In my state of Maryland recently this guy admitted to throwing his 3 year off a bridge. I am sorry but what a sick person. He had just got out of a coma (which he caused by drinking a house cleaner) when he admitted to this. A few weeks before that this guy killed his mother 2 brothers and his dad. And this is all in one state. I wonder how many people are this sick and crazy in this world i just want to know everyones opinion on what these two people did. Oh and these people are not related n any way.

There are some parts of this world that affect the frayed enough to unweave them the rest of the way.

I believe that humans -- for they are as much animals as are lions, cats, and dogs -- also have the ability, whether induced naturally or through external means, to go "feral". Unfortunately, with this remarkable intelligence that we've been granted (through a greater power or simple science), there is a greater capacity for deterioration, too. It's the same idea behind, "the higher you are, the harder you fall".

Animals commit no crimes, for their "lack" of intelligence (and I say that because I don't think they aren't intelligent, I just think that they express it in different ways) keeps them within instinctual standards. As a human race, we've reached so far away from our instinctual roots that when -- even in such horrific ways as this -- they come back to us, we answer wrongly. We do horrible things.

I don't truly believe that people of this sort can be rehabilitated, unfortunately. Attempts can be made, but when you've gone to this measure, there's scarcely any turning back.

I could tell you the same about my country, when on the news it's not so uncommon to see people that murder their neighbors/family/etc... some years ago there was the case of a girl that with her boyfriend murdered her little brother, or there's a case (still open) of a mother who's suspected of having murdered her baby.

What's worse, in the meantime all through the world there's a significant amount of armed conflicts going on, with the consequent bloodshed, and that's not any less terrible than a single person murdering another... or, to be correct, that's even WORSE if you think conflicts are not a passional murder committed on the rage of the moment, but an accurately planned strategy of death (although, for how surprising it can be, thousands of victims in a country thousands of miles far away seem always to be less terrible than the guy next door murdering his son... I've honestly given up trying to understand that).

My grandma always says it's a different world from the one she was raised into... my opinion is that what's different now is that we have mass communication means. In every society, in every historical time, there have been such kind of people (in the past maybe even more). The only difference is that now everyone KNOWS about what happens (TV news programs and newspapers have their business over making a show on everything that happens, the bloodier the better).

God I love you Quattrus, you said nearly everything that straight away popped into my head. The media makes the world scary and Africa is worse then anything you'll ever see on the news. Over 1600 people dying everyday as a result of conflict (starvation caused by conflict) every day. And that's only in the Congo. Don't ever start on the rest of them.

But that man throwing his 3 yr old off the bridge... Hate hearing stuff like that. But someone has to be mentally ill or just deserve death to do something like that. Here's a puzzle, a good family man who dearly loves his children, takes them to sports, goes to their school productions and plays with them after work for an hour or so gets a divorce. Over the next few weeks he changes and then you see on the news "Man murders his children."
This you see at least once every 2 years or so. A seemingly good man suddenly kills his children and himself. Why? It's usually that when his wife divorces him, which devastates them first and they usually don't see coming, and then they go to court, they lose everything they love in the world and they go temporarily insane.
So to the idea that these people can't be rehabilitated, yes I think it's possible if it's not just someone who has been that way all their life but it's a temporary insanity.

The world can be crap sometimes and watching the real news, (not commercial crap) always makes me angry and sad.. without fail.
Commercial news is just good comedy.

There certainly are a lot of people out on the streets who really need some degree of mental help. The sad part is when they actually are displaying warning signs that something isn't right in their mind, yet no one around the person cares enough to pick up on it or read the signs. Now, there's yet another campus massacre out in Illinois with several students killed and the shooter commiting suicide afterwards. From what little I've read, he was on some kind of medication but stopped taking it? Then he started acting very irratic? Anyone else hear or read the whole story behind the tragedy? So very sad......:frown:

It's all very tragic indeed...

but think of it this way... what if all those people lived? The planet would be overpopulated so fast that we wouldn't know what to do.

It's a sad thing... but a certain number of people need to die every day to keep things in check.

No it wouldn't. The people killed in these shootings and random killings are insignificant compared to people killed accidentally everyday. More children under the age of 5 are killed by every day accidents, such as drowning or falling, then from AIDS and war. More people are killed from cigarettes in Australia then alcohol, illegal drugs, car accidents and murders combined.
Letting people die wouldn't stop overpopulation. Condoms stop over population. :)

No, condoms won't help if you don't know how to use the damned things, I hear in Africa, some group handed out a whole bunch of condoms to an area, and most of them just used them as a shower cap.

So education stops overpopulation......

Actually, we are not like any other animal. All animals go by the same way of life when it comes to their 'own kind' and that is preserving life. We on the other hand openly kill each other...there for we are very unique...and that is what makes us the dominant animal! See...it's simple!

The only reason the world is overpopulated is China's 1.5 billion or so people. No offense to the Chinese.

You forget about India. 1 billion people.

China is going ot be screwed in about 20 years. Due to it's 1 child policy there's going to be huge old people to young ratio, meaning their economy is going to pull back and they're going to burden their children heaps. Lucky they have next to no social services so it doesn't hurt their country directly :).
Don't forget that America has what... 200 mil, England 200mil... and the US is a young country... recently settled. It's expanded as fast or faster then China. China was 200 million in the 1700-1800s.

