So, I got sample packs of a few different diapers from XP Medical. They are supposed to get here in the next couple days (and I'm impatiently watching the FedEx tracker in the meanwhile) Might sound a bit sudden, but deciding to join here was made around the time of dedicating to buy them (same day, actually).

I guess why? It has nothing to do with identity clash... it isn't for anything sexual... I think it's a combination of being curious and practical. I definitely blame my old roommate for saying I should wear diapers for really getting the curiosity going...

As for practical, I've got a few activities where bathroom breaks are interrupting, so I'm gonna test with those.

But first, the delivery. I never order stuff, and my sister is visiting for a while. I also work evenings, so the chance of her stumbling across a box for me when there's never a box for me is high. I doubt she'd open it or look through my stuff after it disappears--she won't even look in my bookcase for a book I say is there--but she'll be just dying to know what it was and I'll never hear the end of it. Still thinking of what to tell her if she asks, and while I've been content to let her believe I have mountains of porn in my room, that's unlikely to work for a cubic foot box.

One of the activities to try wearing with is when I'm out taking photos. Light changes quickly, and I've come to learn that the bladder of the nature photographer is actually a steel compression tank... Seriously, it's way too uncomfortable to hold it that long, and it's distracting while you're trying to set up the shot or get to another place until you find a toilet... a rare occurance where I take pictures.

Concerns are basically that I have poor control once I start, so if I flood it on accident (disturbingly likely), it better be good and non-leaky... otherwise I'm gonna be out in cow town with wet pants. In the cold.

Probably not right away, but perhaps at some point, I'd like to try wearing them at work. I'll have to see how using them out in Cow Land and Pine Tree Land go. It doesn't get very busy for me except over the holidays (where I actually changed employee type from customer service to counter fixture), but I don't really like taking toilet breaks at work... and not but rarely because of the state of the bathroom. Just don't like to.

Of course, if I decide to wear at work it'll have to be super ultra mega discreet. Negligible chance of leaks. No noise louder than my pants (which are a bit noisy). No rising shirt. And no incredible wardrobe disasters (which I almost had once or twice).

I'd also like to try wearing them to bed. This is mostly just curiosity of the experience. I also want to know why my old roommate said I should wear diapers. I'm not sure why he said that. As far as I can tell, I don't wet the bed, and I'm everything but incontinent, so he was probably pulling my leg... but why diapers? There was zero chance of him knowing I would think about taking his suggestion seriously.

Umm... obviously, it can't leak. That'd be... worse... than leaking at work... ... Way worse. A kind of worse I'd rather never deal with. I'm not sure if I'll do the overnight test, honestly. In relation to my apocalyptic repercussion hinting, how do you people feel about it?

Anyways, that was... longer... than I anticipated. Here's to a good first experiments and non-hair-pulling sister haranguing. And sleep. Without those terrifying peeing dreams.

Good luck, with trying them out. Let us know how it all goes for you.

XP has a excellent line of adult diapers, and all are available in sample packs. I would take a look at the diapers tests link on XP homepage, and depending on what samples you purchases and how the tests relate to what you think you want in a diaper, you could even order samples of some of the other diapers in the absorbancy range you think you would like, and be sure to keep short written notes on the samples as you use them so you can see what you actually liked. Diaper selection is really a personal choice, but reread what others have said about your choice(s) and hopefully, make a wise decision. Like Mattew said, let us know how it all goes for you.

EDIT: I just reread your post, and the concern with your sister may be unfounded. Tell her the truth, as least so far as when you are out doing photography and your feel for the need of the protection the diapers offer. If she says why these instead of depends (or other retail store brands)
telll her you have tried them, and they do not suit your needs as there has been a few times when those diapers were inadequate. Now, you are looking for something more suitable and these samples are to help you find what you really need. Again, good luck, and here is hoping your sister will understand your situation.

If you embark upon this path the inevitable result will be that someone is going to find out that you have, wear, and use diapers for the intended purpose. Just sayin'.

From a practical standpoint diapers are convenient, you'll become more efficient, less bathroom breaks, etc.

