Thread: Greetings

    Default Greetings

Hey, everyone. Faelan here. It's been a long time coming for me, but I've finally plucked up the courage to create an account here and start this introduction.

I found ADISC quite a while ago, several years if memory serves. Back then I was still living with my parents, and being a techie sort of person have always been kind of terrified of leaving digital tracks (and of having to explain why I'd created an account here). But time marches on, and with being off at university (the eventual plan is to get a master's in computer science) and in my own place there's much less to worry about. I'm an AB/DL and a babyfur, which is what brings me here, and come to think of it I don't think I've ever actually said those words in that order. It's funny how we get so used to hiding things. If any of you are familiar with the Stages in Goffman's Dramaturgical Model you'll know what I'm talking about. That's in part why I'm here. I decided it was time to try and connect with people who share some of my interests and am looking forward to exploring some of the group forums.

That's not all there is too me of course. Personality wise I'm pretty much a geek. Give me electronics, puzzles, or anything science and math related and I couldn't be happier. I enjoy games and books of all varieties - particularly the sci-fi/fantasy niche. Outside of the geek culture, I really enjoy music and play both violin and viola. I'm also attempting to teach myself how to draw. Maybe once I do something with enough confidence it'll become my avatar.

There might not be much more to say, so I'll end with a general question and ask if there's any good ADISC groups/chats/hidden features I should know about. Oh, and a noob question. The editor here seems to be in the habit of breaking lines in the middle of whatever word happens to be on the far right, and it's driving me crazy. Is there a setting to turn it off?

And finally, merry Christmas to all that celebrate it. Hope you enjoy the holidays and had Santa bring you something fun. To everyone who doesn't, best wishes anyway for the winter season (granted, I say that as it's currently above 70F in my area).

Hello and welcome. If you like fantasy books, do you like Harry Potter? I just read all seven books and saw all eight movies this year.

I do! I loved the books and thought the movies were all at least decent. I'm kind of ambivalent about play she's producing though. It will be hard to deliver in such a different format after everyone already has their expectations up from the original series.

I didn't care for the Order of the Phoenix or Half-Blood Prince movies because of how much they deviated from the books. Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban were good; I've seen them twice. Fortunately ABC Family is showing the movies this weekend so I'm recording them on my DVR

Sweet. That reminds me, I've been meaning to rip my disks so I can put the movies on my tablet. Might have to do that now.

Default Merry Christmas to you too!

    Greetings!
    &
    Welcome!!

    FaelanGalanti!

Now that I've made all those pretties...

We're very glad that you decided to join us here at ADISC!
    Nice link to
Dramaturgy (sociology) - Erving Goffman too! (Thank you!)

Since you've kind-of been around for a while, there's probably not a lot to introduce you to now... However,

Quite a nice list of 'forte' too!
    • electronics
    • puzzles
    • science
    • math
    • games
    • books (sci-fi/fantasy niche)
    • geek culture
    • music
    • plays both violin and viola
    • drawing (on it's way!)
    • computer science (techie)
    • AB/DL and a babyfur

I don't think that you'll have any problems finding people to connect with and, who share many of your interests or, finding some of the groups & forums to interest you too!

Your Q: Are there any good ADISC groups/chats/hidden features I should know about?
    A: Quite likely! (Yes)
*** YOU MAY HAVE TO BE " Leveled Up" to access some of these features***

There is a drop-down menu titled "ADISC Intro, Rules & Tips" at near the top & center of the page... which should help give you a better understanding of what we tend to be about... and, perhaps will assist you in becoming better orientated as well.
    - Groups -

You are currently not a member of a social group.
    See what you are missing

Oh, and a noob question. The editor here seems to be in the habit of breaking lines in the middle of whatever word happens to be on the far right, and it's driving me crazy. Is there a setting to turn it off?
I won't pretend to be well versed in this issue... However, I think that may be simply the line-break appearance, in the editor... though, you may find, while in Advanced mode and then preview... that there may be no issue, after all... Failing that, please post a thread in the...

    Administrative Stuff
A forum for discussing how to make ADISC better. This is also where members vote on polls about proposed changes to the site.
So that your issue can be properly addressed and, quite likely resolved too ^_^

Thank you again, for your great introduction!

Wow, thanks, Marka. That's quite a response, probably the best welcome to a site I've had yet, and it has a lot of useful info in it! Thanks for your help and the warm welcome.

Level up you say? Challenge accepted.

It is! Ancient Irish in particular. Faelan is the anglicized version of Faolain, essentially meaning "Little Wolf." Galanti doesn't actually mean anything that I know of, but I liked the sound and have stuck with it.

    Actually, let me google that...

And google says that Galanti is a derivation of Galante, which is a Chivalrous or courteous person. Whoops. Looks like I accidentally made up an actual word.

Hmm. So my last post got marked as needing approval from a mod. I think maybe I overdid it on the reference links. As an engineering student it's kind of an ingrained habit. Make a claim? Provide a citation!

Anyway, until my post gets approved: Yes! Faelan is an anglicized form of Faolain, which means "Little Wolf."
