First off, welcome. As a fellow IC only I'm particularly hopeful I can help you. I would suggest a variety pack from HDIs hdis.com
with that you will get a dozen different diapers that you can sample. Some are dogshit, but others are great. It will give you a benchmark to which you can learn what works for you. It's only 13 dollars with shipping included.
Unfortunately the chances of finding a good diaper for cheap are small. The best deal I know of is 66 dollars for a case of 96 Tranquility ATN's on Amazon. I love those personally.
I wish you the best of luck and hope I was helpful.

Ac medical is a good source for diaper covers. I recommend a few pair of the rubber covers. Quiets every thing down and IMO helps with any pin hole leaks

Welcome to the forums here, wcarhope!

Several of us here have been dealing with incontinence for a long time and learned the best products for our needs and what products really don't work. The suggestion of getting sample packs from places like XP Medical (the owner, Gary, is incontinent and understands quite well) or HDIS is an excellent one. What you will need to do is figure out what you really need in terms of protection level, absorbency, etc. and then adjust your product needs appropriately.

One thing to remember as you go through many of the products in the sample packs is that the better products (also higher priced) can also be the most economical. For me, I could use Depends that I order online or buy at my local store at a rough cost of $1 per diaper, or order online premium diapers from XP Medical for $1.40 per diaper. One might think it would be more economical to use the store bought product, the truth is that I would need twice as many of them per day to meet my needs as I do the higher end product. I actually save money by buying more expensive diapers.

While the incontinence forum here may not be the most active, even perusing the Diaper Talk forum is worthwhile. Many of us who have lived with incontinence from younger ages have decided to try and have some fun with it and are not bothered by the fact that many on this site wear for enjoyment. Those who wear for enjoyment also can have good opinions, feel free to look around and discuss with others your needs. This place is by far the most mature forum I have seen with regard to discussing things I have found.

wcarhope123,

Hi, I'm JD. I am bowel incontinent. I can recommend the new Wellness Signature Superio diapers. These are a plastic-backed diaper. I have conducted extensive testing on these diapers, particularly for fecal incontinence. They have very high gutter guards and leg gathers. Absorbency also is high, surprisingly so. Fecal containment is excellent.

You order these directly from Unique Wellness company. If you register, they will email you a periodic discount coupon.

Please note that these are a completely new diaper. The original Wellness diaper (with green plastic shell) received a lot of criticism and is not recommended.

Best wishes,
--JD

Welcome to the forums. One diaper that is very popular is the Tena Slip Maxi. (It is the one I use.) It is a thin but highly absorbent diaper that rivals the thickest and bulkiest for what it can handle. There are many places online where it is available. As with all high quality diapers, it is not cheap, but then you do not need to change it as often and can get away with two or three wettings, sometimes more, as it wicks the moisture away from your body very well. Whatever you choose, good luck. It's never an easy road, but at least you've found a place with friendly people who can be helpful if you need advice.

Sorry you have to join the ranks of the IC. I've been doing this for a very long time.
I can tell you now what you choose will be up to you and what fits your needs and lifestyle.
I use Tranquility ATN and Plastic pants. For me this is the right combination of protection and price.
The diapers come from here
Adult Disposable Incontinence Diapers & Overnight Briefs By Tranquility
Call Sharon and she will probably supply you with a sample. A case is shipped in plain wrapping and the one time I had a problem (my Fault) I called her and she bent over backwards to make it right.
The plastic pants I use are
Leakmaster Deluxe Heavy Weight Vinyl Pants - AdultClothDiaper.Com
These are thicker than most but work well for my active life style.
I also have had no problems ordering from this company.

like others have said, especially if you are looking at this long term, you might find the more expensive diapers are cheaper to run.
If I were stuck with Depends, I'd be looking at a monthly diaper bill more than double my current.

Alot of this goes with your needs, If you are bowel incontinent, the cheapest diaper sold might actually be cheaper to run for you due to the need for frequent changes (keep in mind containment). If you are bladder incontinent, the premium brands generally work better, allowing for a mix of diapers for your daily needs. Being bladder incontinent, I usually use a heavy disposable diaper during the day at work, with a mid grade absorbancy as a backup, and switch to cloth on the evenings, nights, and weekends i'm home to keep my costs down, it adds quite a bit to the laundry though ~$1/day with additional water($.02), energy($.14), detergent($.08) and sewer($.76?! local issue) for about 3~5 diapers/day I usually use, one Abena M4, sometimes one Abena M2 as a backup, one cloth diaper w/o stuffer for the evening, and one cloth diaper with stuffer for the night. Weekends, I generally use 4~5 cloth diapers with stuffers on 3 of em.

