Looking to buy diapers for first time!

Hey everyone! I’ve only been a member here for a very short time now and I was wondering what kind of diapers to buy. I still live with my parents so ordering them offline is kinda off the table! But I can probably go to the store to get some. If anyone can recommend any first diapers (for use!) it would be really appreciated!

I absolutely LOVE my Goodnites L-XL pull ups! I’ve heard Little For Big has really nice diapers and you can buy a sample pack of 2 if you don’t want to commit to a case full. Oh also their packaging is super discreet btw but if your parents open your mail like mine did then you’ll definitely want to be home so your parents don’t open the package before you do.

Look at your locally owned independent pharmacy. They will have low cost diapers and they sell boosters, too. Or places like Walgreens sell 40 packs of diapers for cheap. Have a car? Leave your stuff there til your parents are out (or asleep) and sneak stuff in. Get in the habit of carrying around a backpack. I’m an artist/writer and sometimes wear diapers so nobody thinks I’m weird for carrying my bag around.

You're probably not gonna want to hear this, but store bought brands will not make for a good first time experience

Take it from someone who was in your shoes years ago, store-bought brands suck, you'll likely be limited to Depends or no-name brands and they barely absorb even a trickle of urine and are about as thick as a napkin. I bought a pack of Depends in my teens and the experience was so bad, so not what I was expecting or wanted to expect that I was willing to never bother with diapers and AB stuff again until I moved out on my own

Fortunately for me, a medical supply store opened very near my house and I was able to experience awesome medical brands like Abena and Molicare as a teen, but that's not a luxury that everyone is going to have.

So, be forewarned, you can buy some depends, but be prepared to use half a pack to get the thickness you want and even then, they won't absorb anything

If ordering online is a no-go, I would suggest doing a web search to see if there are any medical supply stores near you. Who knows, you may be lucky, maybe theres a medical supply store with high-end brands a walk or a bus ride away, but the only way to know is to get searching

Yeah thanks for the advice Poofybutt! I’ve seen that store bought aren’t the best but my options as of now are pretty limited. But I will definitely not stop looking for other stores to buy from! Many thanks!

No problem! My only note is be careful when putting on the Goodnites! I ripped 2 by putting them on too fast when I had slightly wet legs from the shower! I almost cried lol.

Some online stores allow you to have packages sent to other locations for pickup. See this recent thread from Northshorecare:

Before I told my wife, I bought from Walmart app with store pickup. If you don’t have a credit card or your parents see your statement, you can use a Walmart gift card, which you can buy at a Walmart store with cash. Not everything has store pickup, but you can get Abena Abri-form which are way better than store brands.

I'm afraid online is the way to buy, that way you know the brand and can always ask for advice on here of course. Could you get a discreet parcel delivered to a friends house? Seriously store bought are usually poor quality unless you have a Specialist disabled shop near you that deals with people with IC and even then unless you buy a good quality nappy you are going to have problems.
