Can diapers stunt sperm count?

A guy's testes are designed to hang low because sperm production works best in cooler temperatures. I was just wondering... do those who wear diapers 24/7 feel they have a lower sperm count then lets say those who wear only at night?

Out of curiosity, how do you "feel" you have a lesser sperm count period? You need equipment to test for that.

But yeah, it does lower sperm count as a long term habit.

You know ... we do this every so often on the forums here. ;)

My take on it is this: Yes, diapers will pull your testes closer to the body, which will in turn raise their temperature. Then you wet, and this gets cold, so you have a heat-sink.

This is where I'm going:
  1. If you wear overnight, complete with a wear-wet cycle, it is probably a wash;
  2. Let's say that every last sperm is cooked off anyway ... you'll have more in a few weeks anyway.
  3. If you have borderline fertility issues, this might impact your ability to father children. However, if you are really trying to have children, stop wearing for 4-5 weeks, synch up with your partner's ovulation cycle, and you should find yourself with a new addition to the family.

So: perhaps, but not significantly. And if you're borderline anyway, it's no biggie, as you can just stop wearing for a bit while your stores are replenished.

If you're really worried about sperm-counts and long-term effects, stop drinking out of plastic containers!

EDIT: By the way, welcome to the board. If you'd like, you're welcome to post an intro thread. Most of us don't bite too hard. :p

Except the rabbits. They bite as if they're trying to eat you alive.

Well... I was just reading a 2000 study that showed adult males who wear diapers over a long period of time will stunt or completely destroy the testicular cooling mechanism. So I don't know what to think.... I'm just glad I didn't wear 24/7

Erm. Perhaps... but that's because we love pastrami. :)

Hm! Do you have a link or citation handy? I'd like to see what they mean by "long period" and "stunt or destroy."

My own take on it is that there are far worse things in our environment for our testicular health than diapers. :) If you are really seriously concerned, maybe getting some of your sperm banked is a good idea (I'm being serious here; it's something that I've been thinking about doing myself, as I might want to father kids into my 50s, but my sperm might be all degraded and using canes by then...).

I wouldn't worry at all on the issue of sperm count for a causal wearer. Even a person who would wear them 24/7 could wear diapers in such a way to return sperm production to normal levels.

Just keep in mind that your body makes millions of sperm per day, millions. Wearing tight underwear, such as a diaper, maybe effects that count by a few thousands. Millions compared to thousands.

I wear 24/7 (cloth at night disposables during the day) and have infertility issues (low count, abnormal morphology, low motility, etc.). After spending a lot of time researching this and talking to specialists about the link between higher temps and infertility, I found that most of the claims are overblown. My particular problem seems to have to do with blockage and past damage to the sperm ducts (congenital or environmental). Simply put, you might lower your count in a small way by raising the temps, but to put you in the category of infertility (such as I am) there would be something more substantial going on.

Not a matter I deal with anymore, so whether or not I wear diapers makes no difference on my sperm count, one way or the other. It cannot change from zero for me without some major advances in medical technology.

Being a eunuch does have its drawbacks, though.

I don't really understand the point of this thread, it's kind of retarded. Even if your sperm count is lowered, it only takes one sperm to make a baby, and it's pretty unlikely that your sperm count would lower that much anyway.

I don't mean to hijack this thread or anything... but I saw this earlier today and lol'd.

On topic though, it seems to me that diapers could potentially cause infertility issues, but I don't think that it's an issue if you wear diapers in moderation, like all other good things.

yes you do loose sperm count if you wear diapers allot or all the time. i been wearing for years now and my sperm count dropped to a point i can't get a woman pregnant. as a matter of fact my penis has grown a little smaller as well from wearing diapers for so many years combined with the low sperm count. i do not know if this has anything to do with wearing diapers for so long but my hormone count is low as well and this is leading to me getting smaller down there. i am in process of trying to get male hormone treatments to get my count back up. but the average price for these patches is 395.00 per month which i can not afford and my insurance will not pay for it either. i am on total disability and low income so this is a hard item for me to try and get. but i am looking at some companies that make it to see if they can help me. my sex drive is way down now too and really do not care one way or they other when i feel this way but thats the low hormones talking.

Am I the only one whose diaper doesn't get cold after wetting? Seriously, when I wake up in a wet diaper it is never cold...my body heat keeps the diaper warm I wear Abena's or Bambinos mostly (plastic backed). I agree that wearing often probably has an effect on your sperm count, I only wear 2 nights a week at most and I'm currently on a 3.5 week break due to family and friends visiting.

What concerns me about the claim is the part about diapers "destroying the testicular cooling mechanism". As I understand it, the "cooling mechanism" is a simple matter of the testicles hanging loose and the scrotal muscles being relaxed -- it's the normal posture for your nuts. The only "mechanism" that comes into play is the warming mechanism, where the scrotal muscles contract and pull your testicles closer to your body for heat. What will probably happen is that, over time, the heat will retard and interfere with proper sperm production, yielding a low production rate and a high rate of spermatic deformity. Of course, the moment you stop wearing diapers and cool your dudes down, they should go back to producing normal sperm at a normal rate (unless there's something else wrong with you).

A review of a similar study can be found here.

They make for interesting reads at any rate. I don't think you will cause long term damage without a similarly long term exposure though.

We have discussed this before and concluded that the difference is not significant. <link>

Can diapers stunt sperm count? yes, slightly.
Does it affect fertility? There may be some issues, but generally not.
Is this a problem? In general no.

Sure does. Just like it does with jeans and tighty-whities (sp).

I heard from a research paper somewhere that this was found to be false. I'd say there are more incredibly harmful things you can do than diapers. In order to see if damage is actually permanent as you can't find out by doing a sperm count thing right after a period of wearing you would need to wear 24/7 for a few years and then test. I would fathom that the body adapts to the situation you give it and I don't think wearing more clothes, thus being hotter, leads to lower sperm counts. My best guess is that the body adapts and it's likely if you were doing real harm that you'd have signals. Think about heat stroke, if it's incredibly hot you would be sweating bullets....when you can't sweat anymore that's when you go into the "danger zone."
