Disclaimer: This guide is for the downloading of legal uncopyrighted materials should you choose to use the information for illlegal activites you are the only one held liable.

I posted this guide along time ago on the old site but im rewriting after seeing all the people with limewire in the desktop thread.

Ares:
My recomended program. Always has the files i am looking for and i have never found a virus containing file on here.

Link to Download:Ares

Mp3 Rocket: A good dependable program although if your looking for some rarer or less popular stuff i would go with ares. I used this program for awhile and was satified with it.

Link to download:MP3 Rocket Pro

Limewire:mad:: Limewire i have found to be the most virus ridden program i have ever seen Most likely due to the fact that its been arounn for forever and still maintains some popularity. If you use limewire i would recomend at least getting the best anti-virus/spyware/adware you can get.

In all fairness here is the link:Limewire Pro

Torrents: Torrents are great for downloading whole albums moves and ect.

Utorrent link:Utorrent

BitComet link:Bitcomet

After you have a torrent program simply go to any torrent site such as http://www.torrentz.com or http://www.thepiratebay.org and enjoy.

If any needs help starting torrenting or maximizing speed on torrents please fell free to pm or post here.

Edit sorry i messed up title it should be "Guide to P2P programs" if some one could change that i would be very gratefull.

Scan files on Limewire after they are done downloading, never had a problem, aVAST! stops them.

Get aVAST! and then you can Limewire just fine.

I THINK, that its VERY low, but not sure. I use Azureus Vuze, not sure on spelling, but I'm sure i'll find a not getting limited guide. However, my Azureus doesn't have the encryption option!

So, it's safe to use then?

I've been thinking of using torrents instead of google's little 'trick' but all the ones I try get shutdown, so I'm a bit skeptical.

And frostwire doesn't nag about buying a pro version.

I don't think I have the best version of my Bittorenter, Azureus Vuze, so I'll have to get on TPB and download the one that allows encryption once I get cable, except, they throttle bittorent, and, I wouldn't be able to download the illegal pro version, lol.

I've been using Shareza! for ages...I like it because it links to several networks and also allows me to download torrents...I just click the torrent file on my desktop and it auto-opens Shareza...and downloads...TADA!

NOTE: It is not illegal to download in Canada, it is illegal to upload/share (unless the laws have drastically changed in the last year or two, which I doubt as our legislators have even more frivolous stuff to debate than music downloads! lol).

First off there is ALWAYS a chance of being caught but so far thats been for music mostly. For instance if you try downloading The Sorprano's or other stuff from HBO, movies, etc sometimes your ISP will get sent a Cease & Desist letter which they may or may not forward to you. Most ISP's ignore these but some of them will forward them to you and will warn you to stop. Best way to lower your chances is to use PeerGuardian2 (Just google it), it uses a blocklist to limit those who can connect to you.

For Bit Torrent I suggest Isohunt.com and Torrentscan. For a client use Azureus.

For P2P programs I ONLY suggest Emule, the rest are kind of lackluster. http://www.emule-project.net/

Assuming that this is true. It could be argued that P2P programs are illegal. As by nature they upload parts of the file to other peers. Whether it be whole or not.

I personally use uTorrent with forced encryption. I also use Emule as its opensource and contains no spyware shizzle. I only use this for the odd mp3 here or there. Mainly get albums and collections on torrent. I find that it is faster.

With searchable P2P networks is that they are typically slow and contain random porn and obvious viruses with each search. Does my head in.

Actually, P2P programs like Emule,Ares,Morpheus, etc you can completely disable upload unlike bit-torrent. Those kinds of P2P programs function on a completely different level than bit-torrent as they are for a lack of a better term not inter-connected where as in bit-torrent everybody connects to everybody speeding things up. Although programs like Emule require 'credits' to download, meaning if you don't upload much your queue position will suffer.

Here is another tip, if you have a large pipe try setting your upload speed to 80% or less of your maximum tested upload and not maximum advertised upload. If your upload is set to max, the packets that get uploaded to tell the client that you received the last piece will get stalled up due to the fact your upload is maxed and thus your download will suffer. I myself like to leave a 200kb/s (Kilobit, not kilobyte) gap in my upload speed, works wonders and I get to keep the ratio on the torrent up there.

*Downloads linux iso's and mostly legal torrents ;) )

Dunno why people bother with limewire, it's is only a gnutella client and there are plenty of those out there. I've found that the best networks (by my own opinion) are soulseek and gnutella. I use acqlite for the gnutella network and soulseex for soulseek. I rarely use torrents so I don't have a decent torrent app, I use opera to download them. It's not a very powerful bit torrent app in terms of features but it gets the job done for me.

I though torrents (I Use Azzy Vuze) were P2P? I am confused. I use Limewire to download single songs as it takes a lot less time to find than going on the pirate bay.

Lol ISP's get Cease and Desist and don't forward them, why not? Because nothing is ever done?

An important note on Shareaza.

Do NOT download any file named "ShareavaV4.exe" from any site, including Shareaza.com as it has been taken over by a rogue company.

While the actual Shareaza project is still very much alive, it has been moved to SourceForge.

More information on this matter can be found here.

Also, if you have downloaded ShareazaV4, go to the link stated above.
