I can't really put up much of a debate right now, seeing as its midnight, so I'll just tell you to read this. Lets see how long this will last.

I don't really support the use of marijuana specifically, but I do think it's pretty dumb for it to be illegal. It's just a huge waste of money for it to be illegal and people still find ways to get the stuff anyway.

I think Marijuana should be legalize. The reason why is because of all the illegal drugs out there, marijuana is the less dangerous. Hell it less dangerous then alcohol and cigarettes which are legal. Marijuana is just a pant that came for the earth, nothing more and nothing less while cigarettes is tobacco (another pant that came from the earth) and 100 other ingredients added to it. So what you rather smoke, pot or cigarettes, the choice should be clear by now.

Some good thing about legalize Marijuana is that there well be less people in jail/prison and probably less drug crimes too. Also legalize it might actually help our economy in a good way, because you have new jobs and the government well be able to taxes it too. Hell I already know shop that sell bong and pipe for "tobacco uses" but we all know that people uses them to smoke pot with so why not legalize it. It probably do more good then harm.

Also check out the link that Diaperdude give you in his post. It make some more good points on why we should legalize Marijuana.

Legalized or not, I'd lose my job at the nuclear plant for using marijuana. Fitness for duty policies at a federal level prohibit nuke plant workers having unescorted access from using marijuana along with other drugs currently illegal, even legal drugs like Tylenol w/codeine if not prescribed for you. Legalization wouldn't change the fed's stance in workplaces that are more sensitive, and I really doubt any businesses which currently have drug testing for marijuana and other substances would change and allow it's use.

If salvia is legal, I don't understand how weed is not AT THE LEAST legalized for medical.

I believe that it should be legalized for medical at the least because it helps people who are suffering from diseases that make them not want to eat, or to throw up. Or make them feel pain.

but I do believe that some doctors give out "club cards" a little too easily.

Smoking Pot has more tar in it.

If tobacco is legal, there has to be a mountain load of arguments for pot to not be legal. Tobacco has a proven link to kill you, and those around you. How is that worse than a plant that has some medicinal benefits, and makes you completely unable to make good decisions for a night?

Basically, legalize it, but also regulate it. I don't think people that are high should me able to drive a car for example. People who have certain jobs should also not smoke, this being at the discretion of a private company who can hire who ever the hell they want to hire.

Is this going to happen, most likely not.

In the link you provided, point number 24:

Marijuana does not impair your ability to drive as much as alcohol, however operating machinery, driving, and using power tools isn't a good idea while using the plant.

This was what I was referring to, not so much as decisions, but putting people in an altered state of mind and giving them a car.

Wow. Being completely unable to make good decisions and being unable to use electricle equipment are two very, very, very different things.

Government can always tax it; they need the revenue.
True they can tax it but government does not nee ANY more money from us they need to learn to use what they got, not what they don't have. Anyways that's a different matter.

I do not support Marijuana becoming legal at all. That's all I am going to actually say about this since I been over this thing many times with people. I am sure you can find my views on it somewhere here in the past drug topics.

The title (of the blog) misspells 'marijuana'. Not the best start.
101 Reasons to legalize marijauna