I think your numbers are far off here:

England - 200 million people? Sorry to all the British members - King Aidy I says that y'all must share your bed with 3 other people (probably Indian or Polish) from now on. The population of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is 60,587,300 in mid 2006, according to Wikipedia.

The United States of America, on the other hand, supposedly have 303,393,000 inhabitants (2008 estimate according to Wikipedia).

And if you're looking for the country with the most inhabitants in Europe...ermm...*raises hand* right here! 82,210,000 people (2007 estimate).

Compare to Australia with your 21,200,000 people (2008 estimate, Wikipedia)...and God knows how many roos. :tongueout:

Of course that's all just a piss in the ocean compared to China or India.

i came to an epiphany of sorts of how war or social conflicts abroad affects us (or lack thereof). it happened after i was watching V for Vendetta and right after i was like "i wonder what would happen if we were attacked again, but locally?" just some random stray thought that i usually have. well after i closed my eyes for what seemed 12 minutes (happend to be an hour) at around 3 in the morning a huge explosion happened outside. previous to that explosion i felt the ground lifting and just thought of it as an earthquake since it's so common in massachusetts *sarcasm* (i used to live in san diego, give me some credit).
well long story short, a volatile paint sealer company that has been around for a good while without any real inspection (and also nestled in a heavily residential area) blew up. and when i say blow up i mean nearly level. it was about this time two years ago, i think and i just remember running out and seeing the right side across the water on fire. if you guys think i should go on about it i'll post an off topic thread, i can feel this getting longer.
i told you all that to just say that being 'attacked' is a scary thing to go through. you go into animal instincts type of survival mode. i know i made sure the kids and my fiance were ok and making sure any fires or other damages were supressed. thus i went on to check neighbors and such and then cued up emergency net.

as far as nonsensical killings and murders go it always brings me back to this one statement by my social psychology teacher: "everyone is a murderer/serial killer/etc. because everyone walks that fine line between sane and insane." everyone has their limits, you just need to find that specific on to make said individual disconnect, if you will.

In the end, these crimes may be the result of a mentaly ill person, into which cause they may not be in control of their actions, so they can't be completely to blame.

Im a sceptic, so I'd need to know all the facts before I commit to a judgement, no doubt that its an awful situation though.

I fell this is related now cops even have gone off the deep end have you all seen Baltimore cop vs skateboarder on youtube. This cop assaults a skateboarder for calling him "dude" so that is just another example of how bad this world is getting as for overpopulation I think the peach is right. Wiki said that Asian population is over 3 billion. But the American population that the peach gave was all of north American i think. Not U.S. like people think he meant.

Nope, it's 300M for the US, according to the US Census Bureau:

And it keeps going up. Take a cold shower once in a while, people!

No, I think you are mistaken, I know there are other species that kill eachother and even cannabalize. I know that a lot of marine animals do, like squids and sharks. I know for a fact the grizzly bears eat black bears if there is no easier prey (saw that on discovery yestterday), I think grizzlys might even eat their cubs if they are starving, if I remember hearing right from discovery.

Anyways yes I agree there are many sick people out there, more so in this age than ever. Of course there has always been murders and rapists but it seems they are becoming more and more groosem and prevelant all the time. I watched a documentary that I think it was CNN had on mentally ill people of the prision systems in America. How a lot of severe mentally ill people are being thrown into prisions because of the low amount of mental instituitions in America compared to how many crazies there actually are. All these people mentally ill people being thrown in jail, are usually not treated the way they need to be and not only that but putting other non violent jail mates in unnessacary danger.

Genbaby I never heard of these people and I am in Maryland, then again I never watch the news much, but I beleive it and it defiantly does not surprise me in the least bit.

You don't have to be crazy to do crazy stuff. The fine line between sane and insane as someone put it. Terrorists, suicide bombers specifically, are proven to usually be very balanced people in their minds and it's just the misinformation that gets them to kill people.

Sorry about not checking the populations first. Feel stupid for not using facts :).

1 in 10 Australian inmates have a learning difficulty such as dyslexia when only 1 in 20 have one. That shows how education is failing the minorities causing criminals.

And there is something the average person can do. I've said this before but GOD THAT PISSES ME OFF. People get so scared from all the bad things that happen on the news that they feel helpless to stop any of it or help in some way. You don't have to change the world to help. Think of this... fund one kid in Africa and you have definitely not changed the world but you have changed THEIR world.
Volunteer somewhere and no-one will ever know who you are but the people you help will always remember you. One of the volunteers in our hockey competition can't walk through town without everyone greeting her for what she does at the hockey and I get my fair share too.
There's hundreds and thousands of volunteer programs you can get involved in to change a teeny tiny part of the world and this all adds up. My favourite is the Big Brother Big Sister Program. 1 person takes 1 person around and gives them a positive experience every week for a year or more. This person is usually disadvantaged in some way, socio-ecomically, divorced parents, bad social skills, etc. Kids in this program have 80% less chance of hitting someone and 60% less chance of ending up in jail even though they come from a very hard done by background.
That's 1 person.

So yes, there is something the average person can do if only people would see that.
