Known for his haunting, gravelly voice and poetic words, Cohen had a history of hits, either on his own or recorded by other artists. Among his best known songs are Hallelujah, , Suzanne, Like a Bird on the Wire, So Long, Marianne.

He released his last album just weeks ago, and he was still performing to sellout crowds and bringing in new generations of fans at a time when most people would have retired to reflect on their accomplishments.

kd lang recorded the definitive version of Cohen's Hallelujah, and I can think of no better song to remember him by.

Heard that this am on the radio "Susan" was huge when I was in college. It even got played at Mass now and then (Catholic college... the Sunday night service was known as "the Magic Show".... "Hey, did you go this morning?" "Nah, got up late, I'll go to the Magic Show")

I couldn't decide between this one or "closing time"... I went ahead with this one...

Terrible news for the world, another good person gone.

He has my thanks for his incredible music and very wise and confronting views on just trying to live ethically in the world .

I think I've heard many of his songs song by other singers like Judy Collins. He was more than a song writer, but rather, a great poet and artist.

It is very sad indeed. His music has helped me be more contemplative, to reflect on life (good and bad points). His voice was mesmorizing and haunting, as were his songs and poems. Now, it feels like the world has cracked, but as that wise old man once said, "There is a crack in everything; that's how the light gets in!"

So long Leonard Cohen and thank you for all you've given us!
