Do you think the average person knows about the Furry Fandom?

Just curious, I've heard numerous people at my school mention something furry-ish, neko-ish or something like that. Please vote.

I'm quite surprised if people in your class know about it. Most people I know got all their furry knowledge from that CSI episode, and the XKCD comic :/

...and I think if I mentioned neko to any of my friends, the first thing they would do is google it

I said maybe, because I know one of my friends who is familiar with the fandom, although his opinion on it is irritating (his opinion=mental problem etc.). But not the average I am guessing because a lot of my friends are ignorant of it, but then again if you spend enough time on the Internet or on any forum, it tends to come up... Especially in off topic or randome sections... But in general I think it depends on how much the person browses the Internet.

Based on the average age group of this site, certainly. Enough people in my school know about it for me to have noticed comments on it, and I'm not furry in any way (so no reason for me to notice it in general). Average person off the street, perhaps not, but I would say it wouldn't take too much effort or time questioning people to find one who did. People who use the internet quiet a bit - certainly.

I have voted yes because I voted 'maybe so' on the other thread, and I consider this topic to be one that people are far more likely to know about.

I only know one person who knows about it in my old college. But knowing him, he is an internet forum dweller a bit like me. So it didn't surprise me to be honest, However, others even in our nerdy group probably will have little knowedge.

Infact, one of them was playing a video of helsing I think. And there is a character with cat ears. And the person mentioned above was explaining to some one who commented about the ears about it being some thing in Japan. Not the best, but for terms for them to understand.

Now that I'm at Uni, Who knows. I don't think many people have heard of it. They don't seem to into internet socialising and so on.

They've probably heard of it and have a rough idea of what it is about, But I don't think many of them except ex-furries have a substantial understanding of it.

Well going by my own experience, I'd say no. I only first found out what a Furry was when I joined this forum a few months ago. Also, just out of curiosity I asked my roommate if he knew what a Furry was a few minutes ago and he didn't know.

Yea, I'm pretty sure a lot of people in Pittsburgh or other towns where they hold big time conventions would know about it.

My friend has read Karma Sutra and googled 'fetishes' but he didn't know what a babyfur was till I told him. So my vote is no.

I believe its a lot more common than tb that's for sure. It might be too common, but it seems a lot of people do know about it. Though some people can not about it, yet act like one ^^ It seems that most people I tell already knows about it, so I'm guessing its becoming known. A lot of anime fans know about it, and people who are into things like that. Comics etc. I predict a lot of people knowing about it if someone who was really famous told everyone he/she was a furry.
