What size diapers does a girl with measurements 36-28-40 need? Her measurements seem to be right between most medium and large sizes based on charts. My feeling is that a large would be huge, but I'm not sure. Any advice?

I fit squarely between a small and a medium and I'm a guy so my experience may or may not be accurate.

I think it mainly matters what you are doing while wearing diapers and actually switch between sizes depending on what I am doing. When going out, the smaller size is easier to conceal, makes less noise, and I am more confident that they will not leak as they are tighter all around. The larger size on the other hand tends to be slightly more comfortable, has a little bit of a 'pocket' that allows air into, and can hold more wettings but the looseness in around the leg openings make me feel as if they are going to leak (although they haven't yet).

It's usually easier to make a larger diaper fit onto a smaller person than it is to get a smaller diaper to fit on a larger person and the charts usually reflect this by saying something along the lines of 'get the biggest size you can fit into'.

If you're not sure, try to find samples of each. It's better than guessing and getting the wrong size.

I don't deal with that sizing but I assume that's hip-waist-bust. The wider hips though would make the medium fit well with the lower tapes and the upper tapes may get pretty close to each other, but medium is probably your best bet for most brands.

It's bust-waist-hips in inches. Thanks for the feedback!

Hi Eagle :D

Your friend and I share about the same measurements.
It depends where she will be wearing them really. I am a Medium but have had to buy Large in the past.
The Mediums fit me best (of course) but the large is not "too big" on me either, but there are differences.

If she plans on wearing outside = Definitely get the Mediums :D
If she only plans on wearing inside then it doesn't really matter.

You will find that the Large will have a taller rise (It will hit higher up her back/stomach) then the Med.
The Large will probably be a bit wider in the crotch and (I guess depending on the brand) be a bit thicker too.
The top (Front and Back) side panels, where the tapes are will be wider in the Large and the tapes will hit more towards the center then the ends.
But as long as both are put on snugly (which should not be a problem with either size) you should have no (extra) problems with leaks.

With Larges I will usually fold down the extra height (where there is no padding) inside the diaper to lower the rise a bit and this does not effect leaks.
Also the larger diapers will cover a bit more of her butt, lol. Not that the med don't cover it, the larges just are a bit wider there too.

The Mediums will give her more of a smaller fitted look, while the larges sort of let you know in no uncertain terms that you are wearing a diaper, lol.
Mediums will look "cute" on her, lol, but if you or her want a more AB look and feel then get the larges. :D

Hope this helps.

Perfect, thanks so much Mandy! That's exactly the kind of answer I was hoping to find. You're awesome :smile1:

Not sure the bust measurement has much influence on a woman's nappy size, unless it's very high waisted!

Medium should be fine there

No problem Eagle :D Glad I could help.

So I see you are a DL and I'm guessing seeing how you were asking for size info that she is new to this?

If she at some point intends to wear them out let her know that a LOT of her clothes just won't work with diapers, lol.
This comes from experience :) Think Hi waisted jeans and loose flowy skirts and dresses.

Be sure to stop back, I'd be interested to know how everything worked out.

I would presume that the diapers you are sizing are disposables.
The trial and error method works finding what size fits you best.
Until you get that down pat don't be buying bulk orders of tons
of diapers. As noted previously determine what your lifestyle is
and realize that both Medium and Large maybe what you need.
At some point you may find that pads and liners will help with
extending the wear; comfort time and fashionable looks of what
you doing.
As for cloth diapers you will need less of an investment but will
be doing more laundry. Also cloth diapers of different sizing
should be considered for all the lifestyle reasons previous noted.
Unless the cloth diapers are custom fitted you will have to do
with the extra bulk (crotch area) typical of cloth.

In closing remember a waterproof diaper cover - do you need it ?
