I've recently been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and am having my prostate removed. I've heard from various folk that it causes inconcontinance and am wondering how many people have suffered with this and for how long does it last and is it curable?

This page says the rate of urinary incontinence from prostate removal is 6-8%, and that a certain (unspecified) portion of those cases are treatable.

About to make this decision. Going through a final consult (and I'm sure, yet another delightful series of 'Exams', oh joy).
If removing the damned thing will end the misery I'm living with?
I already deal with being IC, so hell, that's not even an issue.
I will admit, the chance of losing my ability to play with my 'Special Purpose' would be a downer, but then, I'm a widower, older'n dirt and not looking for another relationship anyways. Not really much of a loss, that.

My brother had it done last year, he is fine, not IC. His cancer has spread but IC is the least of his worries.

I had a prostatectomy in 2004 at age 59. I was completely incontinent for a month or so, then went to pads for 6 months after which I dried up.
I still have stress incontinence but only have to wear very thin pads. I use a larger pad when I exercise and ride my bike.
Go to an incontinence therapy specialist and learn how to properly do Kegals, then do them. Also talk to you doctor about using Viagra or Cialis before and after surgery along with a penis pump to avoid scar tissue. No one told me about this and I have ED problems and lost about an inch of length. Good luck
