Well, I saw the music thread like this, but since I don't get a whole lot of new music, I didn't really have anything to say... So I decided to make one about movies. There are still several supposedly great movies from last year I haven't seen, but of the ones I have, these are my favorites...

Somewhat unsurprisingly, there's a pretty good number of superhero movies on there... Also, quite a few comedies, which -was- surprising, at least to me, because in general, there aren't many of those that really appeal to me, usually. I'd also like to do an Honorable Mention for Wanted, which was one of the most fun movies I saw last year, though nowhere near the actual best.

10. Cloverfield / Diary of the Dead
9. Forgetting Sarah Marshall
8. The Signal
7. Hellboy 2 / Iron Man
6. Be Kind, Rewind
5. Tropic Thunder / Pineapple Express
4. The Dark Knight
3. In Bruges
2. There Will Be Blood
1. Let the Right One In

Finally, someone mentioned Sex and the City :) I'm embarrassed to say I don't think I saw even anywhere close to 10 movies in 08. Yeah, we don't get out much...

I only saw Twilight and 7 Pounds in theatres, the rest I watched online or on my pirated PPV.

I'm surprised so many people have mentioned Tropic Thunder...I didn't find it funny at all. The only funny parts to me were parts I saw in the previews before I saw the movie.

I don't know if I can rank them, but some of the ones I liked:

Cloverfield, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Iron Man, Speed Racer, Wanted, The Dark Knight, Eagle Eye, Pineapple Express, Bedtime Stories, Seven Pounds.

It probably helps somewhat that I didn't see any previews of Tropic Thunder before watching it, so it was all new to me. That, and I love Robert Downey, Jr, so that helped.

I also enjoyed X-Files. I didn't think it was nearly as good as the first movie, or as any of the movies on my list, but I liked it.

I preferred HB2 to HB1, if only because Myers wasn't in it. It was more action than character oriented, which could either be good or bad, depending on your preferences. I really enjoy them both, but I like the second a little more.

Dont like listing things, i can never argue to myself why id pick one film over another for whatever reason ^_^

But i did like, just like the most of us "The Dark Knight", but one of the most memorable experiances ive had with a movie was with REC, the original version of Quarantine. Although released in 2007, it didnt reach my part of the world until late and only got a limited release here. Dont really understand why they need to make a remake of it anyways, i guess its too hard to market a foreign movie to the american audiences. Cloverfield was another semiforgotten gem for me, but i really enjoyed it, im a big fan of the handcamera style, even though the hype was more interesting then the movie itself.

Did like Hellboy 2, and i thought the first was underrated. I really like Del toros way to work with monsters and beasts, trying to avoid the digital effect and more hands-on. And as a comic fan i really enjoyed Iron man and really like how it was made. One of the best comic movies out there, well, after Sin City.

Im a bit ashamed to say that one of the most enjoyable movies last year was Mamma Mia, i dunno if Abba is in my swedish genes, but dammit that movie made me smile!

I guess thats basicly my movieyear in review.

Cloverfield
The Dark Knight

(I'm also going to be cheeky and say REC, because although it was a 2007 film, it's remake Quarantine was released in '08...)

And because I've not even got ten, I'll say The Curious Case of Benjamin Button because even though it's not been released yet, I know I'm going to like it. :p
