I’ve wondered if any of you use armbands or floaties in some fun shape to make you feel extra little during your play in the water ?

I would like to wear swim armbands to my local pool to boost my confidence in water (I'm not a strong swimmer), but I’m scared to look too childish. Should I be worried what others will say, or give it a go ?

Personally I would go when it is quite. And it's just for adults. Explain the situation to the peole that run the swimming pool.

Then just do it.

I am going to gess that most people that are there are to focus on what they are doing than to be bother about you using arm bands.

I agree. Go during adult time. People really won't care about what you are doing. Perhaps also ask the staff if they also have other floating aids. A foam tube would be good, for example, to wrap around you.

You might find regular kids’ floaties won't fit, but there are adult floaties available online. Also, many lap pools prohibit floatation items like inflatables, however genuine swim aids like pull buoys and kickboards have always been permitted at the pools I've gone to. That said, I will echo what others have said and check first to see if they are allowed, as floaties serve no practical benefit for lap swimming. Also, if I were a lifeguard at said pool and an adult swimmer needs arm floaties, I would be hesitant to let him or her do laps or enter a deep end, since clearly he/she cannot float unassisted.

Just some food for thought, and I hope you have fun 😊

Couple weeks ago I was in the sauna, they have also pool. Evrywhere there is textile free zone. In this day there are only few people so I decide go to the pool and try to "swim". Because I can't swim I use board and tube to not go to bottom, I fell very babish by then. I think and I wish to have armbands 🤣

Well, I havent used floaties on the arm, but have used the "noodles" to float in personal pool.
I can't swim much if at all, bad leg, not good for swimming, and was never agreat swimmer.

When I used to go out in boats and such, i'd always wear life jacket, especially in a canoe.

I have a jacket with sewn on crotch straps and a head pillow and will turn you upright and floats good and high in the water as well. That said if i was going out for the day on the water seeing people i'd put the crotch straps under shorts/trunks. If maybe going into a resturaunt or bar on a lake, then in top as easier to take off without undressing.

But, I think as stated, talk to the life guard on duty and ask if that is ok. I'd think they would be grateful for the information.
They may ask you to wear a life jacket, i know that on some tours/places i've been to my ex checked the non-swimmer box and i was required to use a life jacket, if i'd have filled out the papers i'd have skipped checking that box. So, be ready they might ask you to just use a life jacket.

I'm a decent swimmer, but when me and my girlfriend want to get in the pool (we have a personal pool) and I'm feeling little, I'll put on some water wings.

Don’t forget a good reusable swim diaper if you have fecal incontinence

In my old life I was para rescue swimmer & life guard ,Water safety instructor / scuba certified ,today I couldn’t save myself let alone someone else ,pool noodles for people ! .
It’s kinda a little game I play sometimes , looking at someone and guessing what special skills they might have ,that aren’t obvious by looking at them.