1 Marijuana grows naturally. Making something that is natural illegal is unnatural.
Terrible argument. Rape is natural too. Unnatural isn't necessarily bad is it? Lots of bad things are argued to be natural too.
2 Marijuana is discriminated against by legislators that are too scared of being referred to as a druggie. Legislators won’t stand up for what they believe in, only the self interest of the corporations they represent.
This one is good, and is a basic problem of the system really.
3 Marijuana does not cause death.
Source? There are negative effects to marijuana, people HAVE died driving whilst high.
4 Marijuana’s active ingredient THC is less toxic than nicotine.
Probably is, but that really doesn't mean anything to me. It's less toxic, so what? That's not why it's not legal.
5 Marijuana is not addictive.
True (although arguably pretty much anything can be addictive, but it's not chemically addictive).
6 Marijuana can be used to make hemp and other products such as paper (no more tree chopping) clothing, and rope. We can also make marijuana oil which can be used as a renewable fuel.
Aww come on. That's why you want it legalised?
Anyway yes, you can have this, but this doesn't imply that it's okay it smoke the stuff.
7 Legalizing marijuana will cause a sudden drop in need for beer. Wine won’t be affected as much as beer. Beer consumption will plummet.
Because beer is bad?
Also: source?
8 There are more people in jail for drugs then there are other criminals.
America's desire to actually care about the drug is pretty silly IMO, so yes I think this is a fair point. Although the point in itself sucks: if most criminals were rapists would you want to set them free?
9 Marijuana is an issue of public health, not the police.
Says you.
10 Billions of dollars are spent on the war on drugs each year. IT destroy families and ruins lives.
Again, I sort of agree, but the point still sucks: some things are worth spending money on! (Although I happen to agree that spending it on the 'war on drugs' is probably a bit of a waste).
11 Marijuana being legal will cause a sudden drop in using other harder drugs such as methamphetamines, barbiturates, heroin, alcohol and cocaine.
Source?
I find that most people use whatever drugs they want to. I can't imagine people saying "wow, weed is legal now, lets stop taking heroin! Finally!".
12 Alcohol and cigarettes kill more people a year than war.
Therefore [enter anything that kills less people than war here]should be legalised? Who wrote this?!
13 People still drink and smoke regardless of the warnings.
Some people don't, because of the warnings.
14 Teenagers and children are lied to about marijuana by uninformed uneducated parents and propaganda.
True. Not a reason to legalise, but a reason to spread truth.
15 anti marijuana legislation and TV propaganda are funded by the lobbyists that have interest in alcohol and timber.
Awesome. Not really an argument for legalisation, but a fair point.
16 cultivating marijuana will cause a spike in economic growth for more and more plantations of marijuana.
Meh. I can't believe I'm only at 16.
17 the cultivation of marijuana will create jobs for low income families.
Source?
18 the price of marijuana will plummet form 100 an ounce to 5 dollars an ounce
How big is an ounce? $100 sounds pretty steep. Also: source? And wouldn't a decrease in price be true of lots of other drugs too?
19 The US government is losing billions in tax revenue.
Fine, that is a point.
20 The US has more people in prison than any other country
That... isn't even a point. So what?
21 The US is a few trillion dollars in debt
Slightly irrelevant. And I say this is just a copy of 19.
22 Marijuana can help HIV victims eat and sleep.
Make it legal just for them?
23 Marijuana can reverse the effects of crystal meth by making the person hungry and tired.
If you've got hold of crystal meth... why are you struggling to get weed?
24 Marijuana does not impair your ability to drive as much as alcohol, however operating machinery driving and using power tools isn’t a good idea while using the plant.
I still wouldn't recommend driving, I wouldn't trust myself to.
25 Congress was lied to by yellow journalism
No idea what this means.
26 Marijuana is legal in Amsterdam and is on the way of being legal in Canada. Both countries have far less crime than the US.
Therefore America should legalise it and so have crime rates lower? Amsterdam isn't a country either, just for future reference.
If you make any crime that gets prosecutions legal, all other things being equal, the crime will drop. That's true of any crime! Make murder legal and you'll get less crime!
27 Marijuana can be fermented into alcohol which burns cleaner than oil.
Wasn't something like this said earlier?
28 Africa can be the world’s largest supplier of hemp.
Good for it.
29 The US can spend the tax dollars generated by marijuana to fund a universal public health care system
Nope, sorry, you already used the 'tax weed' thing. I won't get into medical expenses caused by marijuana use.
30 Treatment of marijuana should increase instead of sending people to jail.
Fair enough, not really an argument for making it legal though!
31 Mandatory minimum sentences should be outlawed. MMS only hurt the innocent while protecting the self interest of corporations.
Fair enough, not really an argument for making it legal though!
32 Marijuana grows in the privacy of peoples homes ?
Domestic abuse happens in the privacy of people's homes. Please use apostrophes where needed.
33 Marijuana’s fibers are an economical god send.[/quote
You've said this! Cheat! Cheat!
34 Marijuana use is in the bible. Genesis gave mankind the power over every land, sea, and animal. Not to mention every seed bearing plant. (Marijuana is a seed bearing plant)
Not relevant to non-Christians.
35 Marijuana is not a gateway drug.
Source? And who cares? Neither is cocaine or heroin.
36 Marijuana does not cause cancer
Neither does rape. These aren't reasons for legalising!
37 Tobacco users will still get their nicotine from cigarettes.
Fantastic.
38 By definition, Nicotine, Aspirin, Alcohol and THC are drugs. There are more drug users then there are non drug users.
This was written by a child!
39 Marijuana and alcohol cause short term memory loss. Alcohol destroys your liver, THC doesn’t.
Alcohol is cool, in moderation, you're liver should be fine unless you're abusing it.
40 Marijuana can be used to help alleviate pain and suffering humanely.
We had something like this before.
41 People who don’t want marijuana legal have a drug of choice.
You can't opt-out of the effect it will have on society.
42 No one cares about other peoples problems.
And so weed should be legalised. (?!)
43 Your teenager will try marijuana no matter what you do.
What parent is still reading this? And no, not all teens try it.
44 Your teen has a better chance of dieing from alcohol or becoming pregnant then they do messing up their lives form marijuana.
'Dying'. Same goes for being murdered probably?
45 using marijuana does not support terrorism.
WTF?
46 Jamestown, Virginia had a law enacted stating that framers shall produce marijuana and sow the seeds everywhere.

