Incontinence and Manufacturing

The title might sound a bit strange, but I'm looking for some insight. I recently started back at a vehicle manufacturing plant last month (and coincidentally, had a car wreck happen third week back), and I'm eager to find any advice how to deal with a growingly active bladder in an environment where not only are we woefully understaffed, so there's no one to cover me to use the restroom unless I painfully wait and leak for a break every two hours, but I am consistently around 4-5 other technicals at a time, with more people passing by in shifts up to 10 hours. I've doubled my protection to keep urine from creeping out the sides, wear boxer briefs over them, wear black jeans, but it still feels like people notice. I try to think its a mixture of heightened awareness and imagination.

It seems waiting every two hours is what a urologist would have me do (bladder training), but it seems like all its doing is wearing my weakened bladder out. Its strange how pinching or twisting with my right hand only makes the urge or flow worse, which is my dominant hand. I

have you been to a Chiropractor after the accident, or even Phisio because a pinched nerve can have a much bigger effect than you realize

Glad you asked, but the explanation is kinda long so bear with me

The back injury I have is two, three years next July, old. I saw a chiropractor for physical OT at the time. He attempted to pop my back, as well as give me stretches which agitated things if at all. Doctor thinks its a nerve issue, given I have issues elsewhere in the body. First doctor did an x-ray to look for a herniated disc, which x-rays don't uncover, and yet still tried saying it was negative. Second wants an MRI but is unaffordable, so the back injury case has been deemed a mystery. I still firmly believe its a lumbar disc issue. I can get into it further if interested, sorry if it got off topic.

A pinched nerve makes sense, and discs are normally the cause for them. I'm coming to terms I may never be able to go back to wearing regular underwear post back injury.

I think a diaper is your temporary remedy. You're on a diaper forum after all. I am a mechanic by trade and wear a diaper to work everyday. Usually I can go a whole shift without having to go into the restroom once to relieve myself.

I already do that. More.in hull up form, but I need something that is thin so the bulge won't show when I bend. Though a very slight rub up against jeans is more preferable to any leakage. There's nowhere in the plant I can go to change if for some reason I lose any more of the control I have,

2009 I had a major car wreck, long story, I never considered a chiropractor , went stright to finding the best neurologist and Neuro surgeon available. 3 years of pain and physical therapy and pain specialist, spinal injections.
within a hair of spending the rest of my life in a wheelchair. I got incredibly lucky.
so my outcome was pain free, upright and mobile yet incontinant.
from my experience find a good specialist (neurologist), then find a way to get a high resolution MRI.
the mri tells all, find a neurologist to read your mri. if you can find a neurologic practice that owns an mri your costs should be lower. Whatever you do best of luck in your journey.
if you reach a point where you are lost ask and I will try to help, I’ve been there.

Are there no Disabled bathrooms in the plant where you can change. In Canada it is a Law but I am not sure in the U.S. When I was a tech in a factory I would leave my shirt untucked so it hid any waistband showing. Later on I got a long shop coat to wear with my name and status so problem solved for me.

X-rays don’t show a herniated disc, they do show the offset of the vertebrae from where the disc used to be.
usually the vertebrae will be closer to the next on one side or the other.

Honestly your best bet would be a tape on given those lengths of time, something like an atn at least, you could wear a body suit (onesie) to keep your product from poking out but pull-ups by their design generally become like boat anchors and leaks will suddenly come out at the leak gaurds

Nope, apparently its setup for. continent individuals only. I envy the person on break who can urinate for nearly15-20 seconds straight, and have that kind of holding power.

I still find it a bit strange he would say its completely negative based off that alone, without any further testing. I had a second doc tell me I had strained "both walls of my back." That does little to explain nearly losing bowel control as well, or barely being able to walk for a week., Or the sciatica. That's why I don't buy either doctors conclusions.

It's not a bad idea protection wise.

The onesie simply wouldn't work due to the environment, a body suit would stick out like a sore thumb. Plus given its hot even with fans, I sweat like a pig in a tee and jeans. I doubled up protection to make it a bit tighter as well. It's by the third run (after lunch) I begin feeling the first layer puff some.

Tykables makes some plain colored onesies that would work

He was probably looking at the spacing on the sides of the vertebrae and didn’t see one side closer than the other.
sciatica is caused by a pinched nerve, pinch a nerve enough and it quits working (loss of bowel control ).

I don’t know how much help I can be but, I am a land surveyor. I understand the pain. I work in many remote or sketchy areas where bathrooms are a no go, so places to change are limited at best. I’m blessed to work with my best friend as my party Cheif so when im with him it’s easier but basically I try and wear something that can get me to about lunch so we can drive somewhere to change. My urologist told me to do the timing voids and somedays it works somewhat and others it’s useless. My bladder has a mind of its own and I can’t control it.

Do you have any insurance that could cover mri, I had one done under state medical program in michigan when I wasn't working some states have them some don't I'm Now on federal SSDI If it is nerve problems in spine it needs proper treatment I let mine go too long from having no insurance I'm Now disabled mine is causing urinary retention and incontinence and inability to walk halfway decent is now becoming an issue you should check with your state were you live if anything is available for medical needs Wishing you best of luck with everything can you let me know how things are going take care from babykisakitten.

A CT myelogram shows even better pics of the nerves than a MRI. But I would say follow up with a neurologist even a urologists' first. But it sounds like it might be a nerve issue of some kind. I am going through a lot of this right now too. I have had bladder IC most my life but now having a hard time holding my bowel. Just keep looking for reasons.

Diapers and the size you use are a trade off. I prefer a thicker heavier diaper that I know has my back 8 hours over a lighter one that I need to change every 4 to 6 hours. Personally I wear mega max daily and have never had anyone notice. I wear a stretch belt and large pants and long shirts. They have a landing strip and they stay on firm and never sag even without support over them.

Incontinence is not easy and you have to develop some confidence in your new situation. Of course that starts with finding a product you are confident in. Mega Max has been hands down the best for me.

I wish you good luck. Try to get into a neuro! But keep in mind if it is pinched nerves they should of been treated as soon as it happened, by letting it go on three years even if they find the pinch and fix it, the damage might already be long lasting.
