If you are going to buy any baby diapers, then why not buy some Pampers? I just saw a commercial saying that if you buy a pack of Pampers, they will give 1 vaccine to a pregnant mom for tetanus, so you can save her and her baby ...So why not buy Pampers instead of some other brand? UNICEF is running it, so you know it's for a good cause, you can read more here: Vaccines for Pregnant Women Provided by Pampers® and UNICEF

If you're wondering "Why would I buy Pamper's to begin with?" Well I'll answer that by saying you can use them as stuffers, or just buy them just to save a kid...

Thats a LIE. If you pause the ad like I have to read the small print they will donate 0.05 cents to go towards a vaccine. Thats what the TV ad says at least. Not worth it at all I say.

Upon reading the sites small print on the bottom you can see clear as day they will only give 0.05 cents of a US dollar. Now how is that a full vaccine? Really people should be boycotting Pampers and its parent company which also includes the Luvs company as well. They say one thing and they do another even though they make millions of dollars each year.

Also if your going to say well I am still helping out. Well I beg you to tell me how 5 cents of about 8-14 bucks is making a big impact? I know if you total all the 5 cents up it might be in the thousands already but your better off buying a pack of depends and giving 2-3 bucks to UNICEF. I am sorry for being the downer but I hate it to no end when major companies lie about something as big as this.

Way to ruin this...Even if it's $.05 (5 cents) for every pack, they are going for a goal of 45mil VACCINES donated...And according to the thermometer thing, they have donated over 25mil...Even if each is 5 cents, 45mil x .05 is $2,250,000...Which can easily buy a lot of vaccines...So just because it doesn't seem like a lot, you can still help people

I just bought 5 cases because they were on sale. I will have to go check if Canadians are in on this too.... or if it started yesterday.

Umm like I said you could go out and buy a package of depends and give 2-3 bucks to UNICEF. Giving 3 dollars to them will be like buying 6000 packs of these pampers and if those cost say 8 dollars those 6000 packs will cost you 48,000 dollars and only 3 dollars of that will go to UNICEF.

So is it more helpful to give them 3 dollars or to buy a pack of pampers which most of us can't even use properly and have P&G give 5 cents of that to UNICEF?

As for the whole "thats 5 more cents anyone else in the damn world is giving" well WE as in all of us did not even care until we say this pampers tv spot. And If you did care before that then I think you would be pissed off at a large mullti-nation company as large as P&G only giving away 0.05 cents of a US dollar for every package of diapers they sell.

Again I am not trying to bring anyone down if you want to help out thats totally awesome. But I am saying that you can give 1 dollar or more to UNICEF directly and it will have a MUCH larger impact then 5 cents would.

If you didn't need them, then I would suggest you don't buy the Pampers and donate the money directly to UNICEF, as that would have the most impact. While yes, this is a promotion, a small amount of money is being donated, and with the amount of diapers that are bought anyway, this will have some kind of impact. It's sort of like voting. One voice doesn't really have an impact (as much as the government would like to tell you otherwise), but several million make quite a difference.

Of course, if you don't have any money to spare but do have some extra time on your hands, you could check out http://www.freerice.com. That's free, and for every word you get the synonym for correctly, the site donates 20 grains of rice through the United Nations. There's also an FAQ and some neat statistics as well.

Yes, but if you donate directly to UNICEF, then you don't know exactly what they will use it for, for this, it's going directly for vaccines for tetanus

You bought 5 cases of pampers? Do they actually fit you or something?

If anyone does care to donate directly to UNICEF and know that it's going for vaccines, follow this link and scroll to the bottom of the screen to the "Donate Now" button with the explantory "to join Pampers in supporting UNICEF's tetanus immunization programs."

Agreed. You should always do your homework before buying something just because it claims it helps a good cause. A lot of the pink ribbon (breast cancer) offers are not as good as they might seem, for example. I'm not going to buy Pampers because they don't fit me and probably most of the other post-puberty people on adisc, and I can give a more meaningful donation directly to UNICEF if I choose. Now, if I were a parent choosing between Pampers and Huggies for my child, this might have some impact.

That is the general idea. Considering the average infant uses between 5 and 8 diapers per day... that could be a lot of money.

Little sister, far from fitting me, and besides that she's only a size 3, lol.

But I think the whole point of donating the 5 cents is because Pampers is something that people would buy ANYWAYS. I actually think it's pretty great that they are donating that.

I think your math is off a bit...(rather a LOT actually)...5cents/pack or 3 dollars....you'd have to buy 60 packages of Pampers, NOT 60,000!!!! to donate 3 dollars to UNICEF.

That's only about 2/3 the number of packages the parents of a newborn would buy in a year (roughly 90-100 packs). So a parent buying a year's supply of 'specially marked' Pampers would be donating about $4.50 to Unicef (the vaccine is inexpensive, that's right it's only 5cents/vaccine)!

So although the average family is only going to use about 7.5 packs per month or 38 packages between 1 April and 31 August...that's enough vaccines for 38 pregnant women in the developing world.

With approximately 350,000 babies born each year in Canada and about 4.1million babies in the USA...that's 8,462,600 dollars (at 5cents per pack) if all the babies wore Pampers for 5 months! That's 169,252,000 vaccines!!!

It's not just the diaper products either, it's also for Swipers™, and Clean n' Go® wipes, too! And they're only aiming for 45million!

Ya know... if all those pregnant women would stop stepping on those rusty nails they wouldn't need a tetnus shot. :p