47 Jamestown, Virginia was created 20 years before the Puritans sailed to New England.
Yes yes, everyone hates the Puritans.
48 It is human nature to seek pleasure.
I might kill you. I could rights essays and essays about this, and why this is such a stupid thing to say in this context.
This is disgraceful, and I'm not even half way through yet!
49 There are more people using marijuana than people know.
And...
50 Marijuana is used in world religions. Jesus Christ himself used the plant.
Source?
51 Christians don’t know Jesus was a stoner.
They do now. Thank you random child!
52 It is a plant. It is no more harmful than dandelions.
A tree is a plant. Ever been hit by a tree? Huh?
It hurts.
53 There are anti marijuana commercials but never commercials for anti drinking nor are their commercials for anti cocaine.
Do you not watch TV?
54 Cigarette companies are putting more nicotine in their products since more and more people are being killed and are quitting.
I thought this was meant to be about weed?
55 It cost more to smoke cigarettes than it does to smoke marijuana.
I don't care about money, it's not really a good reason to legalise. Rape is free, afterall.
56 Marijuana can cure insomnia.
Give it to insomniacs?
57 Marijuana does not kill brain cells, it only blocks receptors.
I knew that. And...
58 Marijuana will not hurt a fetus; it is not a good idea to have a child. Get an abortion and light up a joint.
Please end your life.
59 Marijuana does not lower your immune system.
I never said it did.
60 Marijuana smoke isn’t as bad as Cigarette smoke. Cigarettes have more carcinogens.
Quit comparing the two, who cares what's in the smoke?
61 You can not overdose on marijuana.
You can overdose on chocolate.
62 Marijuana does not make you lazy
After use, or in general?
63 It is rare to cause toxic psychosis, but this is rare and usual stops in an hour or so.
Not a reason to legalise.
64 Marijuana has the same potency as it does in the 60’s
I wasn't there. :(
65 There is no supporting evidence to date that shows drug prevention is working. So far it seems to only increase curiosity.
Better methods needed then. Probably a more truthful one.
66 Marijuana increases heart rate and blood pressure more than cigarettes do. This is true. It doesn’t harden arteries like cigarettes however.
I'd need to look into the biology a bit more before saying anything, but I'm sure you've managed to get something wrong.
67 Marijuana is offered to people by their friends or people they know. It is ok for these kids to say no and still be socially accepted. Most kids who try marijuana like it. Some shit their pants. Parents should talk to their kids at early stages.
*Starts singing Just say No*
68 Pot brownies accidentally convert people to pot smokers. This is true in my case. I’m fat I will never turn down a brownie. I didn’t know it had ganja in it! Oh man I was missing out.
I'm sure you are fat.
69 Your parents tried marijuana!
That's true.
70 So did your grandparents!
I'd have to ask them.
71 According to the NIDA, 1 in 6 10th grades use marijuana, 1 in 4 seniors of high schoolers use marijuana.
So we should legalise something if enough people break the law? (Probably a sincere question)
72 Marijuana smokers normally hang out with other smokers. People pay a premium and party; the owners collect the benefits and have a great time. This is normal.
?
73 Marijuana ranges in potency, it can be American skunker (grown in basements) or it can be white widow (the strongest known). White Widow is the rarest of weed, but if smoked, you will need a wheel chair.
I'm sorry, have you forgotten what this list is?
74 Marijuana can grow in most climates.
Really stretching to make the hundred aren't you?
75 Marijuana inspires painters to pain, writers to write, and musicians to music… or sing.
Bill Hicks! :D Why this one number 75.
It's worth noting that weed isn't needed for inspiration altogether though.
76 Marijuana is fibrous meaning that its fibers can be used to manufacture textiles.
Been said twice.
77 There are patented machines that were designed to cultivate hemp which now remain useless since they are obsolete.
Oh no!
Unused patented machines!
What ever shall we do!
:frown:
78 Marijuana will make the US less materialistic.
Care to expand?
79 Marijuana is biodegradable.
So is my shit.
Going for the green vote now?
80 Marijuana is a renewable resource that can help us prevent global warming.
Yes, it seems you are.
81 Marijuana, if legal, will create a less of demand for harder drugs, thus eliminating cocaine.
Been said before. Enough with the repeats!
82 With a nationwide health care plan, and marijuana being legal, GSK and other pharmaceutical monopolies will lose billions!
Because big businesses losing money is a good thing?
83 Marijuana can eliminate hostility in aggressive people. For example, if you were to give hostile criminals marijuana, they won’t be hostile.
They'd be hostile more often if they got weed for it.
84 Psychologists could study deeper human motives while the patient was high on marijuana. This has since been stopped since the marijuana ban.
Allow weed to be used in experiments? (I swear this is already the case)
85 The US government could have an economic overhaul if they legalized marijuana.
Repeat.
86 how can people criticize something they never tried?
Murdering people is bad and wrong.
There.

