This will be my 4th capcon, and my first as a director and I'm super excited! Each year I've gone has been great whether I've been volunteering or on staff and has had good memories attached.
I'd guess not a lot of stories get shared because everyone's experience is different and everyone is looking to get something different out of it. I feel the con does really well catering to these different types of needs.
Every year I've gone has been with friends, as living close to the area alot of my friends were either staff or volunteers. I've never been able to go with a caregiver but I can only imagine going with one would be a really special time.
There's so much to do it's hard to describe it all. Like if you're energetic they have lots of toys and trikes and even a playground now. When you need it quiet there are quiet and sensory rooms with cribs and soft spaces. If you want to learn about or discuss topics there are panels. If in an older headspace there are board games or video games to play. If into other kinks there are petplay and dark rooms. This year even caregivers are getting their own big space. Also there are vendors to buy all sorts of stuff. There are main events too like talent shows and tea parties and trick or treating and a rave. And that's all con sponsored stuff, attendees put on their own room parties and get togethers too. It's impossible to do everything with so much stuff, but if there is something you want to do there is a space for it!
I would say overall my fondest memories have been made with friends I knew before going, but capcon gave us the equipment and the space to do things it's impossible to do anywhere else and therefore it has a special spot in my heart.
This got a lot longer than I expected, but tldr it's fun and creates an environment to be ones self whatever that entails and that's special 😁