I suggest you look at XPmedical's website for excellent diaper reviews that will help you order for your needs, like above, I also recommend ordering a variety pack to help figure out which brands/models fit your needs best, I've found through trial and in one case, a VERY expensive error, that Your comfort comes prime, and even the best diaper on the market may not be the best for you.

After all, who wants to be stuck in something all day, day after day in something that feels nasty, leaks inappropriately, or gratuitously gives you rashes.

Hi you can always go with the washable types either all in ones thats soakable layer with waterproof outer which i prefer for daytimes more or terry square traditional type but versatile or pre fold or shaped type or even single/double layer terry pants which wear plastic/rubber pants over the ones like shaped/pocket types you can add to depending on amount go and how long you like to sleep for?
I prefer the wrap round/pocket type as easy to wear but all are good for night times as need more side cover but also they absorb better than throw away over night and pants give you a last line of defence so to speak but with them allows you more move ability as constant cover.
theres many sites/sellers esp in usa. Fetware.llmedico.loving comfort.they do a whole range for night or daytimes.
For bowel problems you can use a liner which keeps it away from soak so can just put liner in bin.
the worlds your oyster so to speak you just have to work out your needs/amount you go and time you like to stay dry/comfortable but you can go with various levels so fit in with your needs as if going out for 1/2 hour you wouldn't need to wear something that made you look like sumo man but if say on a sat night you have had a few drinks say and would like a lay in something that was quite bulky would be perfect.
Myself i rarely use disposables unless for little while as find they make me itch like mad as irritate my skin as always drawing moisture.

There are other products you can use also now like the Afex system which i didn't get on with being as i get very little feel it's filling up/full then just say's need to go "now" so can be alot in a short time and that couldn't deal with that but for others could be fine if going small amounts.
Theres the condom catheters which use with leg bags great till slide down your leg or you can't put daft thing on properly when like me have hand problems with lack of feel/control but many get on with them ok.

Or there's the Foley/indwelling catheter which i use when need to! have on prescription i like the Bard bio cath latex with a coating which makes it very supple and comfortable have in 16fr did have a silicone one but they feel harder and can be more prone to bypass.
Myself im quite happy with using an indwelling catheter as sometimes pads get in the way/noticeable like wearing trousers etc where as having a foley with a valve (Bard flip-flo) which joins onto end of catheter then becomes your point of bladder control then if need to can go with a leg bag or just use on it's own or like me use a Rusch belly bag which are about the best of your bladder as lets the bladder empty it's self as leg bags esp if long tube cause trauma to bladder walls with syphon/suction just like when you pull plug on bath that pulls bladder wall into drainage eyes of catheter but if your sensible can avoid it too much one thing is if using a night bag 2liters+ is to have it at mattress height so stops syphoning and allows bladder to push it out so better nights sleep.

Many try to give horror stories about them but if treated well and looked after are ok as just treat as another tool in your box as they all will give you problems whatever method you go with unless your sensible and look after yourself It's something you have to work out for yourself what works and how well it works for you as wearing a diaper can give you some nasty infections if not treated well esp if have illnesses.

For me the way i look at it i have a few options to go with bit like a wardrobe so can choose what i need or how i am feeling as sometimes just pants with built in pad are ok and other times need a lot more i have my supply of catheter equipment at home and insert myself and gone long times without infections when using.(The inco nurse had meeting with other week asked who put them in when i said i did she said your brave to which i said if i can build my own car and rewire the whole thing along with build engine and gearbox and tune engine and suspension along with sewing/knitting/darning/plumbing/electrics/woodwork/welding and lots more im sure i can manage that plus said if do your self only your own bacteria present so lessen infection risks to which she said correct) I have studied much about Inco problems as very open minded and methodical with workings.

So just hope we can be of some help to you and feel free to ask if need anything.