A child wrote this.
87 Marijuana can create an agriculture spike in demand for labor, thus allowing more jobs for immigrants.
Whatever, I'm bored now.
88 Indoor growth in peoples houses will stop since technically it is not worth growing indoors if it were legal.
Who cares, I think you miss the point.
89 The price of marijuana will drop allowing drug dealers to do something else.
I'm sure they'll use the free time to get jobs.
90 The US state stores, where they sell alcohol can sell marijuana as well.
Not a reason!
91 With the sudden drop in people in jail for non-violent crimes will cause states to have more revenue since they don’t have to pay to keep innocent people in jail.
Fair enough.
92 the extra funding grated to states will allow for increase treatment for addiction to harder drugs.
Fair enough.
93 If legalized marijuana will become the drug of choice over Cigarettes and alcohol.
Source? Why is this a reason?
94 States with the extra revenue can place more funding into schools telling people not to do drugs.
Super.
95 Job training can be provided to low income families with zero expense to the tax payers. All funded by the taxation of marijuana.
REPEAT! REPEAT!
96 States can make legislation stating that cultivation of marijuana should be regulated with a license to grow. Licenses will allow people to pay taxes on the marijuana they produce.
REPEAT!
97 Tax stamps can also produce revenue on states that are too large or to populated to regulate cultivation.
What?
98 Marijuana is an excellent party drug. For thousands of years mankind used marijuana as an intoxicant.
For thousands of years (I think) people accepted slavery.
99 Marijuana, despite what you heard, is a lot of fun.
So is rape.
100 Marijuana is the only drug that, if made stronger, still can not kill you.
REPEAT.
101 Marijuana can create stronger family ties by relieving stress form the work environment.
So can exercise! Use that!

I'm actually for the legalisation of marijuana. This just really annoyed me.

The fact that "101 reasons why marijuana should be legalized" is some entry on somebody's blog and not backed up by sources and/or medical documentation makes me question why it's even being considered a viable source of information anyway.

And God, if marijuana causes someone's spelling to suffer the way that blog entry's did, I don't trust anybody high to do anything.

Yes... legalize it and do it soon!

I don't smoke... never will... but I believe that you can only control certain substances if they are legal.

Alcohol and Tobacco for example... we all saw what prohibition got us... rot-gut liquor, speakeasies, and organised crime.

The government should legalize the stuff... and tax the hell out of it. This nation needs money now more than ever... and legal pot would be a great way to save money by having fewer people in jail, fewer people fighting the "war on drugs", and more revenues from smokers buying the stuff legally... not to mention an increase in sales of fast food and potato chips (gotta fight those munchies).

It's really a win-win-win.

We've got violent repeat offenders of all sorts running the streets b/c the prisons are full of pot dealers.