So, for practical applications your best bets are going to be the following brands, Tena Slip Maxi, Molicare Super, Abena X Plus, Dry 24/7, any of the Bambino line, Northshore brand, Absorbency Plus (with caveat). Cheap diapers ain't good, Good diapers ain't cheap.

First step in wearing on the job is to plan your wardrobe around the diaper. For guys, loose fit jeans, some kind of diaper cover, onesie, or boxer briefs, a tuck in shirt, with a long flannel hoodie shirt that hangs below your butt, and a belt. Belt is very important. Clothes are the camouflage. Leak prevention comes down to three factors, how much you urinate and how fast, capacity of the diaper, and diaper fitting.

Flooding is bad for leaks, if a high quality diaper is going to leak it's most likely going to happen if you are sitting down. When and if you flood it. Which you shouldn't. It'll take some getting used to. Capacity only becomes a true issue only if you are buying the common store-brands like Depend, Attends, CVS, etc. Avoid those like the plague. Any decent mid to premium diaper will take at least two full bladders, which is approximately 4 cups of liquid. Capacities for diapers are clearly listed on most diaper review websites.

Diaper fitting. This is the most critical part of preventing leaks. Making sure that the diaper is the correct size for your body and that the leg gathers are snug and the leak guards (if the diaper has them) are free and standing not stuck to the mat. There are lots of ways to put on a diaper, and you'll likely do like most and lay down to put them on the first time. If you use powder or barrier cream, don't overdo it. Too much powder will clog the pores in the diaper's acquisition layer and prevent the diaper from doing it's job. Go light on the powder and cream, but do use it if you are going to be in the thing for multiple hours. Laying down to diaper yourself will likely give you a poor fit if you intend to do things like, walk. My recommendation is to learn to put the diaper on standing up. This way it'll fit and move as you would standing or sitting. Always fold the diaper in half lengthwise to break up the absorbents that get compressed in the packaging process before wearing. This simple step can improve initial uptake and wicking dramatically. Personally I always do bottom tapes first to make sure the diaper is snug around the legs, then I do the top tapes. When you do the taping you want it to be symmetrical, asymmetric taping can lead to a poor fit, a diaper that shifts or sags. A shifty saggy diaper is a leaky diaper.

Carry a small roll of duct tape in your car to fix broken tapes. It will happen. Be prepared.

I'd also like to try wearing them to bed. This is mostly just curiosity of the experience. I also want to know why my old roommate said I should wear diapers. I'm not sure why he said that. Anyways, that was... longer... than I anticipated. Here's to a good first experiments and non-hair-pulling sister haranguing. And sleep. Without those terrifying peeing dreams.

Wearing a diaper to bed is a very pleasurable experience. Good quality diapers are soft and warm. A lot like a nice warm blanket. I'm sure you'll like it. As far as your roommate's comment, you're probably just subconsciously telegraphing your desire to wear diapers. It's okay. We're not going to judge you or call you out as a weirdo. The important thing is that you don't beat yourself up for your curiosity or desire to be padded. It's normal to feel apprehension, shame, or guilt about diapering. It'll pass quickly if you let it. Curiosity about wearing diapers doesn't mean that it has to be sexual at all. I'm a DL and for me it used to be a huge turn on, not so much anymore, it's just... nice. It feels good. There is something to be said for a nicely padded voluptuous butt that I find flattering on either sex.

As far as leaking, don't buy cheap diapers, make sure they fit you and practice good diapering technique. I wore 24/7 for over a year and I can count my leaks on one hand and they were all due to poor fit and poor quality.

Photography is not the only profession that can benefit or necessitates the need for a diaper. Astronauts, divers, security guards, tellers, pilots have used diapers to fulfill high-demand high-stress jobs. When you gotta go, you gotta go and sometimes a latrine simply isn't available to relieve yourself.

Also, some other tips:

If you want to extend the life of your diaper, you may want to grab some boosters. Premium or not, sticking them in your diaper gives 'em a bit more absorbency and resistance to flooding.

Try wearing your underwear up and over your diaper. This is doubly useful: it helps quiet crinkles of plastic diapers and, if your shirt rides up, people will see underwear rather than the diaper.
Aaaand that's all I got. Happy diapering!

(also, read the post above this one. It's helpful.)

