We got a pair of Old Towne 106 September 2022. We had been kicking it around for many years, but we just don't have the space to store them. After a couple years camping and having to rent canoes on the road it became too hard to justify continuing to pay to rent. Has anyone realized how few hours renting can be pivoted into the purchase of a Kayak? Don't get me wrong - There is a huge price swing between entry level and pro-yaks. All shapes, lengths, colors and standard equipment. Walmart purchase or at a Sports specific store.
We have a 60 mile running river that terminates into a bigger river that then terminates into the Mississippi. This one is shallow and probably not deeper than 8 - 10ft max in some places. You can catch Perch, bass, northern-pike and channel cat among the apparent 60 some types of species. We just got into fishing as adults last fall with the kayak purchases. Its super fun. We also have a group of 4 others that are avid fisherman.
We spent every Saturday from Sept to the end of Oct out floating and fishing. We would usually run about a 3 to 4 mile section. Some days we all caught at least one. Some days only one person caught a fish. We went out till the end of October. That day the weather was frost at 0600 and by noon 60s. It was definitely some fun and interesting fishing. Next camping season will be so cool having the kayaks along with us. No more renting.
*This was October 29, 2022. The fog is present on the river because the air temperature is about 35deg.
