Remember when Sesame Street had not been commercialized yet... and it was cool and entertaining... And at times psychedelic, and no more so than the pinball sequence?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgocE-JfWFI

I am showing my age... this is the stuff I grew up with :) Rocket Robin Hood... Made in Canada! '67-'69... This is what you parents watched in grade school (if they were lucky!)

Avery and Raccoon, you must have posted those b&w vids for me! :D Those are some of the cartoons I grew up with in the '50s. Some were so old, even then, that the characters didn't even talk. They just made squeaky sounds at each other. But, by their gestures, facial expressions, and tone of their squeaky sounds you knew pretty much what they were saying.

Here's a few I remember watching from mid-50s to early 60s:

Heckle & Jeckle (they were two magpies always getting into mischief)
Looney Tones (they've been around forever LOL)
Popeye
Mickey Mouse and other Walt Disney cartoon characters
Woody Woodpecker
Quick Draw Mcgraw
Top Cat
Jetsons
Beanie & Cecil
Flintstones (first aired on Friday evenings at 8:30pm and geared more for an adult audience)
Yogi Bear
Astro Boy (early Japanese anime first aired around the 1960 to 1962 period, and had nearly identical characters as the newer version from what I remember)

Always looked forward to Saturday morning to watch 'toons!

I remember most of these cartoons...Rocket Robin Hoooooood! *loved the theme song from that one*, Astro Boy (who couldn't love such a lil cutie...I've only ever seen the Canadian dubbed version tho'), Popeye, Bugs Bunny and all the other Warner Brothers cartoons, Flintstones (of course!) and Jetsons and the other Hanna-Barbera cartoons (Huckleberry Hound, Yogi Bear, etc). Oh yeah, and Hercules (really bad animation), and, of course, Spiderman and Superman!

Of course, my kids watched other stuff...Carebears, My Little Pony, Smurfs, Babar...

Thanks for jogging my memeory, Ayanna! Huckleberry Hound.....that's one I was trying to remember. lol Hercules.....isn't that the cartoon with the half horse/half man (know what they're called, but can't get the spelling right) named Newton?

My daughter loved My Little Pony and Barney. I kinda liked MLP myself. :D

Half horse/half man is a centaur...I'm not sure I remember Newton....I do, however, remember the satyr "Toot" (or Tewt) who was the most annoying creature in the known universe..."Right, Herc! Right, Herc!"

For you, Prammy...the opening sequence of "The Mighty Hercules"...

And who remembers Quick Draw McGraw?

THAT'S the character! Now where in the world did I get Newton from? Yeah, that character got on my nerves and I sooooo wanted to hear Herc tell him, just one time, to "buzz off!!!"

Thanks for the *blast from the past* video. I had completely forgotten how the show would begin. Guess I didn't watch enough episodes.....

I just LOVE ovide... too bad you can't really find episodes of that anymore :(

ovide:

Hahah I used to loooove Ovide. I still have a VHS tape filled with the show (and some hilarious commercials from the mid-90's)

I used to watch ALOT of tv growing up. I remember all the psychadelic stuff from sesame street, 3-2-1 contact....you know, I think this is like the 3rd thread here that I've named off TV shows I used to watch, so let's just say there's alot of 'em :p

Nope, you're right, it was Newton.

There are some old shows that I think were pretty amazing and stand the test of time (most anything Warner Brothers, Popeye and Max Fleisher Superman for technical quality, Speed Racer and Jonny Quest for style and content), but this one only works as notalgia. Just awful! Neat to see it again, though. It did make an impact, too. As soon as I thought of that song, I remembered Johnny Nash in the credits for it, which is obviously not a name I'd thought of in many years.

Satyrs are half goats... Y_Y
And the point would be?

Nope, you're right, it was Newton.
Newton apparently was a centaur friend of Hercules...in some of the earliest episodes...but the annoying lil "Right, Herc! Right, Herc!" character was a satyr (or faun) named Toot.

I admit I haven't seen EVERY episode, but no one who's seen any of the later ones could ever forget that freakin' Toot character!