One step ahead, one step behind. I did look at the tests page to get an idea of what to order, though I may order some more of the samples to get a wider opinion. I like your suggestion to keep brief notes while out and about... will definitely do that.

I just reread your post, and the concern with your sister may be unfounded. Tell her the truth, as least so far as when you are out doing photography and your feel for the need of the protection the diapers offer. If she says why these instead of depends (or other retail store brands)

May be.

I'm not sure about outright telling her, though if she were to guess correctly I'd probably blush hard enough to incriminate me several times over. As for responding about other (cheaper and easier to obtain) diapers, won't happen. She doesn't think like that.

I'm sure that if I did tell her why I was buying them, she'd probably laugh, say something about how I'm so practical, then weird. Maybe not in that order, and with lots of "OHMYGOD".

Actually, the one disaster involved a hint of weight loss, a loose belt, and way too even a hip. I'll take an upriding shirt any day. Good plan.

(I would put this reply with the others, but it's just so long that I feel it should be split up.)

I'm not too concerned with someone learning I am using a diaper for its intended purpose. If they're nosy about it... well, don't stick your nose in other peoples' business. If they are a poor bystander... I'll be too embarrassed to care, honestly. If they're my sister, it's what I get for ordering online while she's here.

No, the practical use I see for using them in cases where I'd be discovered are better than any opinion they could have. With the exception of it involving ruining dad's bed that he's letting me use. Apocalyptic.

So, for practical applications your best bets are going to be the following brands, Tena Slip Maxi, Molicare Super, Abena X Plus, Dry 24/7, any of the Bambino line, Northshore brand, Absorbency Plus (with caveat).

I did not order the Dry 24/7. I feel like I might need to fix that.

The caveat for the Absorbency+ is that it has no leak guards, instead relying on fast absorption, correct?

First step in wearing on the job is to plan your wardrobe around the diaper. For guys, loose fit jeans, some kind of diaper cover, onesie, or boxer briefs, a tuck in shirt, with a long flannel hoodie shirt that hangs below your butt, and a belt. Belt is very important. Clothes are the camouflage.

The most wardrobe planning I've ever done is making sure I don't wear my two identical shirts back to back so it doesn't look like I am wearing dirty clothes. But camouflage is good. Mostly got the basic wardrobe down. I'll use the photo test (and the bathroom mirror) to see what needs to be adjusted for work.

Flooding is bad for leaks, if a high quality diaper is going to leak it's most likely going to happen if you are sitting down. When and if you flood it. Which you shouldn't. It'll take some getting used to. Any decent mid to premium diaper will take at least two full bladders, which is approximately 4 cups of liquid.

I'm not sure about flooding, though if going in the diaper is like my experience at the urinal the other day, it won't be a problem. I do lots of standing at work... and running around like a chicken with its head cut off... and only sit while eating lunch. Only go once (since it's so interrupting), so definitely under the two bladderfuls limit.

I was extra careful in getting the size right. Whether or not I put it on right the first time is a whole other matter.

If you use powder or barrier cream, don't overdo it. Too much powder will clog the pores in the diaper's acquisition layer and prevent the diaper from doing it's job. Go light on the powder and cream, but do use it if you are going to be in the thing for multiple hours.

I'll keep that in mind.

Laying down to diaper yourself will likely give you a poor fit if you intend to do things like, walk. My recommendation is to learn to put the diaper on standing up. This way it'll fit and move as you would standing or sitting.

I'll keep that in mind too. Probably laying down first to at least have put one on the easy way so I know about how it's supposed to fit, then get on doing it standing.

Always fold the diaper in half lengthwise to break up the absorbents that get compressed in the packaging process before wearing. This simple step can improve initial uptake and wicking dramatically.

Obviously good, but did not consider that. Will do.

And a leaky diaper is... not a good day for me.

Carry a small roll of duct tape in your car to fix broken tapes. It will happen. Be prepared.

If I had a car to carry it in, I'd do that. I'll figure out a way to get spare tape on my person.

I like nice warm blankets. Should be enjoyable.

As far as your roommate's comment, you're probably just subconsciously telegraphing your desire to wear diapers.

That's what I'm afraid of.

