You got it right. There are many, many different genetic links that predispose people to inherit all kinds of things. The scientific community is still learning more about this every day, so it's no wonder you didn't know. The general consensus right now it that genetics don't always mean you will automatically get the same problems, but it does mean you will have a fairly high chance of also getting it. That goes for all kinds of things beyond just physical traits like body build, genetic diseases and even incontinence, but also with things like addiction, temperament, or learning speed/capability (just to name a few).
