KAL Medical in Utah Shutting Down?

Just dropped by KAL Medical this morning, partially to see if I could scoop up any more of my favorite ABUs before they disappear. When I arrived there was another dude (presumably also DL) chatting with the store owner out of the office door. I went to enter the store and he waved me over too and said they were closed today because some of their bigger clients aren’t paying their bills or something. He said “come back on Monday, I can help you then.” I wasn’t entirely sure I understood him, so I asked “Wait, so you’re shutting down forever?” and he said “Yes, forever.”
Take that with a grain of salt because I’m still not fully sure I understood the story, and maybe they can find a way to pull out of it. But it didn’t sound good.

Sad to hear, but that store was never anything to be excited about. They mostly only carried low quality medical products that are not well organized. Nothing that isn't cheaper and easier to buy online. The store wasn't fun or interesting to visit like some other abdl stores and they didn't have any unique or special products.

The one time I went there, they only have a few abdl items, and only in XL. It was super uncomfortable and very awkward. The 1 other person that was there (the cashier) was nice and everything, but it was not a good experience. They didn't really have anything worth buying, and the prices were more expensive than buying online.

I drive by there from time to time, and I have never even seen a car in the parking lot. I'm surprised they stayed in business as long as they did.

I am not familiar with this store & I'm not sure of their issues if they have any, but I can say home medical supply stores seem to be disappearing and it can be for various reasons. I do know in my area alot were effected when the state changed how Medicaid/Medicare was supplied & billed. On the Medicaid side even though in a way it's a better system they still hurt many small businesses by going direct with a national/bigger distributor vs going through the store(basically cutting out middle man) . Why it's better it's like IC Products @ one time you basically got what each store had and if you knew you could get something else & wanted something different you had to call around to see what each store supplied, but will say from my own experience I like dealing with a small business over big ones no crapping on anyone but you get more personal experience. It's even like I still use a family owned pharmacy for some meds and I have had insurance delaysz the family pharmacy will give me meds to hold me over where cvs told me to kick rocks(not controlled meds) family pharm I get treated as a human big pharm b/c of some meds got treated like an addict even though I never had an issue with meds.

But I do know of a medical supply store in a different state(used to travel to that area frequently) had similar issues with their state and Medicaid reimbursement, they were already a supplier for Abena, but eventually tip their toes in the abdl market(I don't know exact details) and they are still are medical supply store but they expanded their business at one point half the place was dedicated to abdl sales and I believe it's the reason they are still open, I do remember them saying once they actually had people driving multiple hours to shop there, (don't quote me as I personally don't know if it's true or not but if I remember correctly there aren't many stores, besides the few I seen mentioned here)

Are both of their stores closing or just the one in Riverdale?

The one in salt lake was closed Friday they said come back Monday. They still seem closed. I called their line and the guy said “come back tomorrow” so I have no clue as to what’s happening

I can’t imagine they’d only shut down one of them. But it is the Salt Lake store I went to.

I stopped by Murray store today. Lights were off, doors locked, but store was still filled with merch. Google maps said it was permanently closed.
