Hypothetical Situation. Alright, so a friend of mine who knows about my alias "mm3" (It's used everywhere fyi, it's used in place of my first name for Pete's sake), and is an occasional IRC'er apparently.

He browses around Blitzed, and just happens to join #adisc on a whim and reading the 'abnormal' description on the channel. Looking down the members list, he sees something -- "mm3".

Wham, a question turns into something else, and hell breaks loose.

A thought that came to my mind. Anyone care to share more thoughts on the matter?

#adisc is +s (secret), meaning it won't show in /list or /whois of you. So, if he found the channel, then he found it through somewhere else (most likely here).

But yeah, I do not have this worry since chevre is not my "regular" IRC nick :p

Are you talking about boom by any chance?

This is why I came up with an ADISC-specific username... I use DannyTheNinja only on ADISC and on Demonoid, the latter because it can only really be traced to a nickname that has a carefully protected identity. Even though I met you through ADISC, when you introduced me to boom I used my normal identity (which is "Dan" and not "Danny" for starters) and have been pretty damned careful to avoid sending him anything relating to my ADISC name.

So you might want to think about conjuring up a different identity for use on ADISC and related places.

Which is why I used my name backwards in the channel for awhile. I have a nasty habit of leaving IRC open on my 2nd monitor when people come over. My friends have never really noticed it or said anything, but I don't want them to look over and see my nickname from ADISC and remembering it.

Of course, now I'm too lazy to be bothered with something like that. I'm hoping that if someone ever notices #ADISC on here, I can distract them with my keys or something.

Use a nick your friends and family don't know!

I had talked about this a long time ago. Also, don't let people in RL know your blog names, etc. You never know when they might get "lucky"?

Try googling mine :p. You'll find mostly results about cheese or other goat-related things.

Google mine. You'll find ADISC is the only results. I've used this name since like 1998 (or variations anyway) but most were either private non-indexed sites, or I used a dif variation.

My username here is brilliantly anonymous yet also unique and fun to play around with. Plus I'm never short of ideas for avatars ;)

I have used Shen for everything online for the last 4 years. and either way, I really don't care if they google me and are all like homg adisc chomp chomp chomp. Because.. Any of my friends that would care enough to google me, Know about me being an ab. So yea. Also I don't like making secret names on sites like this because they almost always turn out to be generic impersonal names like diaperguy lildiaperboy diaperdiaperdiaper tbdl and so on. When I find sites like these to be rather personal. So I use my real Alias, and ironically not my real name. Go figure, but I figured if you cared about my real name you'd ask.

As for this...

No danny, it wasn't boom thank God. It was a hypothetical situation. I got a little "wtf"-ness when I was messing around with Colloquy.

---

o_O. Okay, who's messing with me :p? Haha, last night it showed up on the Colloquy's room list, not it doesn't. Hmph... Guess it was because I was actually in the room? Oh well, it's a bit of a relief. (Although the thread is still valid!)

My username is an abbreviation of my usertitle. I used to go by metallicamaster3 *everywhere* internetwise from 2004 - 2007. From there, On one particular board, A moderator gave me the nickname mm3, because he didn't feel like typing it out all the time. And the name stuck. I still use it everywhere, and it even replaced my first name xP

Well, it's been made sure that nobody on blitzed but those who know the channel name can find the channel and you can't see who's in it unless they join it themselves. So the hypothetical situation is as unlikely as that I will win the next lottery (none, as I'm not even old enough to play) as the channel doesn't show up in the channel list. ;)

+s is mlocked so it's impossible to unset that mode but by Moo. And I doubt he'd want to do that.

I'm actually very inactive on any tbdl related chats due to this.
I got my normal irc/other chat stuff running on a server, so static IP and DNS would pretty much reveal my identity. Seeing other channels isnt even a problem since I dont use the blitzed net for anything else.
Plus its hard to hide from people wo look at or use my computer if its among my everyday programs.
Another client on this machine is set up for it, but I rarely start it.

mzkkbprmt is a name only used for ADISC. It is easy to find - but only if you know it in the first place. As long as I don't accidentally use it on an IRC room somewhere else, I have no problems. You must either use a name that is unique to here and use different ones outside or use one that is anonymous. If you use a name you use elsewhere that isn't anonymous then you are taking a risk - simple as.