Been there, done that. Going into this with a healthy attitude. Most of the apprehension (justified or not) is currently revolving around my sister opening the box and telling everyone.

Curiosity about wearing diapers doesn't mean that it has to be sexual at all. I'm a DL and for me it used to be a huge turn on, not so much anymore, it's just... nice. It feels good.

I just feel like the term Diaper Lover is a bit loaded. Stupid English. I'm more of "Practically Diapered" (even if that one's loaded perfectly from my topic title).

Looks like you have pretty well thought the whole thing out, and I noticed that you are taking a lot of the advice given you in this thread. ATTENTION NEWBIES: We really are a good support group, and this thread and SpottedLion's latest response shows just that, so don't be afraid to ask questions when you have them.

Good Thoughts on SpottedLion's post, "Before the first wear"

This is basically for everyone and especially those who are recent new members who have questions but is afraid to ask them.

We are a support group, first and foremost, and indeed do support just about anything that is ADisc related - although sometimes the support may be hard to see.

Everyone should read SpottedLion's post, "Before the first wear", and notice the concern he has in his opening post, the replies given so for, and how the replies are acknowledged by SpottedLion. The entire thread shows as good as any I have seen, and better than most, just how supportive this group is.

So don't be afraid to express an opinion or ask a question about something.
There is only ONE dumb questions, and that is the one that is never asked.

I started out somewhat in a similar fashion as you. Casual curiosity, and then I started liking it. I digress, my apologies, I should not project myself upon others.

Purely from a utilitarian standpoint. It's not all that uncommon for professionals to wear diapers on the job because their work environment or situation is not conducive to convenient bathroom breaks. Really, nothing to be embarrassed about. People just don't like to admit it, especially supposed "tough guy" professions like construction equipment operators.

If you're like me, average build, close to six foot tall, 36 waist, 200 pounds, and an active lifestyle. Your best bet is going to be Tena Slip Maxi. They're expensive to get in the U.S.. If you need to move around, climb ladders and such, and you need decent concealable diaper that can take a flood, doesn't make too much noise, good odor control, it's my go-to diaper in that situation. Only downside is that they do expand quite a bit when soaked, and under tight pants you'll have a noticeable diaper bulge. Under loose fit jeans, you can't really tell. Otherwise they're great for daytime active wear.

Also, when in doubt get one size larger diaper than you think you need because there is no real sizing standard among diaper manufacturers. Medium Molicares fit me perfect where a medium Dry 24/7 is this huge honkin thing, and an Abena M4 fits good but I can't do much because they are so thick.

It's trial and error. Find a sample you think you like, order a bag, wear them for a week to test them. In the end you probably settle in on one or two brands that fit you good and do the job you require of them.

While I'm not a fan of "cloth" backed diapers. If you're out and about on a hot day, plastic backed can get sweaty and uncomfortable. The Tena breathable diapers are very comfy, very absorbant, and quiet. My only problem with them is that because they're cloth backed they can be "weepy" and if you're not really hydrated they'll start smelling odd. Not distinctly of pee, but kind of a weird smoky smell, almost like burned microwave popcorn. I found it could be countered by swiping some of my deodorant on the outside of the diaper front to back to cover the smell.

Cheers!

No need to apologize.

I guess part of the reason I'm going to give this a shot is because I don't really feel that constrained about some things. Being called a girl once every couple weeks because I have long hair? whatever. Why go distracted and daintily when I could just go?

If you're like me, average build, close to six foot tall, 36 waist, 200 pounds, and an active lifestyle. Your best bet is going to be Tena Slip Maxi.

And a smock. I need to learn to sew. I think I'd look good in a gown. I've just discovered there is a very bad shirt upriding issue, and I do a lot of the reaching far over my head at work that makes it happen. (Besides, I don't like showing my arms and stuff anyways, so a longer shirt would be my kind of thing.)

It looks like XP Medical has discontinued their stock of that and they'll eventually run out. Where have you been getting them?

They're expensive to get in the U.S.. If you need to move around, climb ladders and such, and you need decent concealable diaper that can take a flood, doesn't make too much noise, good odor control, it's my go-to diaper in that situation. I'm pretty active during the day (unless I've decided it's a programming fun times day), and I think my pants count as loose, so that seems like a good choice. I'll probably order the sample of them in time for my next next weekend, or would it be smarter to order sooner?

