Leg gathers

Do you point diaper leg gathers towards the leak guard or do you point them outwards against your thigh? I usuall have my leg gathrrs outwards, but sometimes get chafing.

Adult briefs (diapers) are designed for the outer leg gathers to be outward pointing. For those who wear a diaper with both an outer leg gather and a leak guard (barrier) between it and the absorbent pad, that guard should stand straight and be located in the area between your legs and body.
Consider a slightly looser fitting as a very tight fit could cause the outer gathering to not move with your legs. Remember that the gathers want to ride on you leg.

Outward if I can , some diapers are hard to do that .mostly when these pack so tight !!

Ya, the tight packaging can create some really odd positioning of things like gatherings.
Since you likely are using daily, try taking the diapers fully-out of the packaging and set them out or any place that they can expand naturally over several days. Plus, prior to wearing, fold the diaper lengthwise and flatten the center pad by reducing the folds. Just prior to placing the diaper in position, stretch the diaper lengthwise as that will set the side guards in position and you will likely find the diaper fits a bit better.

fluff the diaper up a bit before applying.
The gathers should go outward
If chafing you could apply more powder or a barrier cream of sorts
If of course you get no leaks pointing them inward do what works for you
