Anything under the 'rock' category, from soft rock all the way to hard core death metal, on the more extreme ends of things, I tend to not look at the artist and just play a ton of songs from all the genres(IE. commit myself to knowing about and liking certain bands, for me it's just, 'whatever')

pretty much all of the above. i listen to just about everything. i've never understood why people limit themselves so much.

i have this one friend who's sort of like my folk music buddy. we're both fiddle-players and we get together and play a lot of irish and old-time american folk tunes. one time i tried to play her a skinny puppy album i'd been listening to a lot lately. she was like "WHAT!? you listen to THIS!? i thought you were a FOLK musician!"

...just cause you like folk music doesn't mean you can't also like screaming hardcore industrial. ._.

i also tend to run with kind of an indie-rock crowd, so it surprises a lot of people that i listen to stuff like muse and nine inch nails that's really popular. i almost have to hide it from some people, as if i'm less cool because i listen to stuff other than twee indie pop bands that only like twelve people in the entire world have ever heard of. believe me i LOVE music like that, but i don't understand how people can listen to local indie rock exclusively and never explore any of the other great stuff out there.

...just cause it's popular doesn't mean it's not cool. ._.

Oh, I'm most heavily into electronic music. It's difficult to be more precise than that, since my tastes span most of the subgenres of it. Has anybody heard the track 'Undreamt' by Concentrick? That's pretty awesome.

Mostly Rock, and pretty much anything under that genre I can enjoy.

But, I've mostly stuck to Emo, Metal, Hardcore, Screamo, Punk, and some Classic Rock.

I mostly listen to oldies. I like the Beatles and other British invasion groups. I also like music from the 40s like Glen Miller. I have had a subscription to XM Satellite radio for 3 years now and I enjoy it very much. I always have it on in my truck and when at home on my computer.:smile1:

I voted for Rock and Hip Hop. I explained the Hip Hop I like in the Hip hop thread so I am only going to explain the Rock.
So I like alternative rock and grunge rock mainly. I enjoy rock because it can convey emotions pretty easily, plus there is a ton of rocks songs that I can relate to my life. They help lift me up when I am down, or help keep me happy when I am in a good mood.

I can't beleive Metal has the highest votes so far! :yuck: How can you stand all that screaming everyone? Any metal head that knocks rap for being dumb, I just laugh at them. Actually there is one band I like that could be considered metal, but they do not do much screaming, Korn. They have a lot of emotion in their songs. Mainly bad emotions like anger, hate, revenge, and heart breaking emotions. I like stuff like that, specially when I am in the F*** the world mood, which is pretty common, like today.

Drum & Bass is my favorite right now, that's what I DJ mostly. But other than that, I mostly like all forms of music from all over the world. My uncle who is a huge fan of South American and African music gave me a playlist of some good songs. I'm also in the chill/acid/lounge scene. But I'm pretty sure a quick scan through my iTunes library could show you that I've covered almost each genre of music (although I'm sure there are still I have yet to discover).

Anything on the top 100 charts these days makes my ears bleed. Mainstream music these days is just udder crap :frown:

Ummm.... Iron Maiden? Metallica? Judas Priest? Guns 'N Roses? Black Sabbath?

The most famous metal bands are the non screaming ones.

I like rock. Mostly Alt rock but I can listen to Tool and Marylin Manson as well I can also listen to stuff like Jack Johnson.

My favorite band has to be Bright Eyes now though. I just they are indie rock but their songs are really odd.

"RnB [the awful adaptation of hip hop]"

Haha! Keeping the poll options neutral I see. :p

Well here are all the genres in my iTunes...
Electronic : e.g. Air
Soundtrack : e.g. Kill Bill
R&B (Note: this is rhythm and blues... not R&B. Not the hippidy hoppidy stuff!) : e.g. Amy Winehouse
Alternative and Punk : e.g. (The) Arcade Fire ; The Fall ; Kasabian ; Radiohead
Hip Hop/Rap : e.g. The Beastie Boys
Pop : e.g. The Beatles
Alternative : e.g. The Flaming Lips
Rock : e.g. Foo Fighters ; Lou Reed
Trip-hop (what?!) : e.g. Massive attack.
Podcast : wait no...
Indie : e.g. Travis
Other: e.g The Bravery?

Wow, It seems my favourite genre is Alternative and Punk, and then just plain Rock. I never noticed that before.

some classic rock for cruising around town (i.e. beach boys, beatles, the kinks, Elton John) and a touch of country rock (old school Rolling Stones, Allman Bros., Mountain)

if i need an adrenaline rush then heavy metal (Led Zepplin, Ozzy ozbourne/Black Sabbath) and a little punk with it (Sex Pistols, Ramones)
