Cultures that don't use diapers and ABDL-like interests?

I've been wondering how our interests manifest in populations that don't sue diapers or use them very little? Take China for example, where up until recently split crotch pants 开裆裤 (kāidāngkù) were used predominantly instead of diapers. In many place they still are. In conjunction caregivers would use Elimination Communication (EC), closely monitoring their young ones for signs of needing to go or regularly reminding them, then holding them in a squat position and giving them a verbal cue so they will go. As they learn to walk and become toddlers they still wear split crotch pants so they can simply squat and go whenever and where ever they need instead of catching it in a diaper.

I assume DL largely is absent in this population? Is it replaced by something else?

I have not researched ABDL in Chinese language, if it exists, but I did once have a girlfriend who grew up in China without diapers. She was very attractive (did some modeling) but liked to act super cute, collect stuffed animals etc.. Interestingly it seems some AB-ish behaviors are accepted in Asian cultures. I shared my interest with her. The feelings of caregiver closeness, being taken care of and care-free resonated with her despite not having memories of diapering. Her memories were of being held closely in the squat position, whistled in the ear and having her needs were taken care of.

We were both quite fit at the time so I offered to give her that experience again. We tried it first one day while lounging around naked at a private pool villa at a fancy resort. I noticed her cross her legs and hold her crotch, so I asked her if she had to pee, she nodded, I picked her up behind her knees, and held her in a squat position over the gravel just off the deck. I tried my best to whistle gently and she produced a nice arc of pee into the gravel resulting in quite a puddle. When it came to an end, I asked if she was done with her pipi, stood her back up, held her close and patted her. She said it was a really nice feeling, intimate and even sexy. For me it was novel and I also enjoyed it.

I regret that I never dove deeper into the psychology of it with her but we did continue to do it sometimes. Occasionally, she would say pipi to me in Chinese and I would find a place to hold her in a squat. When she was clothed I would help her pull down her panties etc.. Sometimes we even did it in semi-public places like parking lots between cars, garages, parks etc.. This apparently matched up with her memories of being free and accommodated in these kinds of places in China.

She even pooped this way in nature. The first time she did this it was a bit of a surprise. We were walking in nature, she had said pipi and I was holding her just off the trail and she was doing her usual stream when she said something in Chinese which I did not recognize. Slightly breaking out of character but still super cute she told me "poo poo" in english. After her pee trickled to an end I could feel her bearing down just a bit and hear a bit of a motion, followed by a thud, a few more and a bit more pee. She had produced a nice long solid poop and a few smaller ones right next to the trail and her pee puddle. We had backpack with tissues, so I stood her up and wipped her well. She said it felt good to be held and experience emptying herself completely and naturally. She said in China they are very free, casual and usually just leave the poop wherever it lands. They do not have the custom of digging holes etc. like hikers do in the US. So we did like the Chinese and left her work there.

Does anyone else have any experience with China or other non-diapering cultures?

Interesting, I grew up in the country and have always peed anywhere I was when i needed to go, I still am pretty much doing the same thing I have always done, it is super easy for a guy to have the ability to freely go when you have to.

What you say about split pants is very true. Also, there’s difference between urban and rural customs in China. I imagine those have evolved further more recently. But occasionally, you get a rural person in an urban setting that doesn’t know what to make of the modern facilities. One of the more unfortunate images I’ve seen on the internet is of a person pooping in a public trash can. It has one of those metal enclosures around it with a smaller hole which makes for a decent “seat”. It was presented with an explanation of the person being from a rural area. Not sure how true, but given some of your description, it seems more plausible now.

I guess that’s better than the times I’ve encountered where a person left their pile and their soiled underwear in the stairwell of the parking garage…

I would assume that people who grew up with split crotch do not have the same DL attractions as westerners?

If this is the case what is the DL-substitute that goes along with AB in this culture? Is it what my ex and I were doing, holding her to EC/go outside? Is it wearing adult size split crotch pants and squatting wherever the need arises?

My wife and daughter told me last time they were on a airport, there was one lady in a group of asian people, that had a stuffed cat on her lap.
She would pet it and sometimes lift it up and give it a hug. The others in her group didn't seem to make notice, but my wife and daughter
found it kind of strange. She did otherwise seem to be a perfectly normal person.

I didn't say anything, but my thought was she perhaps being an AB.
Our daughter continued to say that it is a thing in some asian countries, to have a big affinity for everything cute.
So, yes, I think there are more acceptance in some asian cultures for AB people, but probably more for girls.

Funny thing, my wife still has a little collection of her old, stuffed teddys in our bedroom❤️

you went a little too far into detail for the adult diapers "group" with that last bit it maybe belongs in the sexuality discussion
