Well...It would be good so you don't have to convert if you travel there...But I don't think the countries would adopt it anytime soon...

The problem is with this is the US would dominate any union. Unlike the EU, where no one nation has a monopoly of power, any proposed North American Union would essentially be an extension of the US.

I can see something like this happening. Definately not today, but maybe in 20-30 years.

Ehhh, I don't really see a need too, plus I don't really like the sound of calling them 'Ameros'

There's no reason. In Europe, the countries are so close together that it was inconvenient to travel even short distances. because you had to exchange currency. However, America, Mexico and Canada are huge and there isn't much traffic going between them.

No way... it will never happen.

The US Dollar is the "gold standard" of currency and trade throughout the entire world. The flow of the global economy is closely based on the value of the dollar. Just look at the mess we are in now.

I don't want the value of my currency tied to events in Canada... and I can never imagine sharing currency with a second-world nation like Mexico.

But hey... if we did have it, all the illegals would be able to send their tax-free income home without paying those steep exchange fees at the bank. :D

The amero conspiracy - The Boston Globe
AMERO DOESN'T MAKE $ OR CENTS - New York Post
Proposed AMERO design
The reverse and obverse sides with what I assume is liberty holding a torch and on the obverse side an eagle holding olive branches signifying peace.

I am an avid coin collecter and honestly after reading these articles and websites it doesnt make much CENTS(LOL) to me. Why we would want or have really any use for an AMERO. Also the whole idea of the AMERO is discredited by the fact that every other conspiracy website has "The AMERO Conspiracy" on it and congress has never once mentioned it or the idea of it. I think it would be something "Dale Gribble" from "King Of The Hill" would beleive. All in all I highly doubt that this will happen in unless something terrible happens to the economic system of our our country, in lay mans terms it would have to be like a great depression x4.

FUN FACT
Did you know that during WWII the US had to cut down on its copper use so it could supply its war machine with copper, so what they did was instead of minting copper pennies in 1943 they used steel. The end result is pretty cool, in my opinion better than todays pennies.

Coin collecting FTW

I'll bet you a few of your worthless dollars :)tongueout :) that your currency won't remain the "gold standard" of currency throughout the world for much longer. It's used mostly by tradition, but eventually, people will realize that there are other currencies too which are of equal or greater value and stability.

There's no reason. In Europe, the countries are so close together that it was inconvenient to travel even short distances. because you had to exchange currency. However, America, Mexico and Canada are huge and there isn't much traffic going between them.
THe Euro doesn't exist for making traveling easier - it exists for making trade easier. Consequently, you should share a common currencies with those countries you do most of your international trade with. Ironically, for that's France (which does have the Euro), the UK (which still retains their pound for now), and the U.S. (with their worthless dollars).

Steel tends to deteriorate faster than copper or other materials. Just look at old abandoned steel buildings or railroad bridges. Plus the U.S. steel pennies in my collection look rather...horrible!

I pray to god that doesn't happen since Canada, the USA and Mexico are still very different from each other. Not to mention we are all large as ^*$# in terms of landmass. Europe is made of tons of small little countries that are different from each other but they are so close to each other it made perfect sense to adopt a single unified money system. The US just doesn't need that.

Anyways that's my view on the situation.

Ameros...

I wonder when the UK will join the Euro...
Fun fact:
The reason (or at least, one important reason) that the UK doesn't use the Euro is because of Rupert Murdock. He has a lot of business here and changing the currency was always to to leave people slightly worse off, so he made a deal with Tony Blair... if Murdock changed the political stance of his newspaper to Labour (to help Blair get elected) then Blair would keep the Pound.

Just so I can pretend that this post is relevant to Ameros... I bet something similar would happen in the US to help oppose the change.

"We couldn't even deal with Marathons becoming Snickers, so how the hell would we deal with a currency change?"

Anyway, if this is just a conspiracy theory... it's hardly worth discussing.

I don't see this working... Patriotism would get into the way.

Americans are having a hard enough time converting to metric, let's not give them the added worry of losing their national currency. Keep in mind, US currency almost a universal symbol of money in the developed world. The Greenback is easily recognisable and I'm betting the US aren't too keen on giving that up.

Well I have found all the proof I need.

From the Boston Globe article.
Republican presidential candidate and Texas congressman Ron Paul has made the North American Union one of his central issues.
This is just some weird conspiracy theory.

With the circulation of the USD versus the CDN doller and the peso, the Amero would just be a renaming of the USD. Thus, it is rather pointless, and additionally of no benefit to Canada or Mexico. Our currencies have no issues right now.

Isn't going to happen. The U.S. is a greedy natoin our money goes above everyones for a long peroid of time. Yes this would help decrease the chance of a deppressoin but also make people in the us not higer than everyone else. The erou works because the coutrys are close a natoinalized amero would only be for 3 countrys witch are huge. Also we have a better chance of a world currency happening than this. oh and we also are to caught up with being diffrent from everyone.

Well, times like this, I'm glad I watched the Zeigiest. Granted, it was more to humor my brother, but a lot of factual conspiracy.

If this is whole system won't work, how come it worked so well over in Europe? Last I checked, they were all different, but came down under on money system (excluding Great Britain, I don't keep up with their currency.)

As for us being a greedy country, what would it have to do with currency? And our higher ups are as corrupt as it gets. It's called the Federal Bank. They hand out money that is already on interest. So while we take money, it has interest on it. If anyone is greedy, it is the bank that supplies our money. How much easier would it be if it was just one money system to handle instead of 2-3 that have different values?

I'm just blowin my opinions out my mouth now, but might as well get in the conversation.
