Heres some updates for ya.

getting a job. (woot)
getting a car soon (woot x2)
getting ready to blow TBE away with a big sound system.

all highs replaced, all subs replaced, all car amps phased out. RCA lines phased out, external power supplies removed. All wires replaced.

A new super-subwoofer is in the room. 20hz never felt so good.
A new amplifier in the room, 1KW of juice.
All new complex crossover network, 5 way split.

magnetic sheeting protecting my monitors from the sheer power of the new magnets.

100lb of woofer.
10lb of tweeter.
15lb of midrange.
1000 watts RMS power. think you can handle it?

just 1 woofer.

I had a friend once who bought a Yaris (trashy little thing with an unsafe instrument setup). Before he even paid it off, he dropped a $1000 sound system in it. Hilarious thing was, it drew so much power that it caused voltage dips and spikes in the car's electrical system, causing the headlights to dim when the subwoofers fired and within a just few days it actually fried the car's computer chip. He had to take it back to the dealer and have them fix it (at least it was under warranty). He had to install 2 huge capacitors in the trunk just to handle the power drain.

Lessons learned:

1. It's a Yaris. It is not, and never will be, a pimpmobile. It's not cool. Get over it. You'll get a cool car some day.

2. If you buy a tiny little Japanese car with a tiny engine and alternator, it probably is not a good idea to put a huge-ass sound system in it.

3. If you DO this, make damn sure you install a capacitor so you won't be causing voltage dips and spikes.

Yeah, I picked him up and took him to class while his car was in the shop, but I SO wanted to laugh and say, "You dumb shit."

Bassheads.
There is competitions for loudest car stereo where you can win some big money.
It's a hobby.

Also, that sounds pretty sweet Jake.

Thats why im backing up my electrical system, the silly little stock 60A alt is not gonna back it up at all.

im getting 2 iraggi 300a alts dropped into it, upgrading the big three to 0/3 awg knukoncept wire. adding 4 batteries (all DC3100 white top bats)
changing the starter battery to a Kinetik HC600 (small but mighty, beats the shit out of stock bats)

and I just bought the second massive woofer.

I will drop real numbers after I get TBE up here, if these woofers are enough for ME to be impressed by them, you know they are really something.

Coolness with the sound system.

I made a promise to myself that my next car has GOT to have a decent sound system. I want one with at least 6 speakers, a bass tube, iPod, aux, and a flash drive reader.

My current jalopy (a 10-year-old Accord) has a four puny speakers, a busted tape deck, and a worn-out CD player that can't even read MP3/WMA. Heck, it can't even read rewritable discs! Egads.

On the bright side, it's paid for, heh heh.

Nah, get a diesel Volkswagen. I've got an 09 Jetta TDI that gets mid-40's, and has all the power and torque of a V8. It's also got a great 10 speaker audio system. I'm told most of the cars in Europe are diesel powered.

While I do like sound, and loud sound, I just don't get it. Besides I'm more about proper sound, output should match the orginal file/recording as close as possible. Also I would much rather put that sort of money into something like ehhh, another welder, a device that can make more money depending on the operator. Of course you're talking to a guy that just enherited a '93 Toyota pickup, no OH SH** handles, no radio, no cigarette lighter or socket, no power windows, not power steering, no passenger side mirror, no A/C, no power locks, YES power brakes (safety for a truck), YES has heat (from the engine duh), and a TWO CUP HOLDER. No but seriously its the classic first vehicle and while I would love a radio and CD for long commutes and will prolly put one in, a vehicle is an appliance. When I get older, have more money, then maybe sure, it will be about having a nice handling car. As it stands until I'm 35 money will go into education, tools, and other necessities because I know what happens after you splurge. You kick yourself all the time when you actually NEED something.

Eh I prefer clean sound versus distortion , maybe its just me . Nothing ticks me off more then someone with a loud stupidly distorted banger riding beside me , behind me or yeah anywhere near me .

my music dont distort, I know good amps from bad amps, im throwing in 2 component sets per door for the van.
oh yes, I did say van, this thread shall go on, there is something MUCH BIGGER in the works now.

1994 Chevy G20.

12 18s.
6000 watts.
8 sets of 6.5 components.

my idea is to get something that gets louder than hell, yet sounds good doing it.
a 400a alt should be plenty for it.
and 4 Deep cycle HC3100 kinetik bats (if im pulling a true 6000, I need 414.6A of current exactly, meaning electrical output is gonna lower bat power even with the alt, so I really need a second alt to add into this vehicle, maybe keep the stock and add the second for amp use.
dunno.
regardless, 12 18s should be able to do mid 150s musically.

Loudest and proudest.

I just realized something.
ya'll probably dont know the difference of the classes.

1st up is the Rattler, this is commonly drove by 17 year old black boys. also known as a box chevy.
2nd up is the Street Beater, these are the much louder cars out there, every big city has atleast 5 of these, these are known as mobile earth quakes.
3rd up is The GroundPounder, these vehicles are usually only seen at competitions, these are the loudest meanest vehicles out there, they are also backed highly with components so the music keeps up with the beat, the reason these arent common is because they are always new vehicles that arent older then the driver. These are also the ones that you see at the audio store.

my van is a class 3 ground pounder.
now to list the classes of ground pounder.
1st class ground pounder is high number high quality. these are the most expensive of them. these cars can have up to $40,000 worth of equipment in them, meaning, the first class groundpounder is usually a sponser vehicle, sometimes they arent, but it is fairly uncommon to see a non sponser class 1. These are almost always Walled vehicles.
2nd Class ground pounders are high quality 2-4 big woofer set ups, this is also usually the high power setup, Steve Meades Tahoe would be considered a 2nd class ground pounder, regardless, its still a very expensive setup.
3rd class ground pounders are high number woofer systems, they are usually backed with good components, these are the cheapest ground pounders out there, they can go for 2000$ or less.

this van might be walled, but I might do a no-wall wall.
now your probably thinking, "What the hell is a no-wall wall?"
a no-wall walled vehicle is a very big box that goes from the back of the front 2 seats to the rear doors of an SUV/Van.

I dunno if I can do a nowall wall though, 12 is pretty big area.