Ditto to this. My preferred "standard" underwear is boxer briefs. When I'd wear a diaper to school (just graduated HS last year) I'd wear a pair of boxer briefs over the diaper to do exactly this. I, personally, wear more for comfort than practicality - I rarely "use" diapers, but on the rare occasions I do, I find that a pair of boxer briefs does several other practical functions:
1. It helps to hold the shape of the diaper when dry to prevent the padding from falling apart and clumping into uncomfortable lumps. This is an issue primarily encountered with the cheaper store-brand diapers, but has been known to happen with better diapers too, especially during extended wear.
2. When wet, it prevents the diaper from sagging too much. Diapers take on a lot of weight when they absorb liquid - this weight can pull downward on the diaper and stretch the material of the diaper itself, making it a looser fit and thus more prone to leaks. It's like an exoskeleton for your diaper.
3. Because boxer briefs have legs that extend past the diaper, the cloth will catch any small leaks around the legs before your outer clothes do. Not much, of course, but even a wet spot the size of a quarter can be embarrassing if it's visible on the outside.

it took me an embarrassingly long time to notice this! this happens to me especially if i drink coffee. a wet diaper smells like burnt popcorn, or maybe burnt electronics, and co-workers stop and start sniffing the air to find out if a computer is overheating somewhere D-: ever since then i avoid coffee when diapered, and have reduced my coffee intake overall, just in case :)

Yeah. First time I noticed it I was hunting the kitchen looking for the burned bag of popcorn, and then I noticed that the smell got stronger no matter what room I was in.

A quick followup: this is the truth! I didn't notice much of a quieting... but then again, I didn't give much a chance to hear the ununderwear'd crinkle volume. A quick check in the mirror did confirm the hiding, though.

It also helps with keeping them from getting roughed about when moving, I noticed. (Plus, if you need to abort diaper, you still have some sort of underwear.)

- - - Updated - - -

So, now that the first wear has happened and such, I'll probably head to greener pastures make a new thread after I'm done with the samples. I'll just quickly follow up here with the "first wear" and "before it" bits.

Before It (The First Wear)

So, the package came in a highly boring, plain box with minimal address info (though a smart person could still connect dots if they cared enough to look). My sister was not at home, so no having her try divining its contents.

It (The First Wear)

Decided I really wanted to try the overnight part first (since I was at work after getting and disposing of the box). But before that... getting it on right is harder than you might think. Had to undo a secondary tape because the first bonded suitably and then I realized it was too loose. If Molicare means "You can correct errors immediately." when they say call them refastenable, I'll take it. The diaper was comfortable when I started.

I, of course, slept like a rock and even dreamed about wetting it (as in waking up and going and then falling back asleep), but that never happened. I was going to dispose of it shortly after waking, but a combination of "I have 3 of these." and "My sister is in the kitchen." persuaded me to keep it on until she left. She did pat my hip right on the buttock pad edge--like, fingers half on half off edge--while walking around me and I almost skipped a beat, but she didn't notice. Or if she did, she didn't say anything.

Was generally unable to use the diaper for its intended purpose but a little bit because of how little time I had, so I think that test needs redone.

Oh yea... and it was still comfortable when it ended, but one of the tapes got a little messed up in spite of the protection the "proper" underwear provided in an uncomfortable and worrisome fashion. Likely I put it on wrong. Going back to How to Put On a Diaper to see if I can see what I did wrong.

After It (The First Wear)

Now approaching The Second Wear, which is really just the first wear but with (hopefully) more use testing and proper taping. As said at the top, I'll probably save the next related post until after I'm done with the samples and I've got all the notes down. Of course, if something interesting happens in the meanwhile, you guys'll be the first to know.

Have fun in the meanwhile!

I wear 2 stay dry diapers to bed they are really absorbant I find that I always pee alot during the night and these diapers don't leak even when full.

