So what are you guys and gals all doing for Easter?

I had fun today painting Easter eggs with my cousin. I was tutoring her in math too. It was fun. :D

I can't wait for Easter, because there's going to be lots of chocolate and candy, which I like. Then I'll go to church too, which will be fun too.

Umm... I'm also going to see my brother, whose coming in from Ottawa. Yeay! :D

So that's my Easter, what about yours?

Wake up unusually early. Go to an overcrowded Church in uncomfortable clothes. Return 2 hours later and go back to sleep.

Fun.

1) Get up and eat my Easter eggs. :D
2) Go out for a 'family day', which will just be a walk up a nearby hill (a big hill, not like a... you know what I mean).
3) Eat a nice lamb meal! :D

That'll be it really.

I'll be eating chocolate. My grandparents will be coming over for dinner.

That's it - easter isn't a particularly big event to our family. I remember back when I was young my parents would hide easter eggs all over the house and we spent the day searching for them. It was awesome fun! :D

*reminisces about the good old days*

Honestly, my family never took part in the whole rabbit/carrot/easter egg. They thought that it was stupid and had no relation to Jesus whatsoever.

^I agree with them 100%.

I never understood it... I always thought it was so silly. Eggs and Bunnies? It's funny how they can take 3 random things and make them fit, huh?

Easter is a very important day in the lives of Christians. It should be spent in Church and the like.

*sigh*

What disappoints me, is if you were to ask any child under 9 years old what Easter is, they would say "The day we get baskets of candy, go easter egg hunting, and go to church for some reason!"

I just think there is seriously something wrong with that.

Brunch with my extended family on one side, go home do some stuff, then dinner with extended family on the other side. We're not very religious, so it's more a annual family get together :D

Well they aren't just random things, eggs and hares symbolise birth and renewal. Easter isn't just a Christian thing really, it's about spring (apparently Easter is named after Eostre, a goddess of spring). And the fact that Jesus dies and is reborn is very springy (not like a mattress :p), this is the season for things being born or growing back... Eggs are clearly to do with birth, and hares are really horny at this time.

Easter is a very important day in the lives of Christians. It should be spent in Church and the like.

I was going to make a thread about this very topic (about how what were Christian holidays are just becoming ways of making money, like chocolate at Easter and all the gifts for Christmas). Would it be better if non-Christians abandoned celebrating these holidays, replacing them with something else ('Spring festival', 'Winter holiday')? Is it offensive to Christians that their holidays aren't really theirs any more? Or would making new holidays just distance the religious and non-religious even more?

Sorry to steal the thread a bit, I just find it interesting.

Well for me it's waking up way too early. Having a long breakfast with my family then got to church to be there for practicing (I do the sound). Then 3+ hours later go home and do a lot of homework as I'm behind.

Mommy and I are making chocolate easter eggs! We got some chocolate and some moulds and she melted the chocolate and put them in the two molds and now they are in the fridge. She says that after that we're going to put some melted chocolate on them and put them together and refridge them. Which will make eggs! Isn't she clever? :)

traditionally the way easter works is that the family gets together for a delicious brunch with mimosas and strawberries and eggs and lots of coffee and all sorts of good stuff. and we all hang out and play music and enjoy the springtime.

but this year my sister has moved to another town and my dad wants to hang out with his stupid fcuking girlfriend. ...so i suppose it's just going to be me and my mom.

i'm pretty pissed. i like my family to be together. :frown:

most of the dates of religion are based off of astronomical events ... like the equinox and solstice...
