Please go to your preferences page and make sure your "See Mature Topics" setting is set. Setting it to "Yes" means you see the Mature Topics forum (contains political and religious debates). Setting it to "No" means you do not see those threads.
Anyway, I noticed the "historic" pages are taken from www.archive.org, a site which has already been active for some time, and where you can browse the chronologie of a lot of sites throughout all the years they've been online.
I remember right around early 2001 / late 2000 (in high school grade 10) my friend did a project in our English class on different search engines (webcrawler, metacrawler, yahoo, lycos, etc...) and google did the best. At the time no one had even heard of google, but we started using it because of his test. And that, kids, is the story of when I started to use google.