Hope you really like the good feelings you're likely to get...if you don't mind me asking is the person who awakened you to this whole DLAB world 1. one of us diaper/nappy enthusiasts? and 2. on this site?. Good luk and hav fun. bringmesunshine

There are a few ways delivery of things can be less suspicious. One is order lots of stuff online. Both my roommate and I order things online all the time. She doesn't drive so it is easier for her to have it delivered. We both have Amazon Prime accounts so both of us get lots of packages from Amazon. I am also a big Ebay fan and being a photographer as well, I frequently get get boxes containing photo equipment and supplies. Nearly all of my lighting and darkroom equipment is used and what is on the outside of the box in rarely what is inside the box. I also have made it a point to never ask what my roommate what's in the package she received so she never asks me. Another way to prevent nosy housemates and neighbors from inquiring about your deliveries is to have your packages diverted. For FedEx you can have your packages delivered and held at any FedEx store for free. For UPS you can have them held at a local depot for free or shipped to a UPS store for a small fee.

I'm not really a nature or street photographer so I rarely go out by myself. When I do go out on these outings it is usually with other photography friends. So when nature calls we just find a spot to take care of business. However I have enjoyed doing studio work, developing film, and for me the best is when I'm printing/toning in the darkroom while being diapered.

Concerns are basically that I have poor control once I start, so if I flood it on accident (disturbingly likely), it better be good and non-leaky... otherwise I'm gonna be out in cow town with wet pants. In the cold.

In your case you may want to start your diaper time with an empty bladder. This way you can wet in small amounts as urine is produced. It may take some time for you to easily let go. I'm at the point that if I am wearing a diaper I almost don't think about wetting I just do it. There are some premium diapers out there that can handle a flooding, but you ave to be careful in what position you are in while doing it.

As others have said a good pair of boxer briefs help out a lot. Even better is to use a onsie with boxer briefs.

Wearing to bed can be quite fun and relaxing. As far as you old roommate is concerned, the only way to find out is to ask him but that could be awkward.

Thank you. They've been ok feelings. Weather was bad on my days off, so I didn't go out (unless you count to the coffee shop for a comfy place to read), so it's just been around home.

He isn't, in either case. I'm feel he possibly might have been expecting some sort of reaction out of me other than nonchalant interest in his comment, but if he was going fishing I've not a clue.

I'll see when my sister gets back home. She received the second order of samples, so if she's just dying to know what was in the box that she brought in, that means I don't buy enough.

I wake up all odd hours of the day to get out for pictures. It was hard enough convincing people to see the eclipse, when all was needed was to walk out the door. Too much walking for anyone to come with me. I wish I had the darkroom stuff! I've got a roll of Ilford 400 that I'm not sure what to use it on. It'd be cool to develop and enlarge myself.

I did that on one of the tests. I waited ALL DAY before I successfully willed the going to commence.

I did some very scientific testing with carefully measured amounts and speeds (I didn't know those muscles did that) with a couple samples in a controlled environment (standing at the toilet). Results were promising in that 1. I didn't know those muscles did that and 2. there was only a hint of a leak. Position matters a good deal. Also properly securing tapes.

As others have said a good pair of boxer briefs help out a lot. Even better is to use a onsie with boxer briefs.

They muffle noise a little, but I still think my best bet would be a smock-frock.

It was enjoyable. I wouldn't say fun, though it was quite comfortable. Also, chances of me asking him are more slim than rebinding NIL.

You are getting a lot of good advice. To give you a little different angle, I do not find wearing diapers convenient at all. I am actually amazed that anyone does. Since your use is a practical one, rather than a pleasurable one you might consider the negatives of diapers.
1) Need to select, size and pay for diapers
2) An extra garment or 2 to put on, and make sure it fits properly
3) If it’s a super absorbent diaper meant to last a day, you wind up carrying around a pound or 2 of water around the waist.
4) Worry about being found out
5) If it’s a lighter diaper, you will need to find a place to change, plus carry a backpack and disposal bags (don’t forget these!). If you can’t find a place to change you will worry about leaking.
6) Not comfortable in hot and humid weather.
7) Smells after a days use, washing necessary.

I get pleasure from wearing diapers, which is why I am here, and I do wear on occasion. I do need something when out and about, because I have a bladder/prostate condition. I usually use an external catheter for this. Not such fun either, but I find it less hassle. You might consider.

If I could find a solution for my medical problem, I would be a happy(er) guy.
