have the government set up like the America if we didn't have social police, fire, and other emergency response you would have to buy insurance just in case your house burned down from a company so they would come and put it out or you would have to deal with it yourself so we are already partial socialism. I personally like how it set up where we have capitalism and socialism as long as we do not go 100% socialize. Now for socialise politician's that would cause more government corruption and that's where socialism breaks down.

Here what I am doing. Instead of getting all my facts on the news. I am talking to people who live in Socialist countries, and the older people said on Paper it does look very good. But in real life. They lost a lot, and most of them Want capitalism back.

I think that what people need to do. Talk to people who live in a socialist country and ask what they like and and what they hate and what they miss. You can also watch Youtube videos on it.

Anecdotes don’t really prove anything. I could just as easily find people from other countries talking about how much they love socialist policies.

Just for fun, here’s a video detailing various British people’s reactions to American Healthcare costs (Britain has socialized medicine):

No what people need to do, is understand what socialism is. Second off, it should be understood that the US is currently a mix of capitalist/socialist, and was in the past. During our foundation till now the US shifted more to the socialist spectrum from seeing all the abuse companies do to make more money.

If we did not use any socialist concepts we would not have the FDA, we would still be allowing food stores poison us because its cheaper. If we had no socialist concepts we would still be ruled by monopolies in the likes of the railroads. You think money on politics is bad now? Oh just wait what a pure capitalist system brings.

HERE! want to know why capitalism doesnt work?!?!
THATS WHY!~
(do note this refers to pure capitalism, as I admitted in a post earlier here you need a balance of the 2 systems, both do not work in their pure forms.)

I was late with this post so other made better one but........
All your facts on the news? What are your sources? Why dont you give some examples. Please tell me your not using venezuela as an example, coruption hurt venezuela not socialism. https://www.cnbc.com/2019/08/02/venezuela-inflation-at-10-million-percent-its-time-for-shock-therapy.html
Im not saying socialism or any system for that matter, is perfect but Iv spoken to a fee people from socialist countrys (in person) and the nay sayers didnt even seem to know what socialism ment. No system is perfect and the best we can do mix and mach. And wait, were is Bernie talking about "replacing" capitalism? Remember, unregulated capitalism is basicly modern feudalism.

Strangely, elderly people in America are adamant that they not lose anything about their socialist pension and healthcare schemes (aka Social Security and Medicare). They're not interested in the raw, unfettered capitalism of the 1920s.

Why is that?

ugh, I’m agreeing with you, mostly 🧐. It is also a form of wealth redistribution, and not all companies are bad.

And secondly, its not just the elderly where social programs are found. We have, to name a few, public schooling, Medicare, public works, arts and humanities, infrastructure, grants, and such.

then There is spending on the military apparatus and consequently, VA affairs.

very, very few companies that out out there are not exploiting something that has gray area moral grounds.
this is what companies do for the most part. You ever hear the saying "they do not make things like they used to? well this time stamp I am giving, is why. Apple with their damn iphones is really bad at this, amazon I believe has some questionable employment practices, just about everyone in the game industry is exploiting gambling , and list goes on..

I think a Bernie nomination means 4 more years of Trump.
Sadly I think you are right. We need NEW BLOOD. Vote them all out. Let's clean house. Revamp our engines and get bv a k to the basics. Buying the presidency or senator/representatives is just WRONG.

Medicare for All would save 68,000 lives a year. It would also save $450 billion a year. Or so says an article in The Lancet.

I find all this talk of socialism confusing. Socialism is public ownership of the means of production. Socialism involves government-owned farms, factories, power plants, oil fields, etc. Tax-supported fire departments, courts, and armies are not socialism. Nor is it socialist to tax people to pay for privately owned, privately operated hospitals to provide medical care.

lol, people actually defending socialism, failed economic policy. Maybe it will work this time guys.

The problem with socialism / communism is that it may be good if people didn’t behave like people. This system is easily exploited and corruptible. Lol, this guy saying Venezula didn’t fail because socialism... it was the corruption! Every damn time it is the corruption, that is the problem. It is such an easily corruptible system.

Yeah, that's the problem when people carelessly slap a label on something. We are a republic. Contrary to what many people believe, being a republic doesn't mean we aren't a democracy. In essence, "a republic is a form of government in which the country is considered a 'public matter', not the private concern or property of the rulers". This pretty much rules out socialism, but it doesn't rule out policies that might seem socialistic. It's the same with some of our institutions, such as labor unions and many churches, which are communistic in nature. They don't make us a communist country. The ongoing threat to our country is not that we will become a socialist or communist country, but that we will become a dictatorship.

the term democratic-republic is a thing. Saying we are a democratic nation implies the pure form, and this is false. Saying we are a republic is also false because it implies the pure form. Likewise, US is not a capitalist, but rather a mixed economy

I am not "defending" socialism, if you are pointing this to me or others. We are informing how the system works and why. You are correct, a pure socialist economic system is easily exploitable and corruptible, so is pure capitalism. I am dismissing and opposing both systems. What I am defending is a mixed economy and getting people to think about what the proper balance would be between the 2 concepts.

Sorry to break the bubble here but everything listed is to the socialist spectrum
Not sure the reason for the denial of what our system is. Also what you stated is "State socialism" there is different specific forms of it, but put it simply, the things you claimed that "is not socialism" has its roots in socialism and inserted into our mixed economy concept.
